  1. Do not think of him as a center fielder, but Twins should give him a real chance to win a starting job out of spring training. Would rather do that than sign a FA outfielder just to play and block all the youngsters coming up. If it does not all work out, you have the same option to sign an outfielder next winter.
  2. Until he plays here or at AAA against the better pitchers, we will not be able to tell. Hope he can make it out of spring training, but expect him to be sent to Rochester.
  3. Would be putting Escobar at 2nd, Santana at short and Nunez as the backup until Sano arrives. Could be another player rather than Nunez, but this would improve both the offense and the Defense until Buxton arrives in 2016. Doubt the Dodgers would eat a large amount of Kemp's salary, but some is possible. Remember 3 years ago Kemp was the 8th ranked player in baseball and he is either about 30 or under 30 at this time.
  4. Not interested unless the price really drops or several option years are included in the make good. Not that many good seasons and will only block pitchers the Twins need to find out about this year(May, Meyer, Berrios, Milone, Plefrey). Some of the above may not be here, but Twins already have 3 filled spots(Hughes, Nolasco, Gibson).
  5. Would like this to happen depending on price. Much better upside than many of the other names being suggested for the Twins.
  6. Expect the Twins will move a number of names off the 40 man and add more by Thursday, Expect they will add Gilmarten, they should add Wimmers. Goodrum and Michaels are much more troubling, but do not think they will lose them if not added. Michael could be a reach by a team without a lot of talent in the upper reaches of there system. Goodrum is just too far away.
  7. Money was not the big deal here, opening a spot in a better position and solving the outfield issue in one shot. Dozier will be expensive in 2-3 years and you will get less for him. Meant to have Santana as the shortstop and Nunez and the backup until Sano arrives. Blocking pitchers with #3 - 5 starters just makes no sense at this time.
  8. Do not need either Masterson or Rasmus. Masterson just blocks pitchers the Twins need to have here and Rasmus to a lessor degree blocks outfielders. Would rather see a Dozier for Matt Kemp trade and give Escobar the second base job with Santana the backup until Sano arrives after which Plouffe would be the backup or traded this year. Would like to see Burdi in the bullpen and a lefty reliever signed in the offseason. Do not need 2-3 long men so guess one of the losers in starting rotation jobs will be cut.
  9. I am fine with Hicks/Shaffer until other options arrive, there is not a free agent outfielder that would interest me.
  10. I would like to see Dozier continue to do better. That being said would consider him the most tradable Twin that could bring back a high return(starting pitchers who are major league ready)(or an outfielder that would help). Neither of these may be necessary if some of the Twins prospects come through. I see Dozier as more of a Brandon Phillips type(Brandon is the poster child for Cincinnati's budget crunch). I believe Brian Dozier is what we can see a very good fielding secondbaseman who hits for some power and draws some walks, but will never be a .275 hitter. Hope I am wrong.
  11. As a 4th outfielder should be fine. Maybe he improves to the surprise of us all.
  12. Like most of the names on this list. Would be worth a look for the right price. Can never have enough starting pitching. Would not mind more than one. No Masterson, but the rest might be worth a look.
  13. Hope it works out well. Fans will have to be patient as do not see a big improvement coming this year.
  14. I agree you cannot buy an ace. You have to develop them and the Twins need to find out in the next two years which of their young pitchers are or could be one. Pitching coach will have to know how to help the young pitchers as his will be the most important job on this team.
  15. Depends on who Molitor has for coaches. That will be more important than his being named manager
  16. Getting a player doing well his bonus money is good for the organization. Also we were playing contenders most of September and the contending clubs deserve to have the non contenders give there best. Great article, shows there is hope for the future at this position.
  17. Very good group of players. May need to package or move some talent from here for front line pitching. Great article. Looking forward to see what Michael, Polanco, Gordon and Goodrum do next year
  18. like the review, feel much the same way you do. Feel the Duensing should be traded as would hate to see him give away for nothing. Fien will be back, hopefully in more of a seventh inning role. Bullpen needs a makeover and the young pitchers(Burdi, Reed, and others need to be given their chances.
  19. This year should be about finding out what the Twins have. Spending money just to spend is silly. Adding a couple of high risk , high reward, low pay players should be part of the plan. We should have the money to spend for some mid tier players, just by not offering contracts or arbitration to a few marginal pitchers. We shall see after the team meetings what will happen
  20. I hope they keep Bruno with the new manager. He seemed to be making headway with the young hitters. I see the net is wider this time, maybe that will help.
  21. Ryan had to fix the mess Smith left. Bill Smith's request was to spend more money to fix the problem he created. It is easy to spend someone else's money. 1. Even if you offer the money the players have to take it and they have choices, getting a top starting pitcher is no sure thing. 2. We do not know what is asked for in trade, if you read some other east coast boards, 2-3 of their 5-10 prospects should be able to spring a top player to them, this is just not true. 3. You have to sign good FA's to complement the minor league system, this was Kansas City's big issue over the last 30 years, good minor league system, but the holes where not addressed with FA signings. 4. The judgment on Terry Ryan's second term will come in how fast the Twins can turn this around and I am guessing next year will be only slightly better, but we should start seeing the progress( more like 1999-2000) than the past few year. 5. You can never have too much pitching, Anderson should have been gone a few years ago, that Pittsburg is fixing some of the Twins pitching that could not be fixed here was an embarrassment. 6. Will see how this offseason goes, Ryan has done a good job of fixing the base(Escobar, Santana, Shaffer, Vargas, Arica, May, Hughes). Outside of possibly Santana and Hughes this now looks like the bottom end of a good major league club. What is filled in above it will determine the final result.
  22. would rather trade for a pitcher or an outfielder rather than buy one, both Cinni and LAD are clubs that we could trade with. Not saying there could not be others.
  23. Rays and Reds seem to be the 2 clubs, along with the Dodgers who can develop pitching. Twins seem to be worse than most. Some of this has been signability in the 1990's when big market clubs and agents could game the system. Under the new CBA most of that has changed and will see how many of the 7 - 10 decent starters the Twins now have in their system will make it. My best guess is 2-3.
  24. In my mind Michael and Melotakis are too low. It will be interesting to see who is ranked above them. One is a pitcher that will be here either next year or 2016 and one is a prospect to could replace Brian Dozier when traded.
