  1. Thanks so much, Seth. Love these weekly reports. Are you serious, this kid struck out 11 batters in five innings? With their bullpen problems, why hasn't he been called up to help the Twins? [trust you know that is said with tongue in cheek] The highlight of this report to me was the hitting of Sabato and Urbina. Was this Sabato's best week as a professional? And after a slower than slow start, exciting to see Urbina begin to whack the ball around a bit. Also good seeing Cossetti hitting like we expect after a couple rough weeks following his move up to Hi-A.
  2. Is our #49 pick our second round pick? Will it be our second pick in the draft? Is Witt related to the K.C. shortstop? I doubt it will be with our first pick, but really want the Twins to get a catcher high in this draft, a catcher that can help with their #1 need hopefully within a few years.
  3. Agreed, Cody. But wouldn't it be wonderful to give Solano most of his at bats as the DH?
  4. I noticed that also Chris. And it didn't make sense because Rocco seems to pinch hit for any lefty bat when a lefty reliever comes in. Was wondering if Lewis isn't 100%? He did have one heck of a collision at first base, what was it a week or so ago? But agreed, Lewis at third and Farmer at second would have made a ton of sense yesterday.
  5. The following comment will probably be jumped on by many of you, but I 100% agree with dxp's comment. Looked at Atlanta's box score this morning. Down 5-0 in the second inning, Eddie hit a 3 run home run to get them back in the game. His two run blast later in the game, put it away. Eddie has 37 RBI and 13 home runs. That is after missing the start of the season with an injury. After a slow start, his average is up to .265 and his home runs and RBI are more than any Twin. I said it when they didn't resign him that they were cutting the heart and soul out of this team. Look at who has been playing in left field since? Meanwhile he was the Series MVP, wasn't he? And I doubt he would cost more than the $11M our current left fielder is making. Yesterday, our left fielder was 0-4 for 4 K's. Eddie was 3-4 with a walk, 2 home runs and 6 RBI and NO strikeouts. Eddie, Eddie, Eddie! (edit. after reading my own comment, I had a tear in my eye. Damn, I miss this guy)
  6. Couple of thoughts, or questions. 100% agree with RV above about taking AK out earlier in the game. Also expected Buxton to go into center field. Should they have tied it, their pitcher would have been batting. If Buxton’s knee is so bad he can’t play an inning in center, he belongs on the IL. Does the front office have the balls to make the moves many of you are calling for? I doubt it.
  7. The most interesting thought about Larnach, Wallner, Miranda and Celestino is how the FO is going to manage this situation between next month and spring training. The Twins certainly have a few needs, like the bullpen. And they obviously are stacked at a few positions with talented prospects blocked. In addition to positioning themselves so they don't lose any good prospects to the Rule 5 draft, the Twins FO needs to include one or more of these guys in a trade. I see this coming trade deadline as the Twins not being buyers, or sellers. Rather I see them working on improving their team thru several interesting moves. One of the first decisions they need to make are what to do with Keps and Polo regarding their contracts. If they aren't going to exercise their options, will either or both be moved next month? May be a much different Twins team come August 1.
  8. Great article, Cody. Thanks. Crossing my fingers he can be our next college guy to make it to the Twins starting rotation. Hopefully, by next summer.
  9. Thanks for bringing us this update, Seth. Did you think Maeda's start was disappointing? Not bad, but not what I would hope for as a last start before rejoining the Twins. It is also disappointing looking at that Saints box score. They are loaded with Celestino, Larnach, Miranda and Wallner. Yet, really expected that at least one or two of this group would be hitting well at Target Field. Glad to see that Reggie Grace put up zeros in another appearance. The Twins sure as heck need some help in the pen, unfortunately, he can't get here this year. Can he? Took a look at the FCL box score. Holy Cow, there are five guys hitting well over .300. Yes, it is early, but this is the same group that blew up the DSL last year. Also see that after another slow start when he was hitting 0.0 something, Acuna seems to be getting a couple hits every day. If he continues like last year, he will also be over .300 in a couple weeks. Great gene pool, could the Twins be so fortunate to have this kid be anything like his big bro? Got a good smile, Seth, from your 'Manfred Man' comment. Wasn't that a song back whenever? Or maybe a group? Or is my mind playing tricks on me?
  10. Your comment 'power hitting first baseman' sure brought me some memories. Remember back when the Braves had Joe Adcock and the Reds had Ted Kluzewski. If memory serves, Kluzewski's forearms were bigger than most people's legs. And recall listening to the Braves on the radio the day Adcock hit his four home runs together with a double they said hit a couple feet from the top of the outfield wall or he would have had 5 in one day. Thanks for the memories.
  11. I see that MacLeod was a 5th round pick in 2021. See he pitched only an inning that year and not at all in 2022. Assume he had surgery and was out for the year, plus. Is that correct? Was he a good prospect who slipped in the draft because of injury concerns? Is he another pitcher we should be high on that the Twins were lucky to get in the 5th round? Is he similar to the Prielipp pick last year? Love that he throws with his left arm, Twins seem to have too few lefties in the organization.
  12. Very interesting read, thanks. I don't understand Keps not qualifying in right field. I know he was on the IL for a bit, but he seems to be out there most of the time. Are my eyes watching games deceiving me? Don't understand Correa being negative. I have seen most of the games on tv and he looks awfully good with an unbelievable arm.
