  1. True, but you can't fire 25 players. Not Paul's fault totally but usually the manager takes the fall for this much underperformance. Another week of losing might be the end for Paul. Look up, he can't be enjoying this.
  2. We will find out in the next years. If all of the position players he has drafted turn out to be AAAA types, then the whole philosophy must change. Sano and Kepler do not count as they were signings and look to be the best of the bunch. If Buxton does not turn out they you are valid to ask why he was the only one of the top 5 to fail.
  3. Nice article. I do feel you have to move on from Molitor. Dougie will catch the attention of those who have dealt with him and will hold players accountable. If we assume this year is lost, then how the rest of the year is handled will make a big difference on Ryan status. At this time we need to move on from the vets(we still have over 3 months to do this and see what the youngsters can do, this is a setback, but unless we assume that the Twins talent evaluation is totally bogus, the end of year should bring some clarity of what we have in the minors.
  4. Right now hitting is the issue, not pitching. Give it a month, until a couple of contenders feel the need to find another starting pitcher and then do your trades. Forcing this will get you nothing. Hopefully this will be done by midsummer.
  5. I expect Polanco to be the defensive replacement to Nunez at third. Nunez will start now because he is hitting well, but is more of a 2 - 4 days a week role player. I expect Polanco to play 5 days a week, because if he does well, it gives the Twins many more options(including trading Dozier if the right offer comes along). I guess it may be 50 - 50 if he sticks this time and maybe forces TR to make a trade. I also expect that Rosario may head to Rochester for a month or two if he does not start hitting and maybe Kepler gets his chance
  6. Saw a game against that club, they were very dead even in wareups. Have not seen this from the Twins yet.
  7. From what I have heard, Tonkin has a straight fastball, if you look at the sucessful relievers, all of their pitches have movement, most of it late. Not worried, case closed.
  8. It also shows that what signing international players can do. Many of the top systems went heavy above cap in international signings. This hopefully will be addressed in the next CBA.
  9. Baseball has changed over the past 5 years, getting ahead and doing everything possible to get ahead is very important. Most of the clubs now have close to shut down relief pitching from the 7th inning in, if not the 6th. Looking through the box scores there were about 2 runs scored against the team ahead(not counting the Phillies) from the 6th inning in. (This is against bullpen pitchers). So I do not see bunting early to get a run or two to be such a bad thing. Starting pitching is still the weak spot of all this and getting ahead early is the easy way to win.
  10. It appears that some did not notice the 3rd Base market, as Todd Frazier(who is a much better option than Plouffe), brought more salary relief than market value. Trade market for Plouffe looked to be salary relief or 2 lottery tickets. Winning the Park lottery was not expected, but you can never have too much talent in your organization. It will sort out this week(by an unexpected trade) or by the trade deadline.
  11. It would be great if Kepler tore up the International league. Twins could then trade Rosario or Arcia and maybe Stewart and another piece to the Padres for Tyler Ross. That would be a wonderful use of Twins new found depth. We do not want Kepler to stay down too long if he is raking.
  12. Dan Runzler, he has stuff and has been good before, also he is another lefty. Give up on Tonkin, he will never make it.
  13. I actually am hoping Dan Runzler makes it, he has stuff and with Abad will handle the left handed chores just fine. Saw the other day that Perkins FB was up a little(I think I saw 93). Some pitchers just take spring training to get up to speed. I think the Twins are waiting until very late to try and sneak Tonkin through waivers(He should be toast). Need to promote the better players and majors leaguers can hit a 96 straight fastball.
  14. Sano will be the next 1B. Kepler will be an outfielder
  15. Sano will be the next 1B. Kepler will be an outfielder
  16. They may well cut Nolasco, I just think it will be closer to two weeks from now, Tonkin could be anytime now.
  17. Dean would be my first choice. Tonkin will take longer and doubt Strong should be on it
  18. Kepler will have to hit a lot to make the team. If Santana does not hit, do not see him making the team. Be will be claimed and maybe that team will hope to get him though waivers later, old game by teams that like to stockpile players.
  19. Which is why I have been proclaiming Tonkin as an AAAA pitcher. Hope he does not make the club as it will be a sign that system has not changed. Would be nice to know what Park hit for the home run and what pitches did he strike out on the last time. I would expect he will have more issues with the better breaking balls in the majors vs Korea, but could be wrong.
  20. First outings of the spring do not mean much. Much more interested in 2 weeks when regulars start playing more and pitchers who have a chance of making the club pitch meaningful innings. If Nolasco is getting rocked around March 25, will really hope the Twins cut him, and most clubs will for veterans to give them a chance to catch on elsewhere. Keeping him because of his contact should not be an option as it was 3-4 years ago, when other options did not exist.
  21. I am still one of the few who would trade Dozier at some time. Polanco does not have the power, but will probably be just about as good. What could you get back, a very good bullpen piece or two, or a couple of very good prospects, that would fillin the pitching staff 3 years from now. Do not want it to happen this year, but would make sense this offseason.
  22. Feel this is a little high for Tyler. This year will do much to see how he justifies this ranking. Felt more comfortable with him in the 7 - 10 range. All this end will be much higher at the start of next year, because of the graduations that will probably happen this year.
  23. Couple of notes here. Players have to want to take your money to join the Twins, this was a hard sell when they were losing 90+ games a year. Twins TV contract is not good. Twins spending will be constrained until a new TV(and much better TV) contract is signed. Twins have the minor league talent that to keep all of the best of them could lead to close to $200 million a year. (In the 2020's). Plans have to be made for that time. Most of the Twins best players will still be in their 20's when their 6 years are up(if the new CBA does not cut that to 4-5 years). Money will need to be spent wisely(hindsight is 20/20) Lireano was offered more money to return here than Pittsburg, he did not want to come back(and I do not blame him). Some players will want to stay, some will not. Clubs that are winning have an easier time attracting top flight talent. Twins just need to get there. When Nolasco was signed it was said, he was the first to take the Twins offer, do not forget this.
  24. I think the Twins farm system rated lower than expected from some sources because of the 20-30 group, not these players and the fact that they have not signed a big number of international players. Hopefully that will change. These are better than many teams in this range if not almost all.
  25. I agree that Buxton will be given every chance to win the CF job. But it would be easier for the Twins if he started in AAA and Arcia got enough AB's to establish himself, fail and be cut, or traded for something useful. A few plate appearances a week is not going to establish that.
