  1. Great article. I'd add a really significant comment here, but Seth covered all the important points you didn't bring up.
  2. Guess I took too long to hit POST. Thank you John.
  3. Interesting. However, I have no idea what his defensive skills are. From what little I have found he appears to be average. Does anyone have more insightful data on him?
  4. I agree completely. It would have been short sighted to trade away future assets to make the playoffs this year. I'll certainly be pleased if they make it, but this team is poised for the future. I am really excited about watching this team for the next several years. And we still need a killer ace in the rotation.
  5. In high school I played against a catcher from Chaska, MN named Brad Gulden. Next thing I ever heard about him after high school was when I read that he was catching for the Yankees.
  6. I'm always curious when people point out that Berrios is only 6'0" tall. That is the same height as Johan Santana. He did pretty well for the Twins. If anyone is suggesting that Santana is unique, Bob Gibson was listed as 6'1" in a day when exaggerating was probably more prevalent than it is now. (and no, I did not go look up 20 old pitchers - I simply looked up Gibson because I always kinda liked him when I was young)
  7. The game score after the thread was created was Twins 8, Tiggies 6.
  8. I suspect the Cardinals were up to their evil tricks. The fun part is that the Twins over that 4 game spread scored an average of 2.125 runs per game while the Cards managed a measly 2 runs per game. I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't such cheaters.
  9. When Jack Morris pitched 10 innings of shutout baseball to win a World Series game in 1991 he was the first pitcher to throw a 10 inning shutout in the World Series since Babe Ruth. Ruth had no equal in the game as far as a hitter. No question in my mind.
  10. Mutter, mutter, mutter... Maybe so.... but it still makes me nervous. I should mention too that I am not as concerned about his 3B play as some seem to be. I suspect he is an adequate fielder. Not as good as Plouffe, maybe, but adequate.
  11. Since Sano was 16 years old he has never, ever played first base or outfield for the Twins at any level. The idea of putting him there in MLB is a disaster waiting to happen That said, it would not actually shock me if they tried to hide him in right field. Sano at first base in a major league baseball game should be enough to get the manager fired immediately. And some of you who keep suggesting it.... I'm keeping an eye on you.
  12. A fun article with a wise message: Patience.
  13. Um, well, I am definitely going to watch the game!
  14. According to that graph the ump made very few bad calls. The ones he missed were inside pitches. If the red triangles are KC pitcher strikes (as the it says they are) I have a hard time finding Torri's pitch. According to the graph the ump only called one outside pitch a strike all night. It was to a right handed hitter and that was from a Minnesota pitcher. Something's amiss.
  15. In over 400 PA last year Danny Santana was awesome. Yes, part of that was an unusually high BABIP. Send him to AAA. Bruno had a huge impact on the kid last year. Santana put up an OPS he had never touched in his career. It may be that there is something Bruno can give this young man that just works. I'd at least give it a shot. Send him down with some genuine optimism about what may come of that.
  16. Hey! Nobody mentioned that Pelf is hitting 1.000! He's tied for the lead in MLB (probably with some other AL pitcher). Sure you can call it a small sample size, but remember, he's had not one at bat, but TWO!
  17. Count me as another who is surprised and delighted at the Pelfrey/Nolasco magic show. I thought I would be resigned all season every time these guys got a turn in the rotation. I know it's early, but I really have confidence in this team (no post-season predictions at this point). Nolasco still worries me aplenty, but I'm gaining confidence in both just the same. Have a starting rotation that is pretty damn good makes a world of difference. Just feeling a little sorry for Tommy Milone.
  18. I should think it would be enough. Hamels has like $72.5 million guaranteed for 2016-2018 (including buyout). The salary relief for the Phillies should play into it significantly.
  19. To be fair, he has the 2nd highest OBP on the team among qualifers. (second to Trevor) (no, not May)
  20. Sure! Why not? Wait. Is this a Twins Rally Monkey?
  21. I know USAFChief said it, but I mean it. Trade Sano. The scale is the only place Sano will ever compare to Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera has a career .321/.398/.565 (.963) slash line. Sano will never be that. That's OK. Very, very few will ever be that in MLB. The insistence that Sano will be some incredible monster is, well, optimistic. Yes, it can happen. Is it a certainty? Absolutely not. If the Twins were offered an awesome SP for Sano (much >Hamels) I would not be shocked to see them pull the trigger. At age 21 Arcia hit .328/.398/.557 (.955) in AA. At age 22 Sano is hitting .248/.348/.503 (.851) in AA. The kid may grow to be awesome, but let's not anoint the new King too soon. * let the flaming begin
  22. That jokin is always living on the edge! I am anxious to see Buxton pick up the pace. Sano is going to be an all or nothing type of guy to some extent. Buxton, we had all hoped, was going to be a pseudo Puckett.
