  1. Major White Sox issue was fielding and the number of extra outs the opponents got(not so much from errors, but lack of range). Do not see big upgrade in this area, probably is better, but not to average or above. Also bullpen in front of Robertson, is not that good and may be worse that the Twins. Could be either side of 81-81 depending on bullpen and hittine. Starting pitching does win and Chicago has it.
  2. Stewart's floor to me is bust, AAAA starting pitcher, and possibly in 2-3 years a return to football. Berrios I agree with but think floor is more like mid-rotation starter a 3-4 type. Jay's floor will probably be a shutdown 8th inning reliever and high end would be like a #2 starter. Given what the Twins have in the pipeline, it is too early to peg Jay as a reliever. Starters are more valuable.
  3. Expect Buxton will start in AAA. Twins need to see where Arcia fits if he makes the club and he is too good for a part time backup if he can hit like a couple of years ago. Too much talent is a good thing to have, also Buxton in AAA buys the extra year of control. Hopefully out of this comes a trade(maybe at the end of spring training) to remove the logjam. Still on the bandwagon to trade Dozier as he could bring the biggest haul in terms of major league ready talent. Expect none of this to happen until the end of spring training. Other choice will be to give Dozier more days off as he seems to wear down during the season.
  4. This group has been very critical of signing players to block the youngsters from coming up and now a lot of them are saying we should be signing 2-3 relievers to 3 year contracts(and this will not block the youngsters?). This bullpen will be OK until the youngsters come up and then should be very good. I think you are going to see more teams playing small ball early and trying to get a lead by the 6th to turn it over to the pen. These go in cycles. I also feel that Twins starters will go deeper into games and that in turn should reduce the stress on the back end. I also feel that Pressly will help in the back end, and may replace Fien in that role. That is what spring training is for.
  5. I believe Santana is a lock to start with the Twins. Arcia will be given every chance to suceed. If he fails it will be because he has not been able to figure out major league pitching. Tonkin will not make the club as I expect one or two of the super pitchers along with Pressly to beat him out. I hope TR gets some value and trades him in spring training
  6. I would expect the Twins pitchers will be better than the hitters. Twins pitchers seem to look like major league average, Twins hitters could be all over the place, but look less than average to start.
  7. Expect a few of the Rochester, Chatanooga pen prospects could well start with the Twins. They will be given the chance(I hope).
  8. You can make statistics tell you anything you want. I would like to believe that the Twins will get 3-4 of their younger relievers up this year. I believe Pressly will be here at some time and also maybe Graham. After that you have Chargois, Burdi, Corey Williams, and Mason M(won't try to spell it). There also may be others (Rogers and a couple of less heralded pitchers). This site talks about blocked players all the time and then totally ignores this for the bullpen. These young pitchers bring serious gas, and I hope they will be allowed to use it here. Also don't forget Meyer who may yet figure things out. That is about 8 pitchers for the 3 - 4 spots. I would expect some of them to work out.
  9. With the Twins minor league talent, you do not want to sign a pitcher for more than one year, none of the better relievers would sign a one year contract, end of discussion.
  10. I would hope that all the Twins starters pitch well in spring training. At the end of spring training teams will have injuries and be looking for a starting pitcher. Then you trade one of the bigger money men.(or Tommy Milone). I would rather clear one of the three righties.
  11. I expect this year will be telling, he will reach AAA where a number of AAAA pitchers exist. They will exploit his weaknesses and we will have a much better idea of what his success expectation will be in Minnesota. I too hope he makes it.
  12. You missed Corey WIlliams and Mason Melakokios(need help with spelling his name).Either one could make the opening day roster and probably within a year be blocked with a 2 - 3 year Left handed reliever contract.
  13. I agree with much of the above, however teams like this can get old in a hurry. Bullpen is much better at the end, but little change above. Zimmermann is not Price and rest of rotation is iffy. What you get out of Verlander could be the determining of which end of the crapshoot they are on. To get to be really dangerous might have had to spend another 20 - 30 million to upgrade the pitching. This team has at most a 3 year window after which the desert beckons.
  14. Still also like Cleveland, they will need to spend more money, but starting pitching is much better that the rest of the division. They could be a force if money is spent to upgrade the offense.
  15. Believe Arcia, if he does not bomb in spring training will be in Right, with Sano in left and Rosario in center, not ideal, but one choice. Santana will be utility for all positions And Nunez will be infield backup and left field third option. If Arcia bombs or Buxton or Kepler has an outstanding spring, all bets are off, but would guess either Park is sent out to AAA for a couple of months to get his feet under him or TR will have to make a major trade at the end of spring training, stay tuned.
  16. If Michael is ever going to make the Twins, I would expect he needs to move up to Rochester, so think he will start there. That would move on of the Rochester players down.
  17. Agree with the nice summary. Hopefully Murphy does become a league average catcher, we gave up a to acquire him. Hoping that Garver becomes the answer by mid 2017.
  18. PED's have a lot to do with the older trend. Players now fall off shortly over 30. Only superstars now can last into their mid to late 30's. Plus system is rigged as commented above to playing a good share of players less in years 1-4 against what they can make later. Because of this I expect a new CBA to be very difficult to do.
  19. This was to be expected after the end of the PED's. However this is going to be quite an issue to negoiate the next labor agreement. I can see the players wanting arbitration after 2 years and FA after 4 or 5. How this will work out is to be seen.
  20. Depending on price most of the names look viable. Would not mind a 1 or 2 year flyer on Marshall, Morrow or most of the others.
  21. Hoping some of these work out. It seems to be working as a strategy and the Twins should have a shutdown pen by sometime in 2017 if all works out.
  22. One question, if they want to send Nolasco to AAA and he ops out, does that not end his contract with the Twins. If it does and he is not in the top 5, GO FOR IT.
  23. I also believe the Duffey will be the 5th starter. Nolasco will either be gone or the long reliever. Also believe the Rogers will be a long man. Have no faith in Tonkin, so pencil him in as gone and either a trade, FA, or one on the kids will also make this time. We are in it to win, not to find out what we have this year.
  24. I think you have to tender all 6. Fien and Plouffe are trade candidates, but you have to have them under contract to trade them. Fien also is protection against the Twins minor leaguers not being ready to start the season.
  25. Storen is interesting, depends on the price. Best hope is one or two of Meyer, Burdi, Reed, etc put themselves in the bullpen by midseason.