  13. I believe the Twins have only two catchers on the 40-man right now. They have dodged the bullet with neither of their two guys getting injured. Expect Wolters will be added and called up should someone get hurt. But longer term, is either Williams or Camargo good enough to be that third man, say next year? I took note that you referred to Williams as a first baseman. Is that because he was playing first yesterday? Or do you not view him as an option behind the plate? Have been noticing that Brooks Lee has been hitting a lot of doubles. Isn't setting the world on fire with his average, but considering he was finishing his college career a year ago a mid-.260's average at AA may be good. Also elated that ERod has been hitting very, very well the last month or so.
  14. Saw Larnach was optioned to St Paul after the game.. Assume that means Buxton will be back tomorrow. Does anyone know the details of the trade with the Brewers? Twins got an A+ ball pitcher. Who is he and wha t did they give up?
  15. I kind of like the Twins right now. Seems Solano has had a lot of clutch hits the last week(s). And Michael A. Taylor has been a heck of a part of the team. Plays very good center, steals a bunch of bases and is hitting what, .240 with 9 or 10 bangers. That is a solid player. Throw in what Castro adds and you have a nice team. I imagine when Polo is back, Julien goes down to keep playing. But he has shown me he belongs at Target Field. Now the problem comes when Buxton is healthy. What will that move be. So I don't mind Miranda spending all of this year back at St. Paul. But Miranda has to put his name back into the mix for '24 and beyond by hitting like he did in the minors in 2021. Give the Twins a reason to expect him to demand a spot on this roster. Is also important that he spend as much time at first as third in St. Paul so he can become at least adequate at both positions.
  16. Agree on the rental reliever, Mike. But sure would be nice to add one of these being discussed today with a bit more valuable piece to bring back a good young reliever or starter.
  17. Will agree with those above that ERod is almost a lock to be added. With what I have seen from Enlow this year, I expect him to be added in November, if not later this summer. Will also agree with many above that I hope the Twins use this trading deadline to fine tune the 40-man and those at risk of being lost in the Rule 5. Hopefully we see several of the players talked about above included as a second or third part of a deal or two next month.
  18. Will second MikeLinks comment and questions about Williams D. Is he competent enough as a catcher to earn a spot as backup catcher/first base with the Twins? Sure like his bat. Will also second the above comments about Rosario. Sure seems to be settling in as the hitter we all thought he would be when drafted. Interesting seeing Owen Miller in the middle of the Brewer's lineup last night. Am I correct in remembering that coming out of high school Noah was considered the better Miller prospect? If so, he still has a few years for his bat to catch up to his sterling defense. Also thrilled with how Reggie Grace moves up a level and just keeps putting up zeros on the scoreboard. Would be fantastic if he could become another solid late inning guy for the Twins by say, mid 2024.
  19. Cedar Rapids is quietly having a very nice season. After a very slow start, ERod has been on fire the past couple weeks. Speaking of slow starters, Acuna had a terrible first month in the DSL last year, yet, I believe ended up as one of the top hitters on the team. Great having Prielipp back on the hill. Is there any news related to when/if Canterino will be back this year?
  20. Great seeing Prielipp back on the hill. Much like Enlow last summer, I don’t care about the results. Just want to see him pitching every fifth day. Looking at these rosters, I am seeing a number of kids from Mexico. If memory serves the Twins had almost no Mexicans on their rosters in the past. Is this a change in their scouting philosophy? After an ugly first month, plus, ERod is having a good June.
  21. Was at my son's Legion banquet 20 some years ago. The guest speaker was an old time pitcher. During the following Q&A, some young player asked how hard he threw. His response brought a follow up question about how he could get hitters out throwing in the high 80's. His response essentially was that velocity didn't mean much if you are able to throw all your pitches exactly where you wanted them. There weren't any follow up questions as his response was clear he wasn't happy with the accusation. And this old timer was fairly successful, considering he has more major league wins than any lefty to ever play the game.
  22. Interesting question, Seth. Dobber is in AAA and played Independent ball in the Detroit area. But he went to a small college in West Virginia, didn’t he? So I don’t have a clue. Love that FCL lineup. By the way the FCL box score is from June 5. Saw the Saints drew 7,000 last night. How does that compare to when they were an Independent?
  23. Are you serious? Then I know where young Pohlad can save a bunch of money. Fire Rocco and find a AI to run the team.
  24. Fortunately, took the granddaughter out to dinner and only saw the last few innings. Understand I missed a heck of a nice pitching performance. Have been huge fan of Kepler, yet even I understand it is time to move on. In his defense, it seems he has the worst luck of any hitter at having the umps call clear balls strikes. I understand you can’t DFA the entire team. Also don’t think that is necessary. But a good start would be starting at the top with Rocco. When I checked the lineup before leaving for dinner I didn’t understand what he was doing. AK is a very good first baseman. Solano is not. So why in the world would anyone have Solano at first and AK at DH? It is true that Garlick hit a couple home runs against lefties. But he isn’t the hitter he was last year and really should be in St Paul. AK has the potential to be a great hitter for the next decade. Why would anyone pinch hit a guy who shouldn’t be here for your future star. I suppose some computer told him to do it. And that is one of the reasons he should be gone, extension or not.
