  1. Like most of the ideas except Hughes, maybe you group Correria with another bat. Twins need to open spots in their rotation and this would be a way to do it. Also what about Nolasco to an NL team who could use him and take back some more prospects.
  2. Little high on some of the new guys(especially Clay), also might need to see if they sign first. Gordon is already signed, so should have a place. Nice entertaining list though.
  3. I think we do get a look at Darnell at some point this season, probably after Correria is gone, Meyer may wait for more consistency, May we also may see at some point(either he or Darnell are likely to be called up before Meyer). Meyer will be seen if the Twins fall out in the next two months otherwise probably will be September depending on innings pitched this year.
  4. No idea who will be the Twins SS of the future, but the only 2 prospects are Polanco and Michael and both are in Ft. Myers. Whether either will pan out is to be seen.
  5. And well it could be. I noticed that most of the Twins wins came late against pitching that was not expected to(and did not make) the major league roster. Hope it can change, not counting on it.
  6. Problem with going younger is that the younger Twins players have just hit AA. Most of the Twins AAA farm club is that the players have already have had their chances and failed. Wait until next year hopefully.
  7. 1. Maybe Mauer will play 150 games and keep his OBA high. Extra power would be nice, but maybe he tried to do too much last year or was more dinged up then anyone thought. 2. Hopefully Sano will be here this year, almost certainly next. Will have to see how he does in AA or AAA to be sure. Chance of making the club in spring training 5%. 3. Probably not unless cup of coffee in September, if early he has been really good or club has been really bad. 4. Hughes is probably what he is A good #3 at best. Ballpark should help, but do not expect a frontline starter. 5. Hopefully 6. Meyer will have to help this club. Hopefully this year(After one of the starters is traded to make room for him). Will probably start in AAA, but would love to see him make the jump. 7. Hopefully Dozier continues to improve. That would always be a nice problem to have. Rosario was drug of abuse, Hopefully he learns his lesson. 8. It was Gibson's first full year back from TJ surgery. Let's see how he does this year as this year will go a long way in telling his future(50/50) 9. Hopefully never 10. Kubel making this team would be good news/bad news. 11. N/A 12. We all hope sometime during his Twin career. 40 a year in this ballpark would be great. 13. Too many to count. 14. N/A 15 N/A Wolves are a mess, maybe 8 more years in the non playoff mode. (Worst case Love leaves which make the trading of Williams one of the worst in Wolves history). All other good players leave at end of contract and Wolves have to start over.
  8. I think for pitchers, it is tough. For writers who have never seen the player, I would guess a number do not do the research. Factor in the ballparks they played in, if a number of runs where given up when they were pitching in blowouts and just getting the game over(etc), how they pitched in big games. These are some the underlying factors that many writers do not take into consideration.
  9. It was not so much that the Yankees were planning on going over, it was the amount over(in the range of 12 -15 million over their 2-2.5 million cap. It could also be they are planning on using this to restock their farm system which is weak. I do not know what would be available to the Yankees on this plan(if there are several very interesting players they feel it would be worthwhile to sign). Or if this is designed to force a rule change. They watched the Cubs spend double there allotment this year and net two of the top 5 players and 2 others in the top 30. The money the Yankees are quoted as their budget would allow them to sign almost if not all of the top 30 players eligible this year in the market. Not all would make it, it would just give the Yankees a competitive edge for one year in this market. But if the Yankees were able to use this strategy every other year, maybe they figure that agents and friends would hold back players until the Yankees could be players. Do not know the answer, it is just another way of a big market team using the system to their advantage. It is also why most other sports either have hard caps or weighted caps and drafts.
  10. According to a post I saw yesterday on mlbtraderumors the Yankees were quoted as saying money was no object to them in the international market. Teams are given a set amount to spend in the international market and then a 100% luxury tax kicks in along with other penalties. The Yankees have I believe somewhere around 2 million to spend and they are talking in the range of 12-15 million not including the luxury tax. Do the small market and mid market teams need to stand up and make this a hard cap or insist on a draft for the international market. If the Yankee's plan is allowed, this cap has become just a joke. The big market teams will sign who they want and drive the prices up on the better players and leave only the crumbs for the mid and small market teams. Should be an interesting ride as the Cubs did something similar last year. What should the Twins response be, just spend the money if they feel the player is worthwhile and take gambles to drive up the price on the rest, or join the mid and smaller market teams to close this loophole. This loophole may close if there is an international player draft coming.
  11. Escobar may start a few games at third against very tough right handers. Unless Santana gets here this year(or Rosario) this is what we are looking at this year. Only other thing would be if Bartlett turns back the clock and wins the shortstop job(very unlikely)
  12. Rollins has a full no trade clause, so don't expect him to come here.
  13. I also agree. Twins need to find out what they have and move on from the failures(either in 2014 or 2015). I think Parmelee is going to be a failure and needs to be sold now to get any value.
  14. Latest post on mlbtraderumors references an article by LaVelle E. Neal III citing an anonymous source as the Twins have signed Phil Hughes. This is supposed to be a 3/24 contract. If this is correct it is good news. I would rather have a different pitcher, but this signing cannot hurt. Decent price for a pitcher. TR at least is getting decent value for Poland's money.
  15. Thorpe is higher than I have seen, that might be a good thing. It looks like Dozier will have to play shortstop to be a long term fixture here, both Rosario and Polanco can hit. Future looks bright if most of these and the next 15 pan out. Still expect some to fail, just hopefully not almost all. Pitching will be the key.
  16. I feel the most damning point on Rick Anderson was Liarano, who the Pirates fixed. That to me is a major black mark. The only point would be if he was throwing the same mix as 2006 and a walking arm injury to ending his career. I do not know that answer.
  17. Twins should take the BPA in every draft. If that is a shortstop, so much the better. Twins have little depth there and Santana is no sure thing.
  18. Two I see on the list are Brian McCann and Stephen Drew. Both clubs (Boston and Atlanta) do not care if the player accepts the offer.
  19. I think Parmelle is not going to make it with the Twins, do not see a spot for him unless the Twins send Pinto to Rochester for more work. That would leave Doumit, Mauer, and maybe Herrmann to catch and play first base. More likely for me is that Plouffe plays 1B against Lefties and Twins go that way, and if Parmelle is not traded Twins could decide to lose him.
  20. I remember the Twins since 1961 and teams before that(I followed the Dodgers). Lots of ups and downs depending on the budget. Hope the Twins can get front line pitching to make the next run. But still always root for them(though it took a few years to change from the Dodgers, remember Them Bums).
  21. Duensing may not be here next year. So that would open up another reliever arm.
  22. I also have read the same comments about the players not responding. I am a Gardy supporter, but feel a new voice is needed.
  23. Agree with most. Pelfrey is a FA and would not count unless resigned. No reason to not keep Hendriks until they get some FA pitchers in here. Otherwise it is possible, but no likely they could need him. Do not know on Albers and Diamond, but they are in the same class for me. Rochester could have a very good AAAA rotation next year, they should not be in Minnesota.
  24. tanking it is for low payroll teams. Twins should be better than that as the fans will not accept not trying. Since you need probably 3 starting pitchers, the low end one could be a Pelfrey, who at least wants to be here. Twins still need two very good FA pitchers.
  25. Possibly 2 starting pitchers in that list Correia and Gibson. Meyer and May may be here next year, but that may be a rush. None of the rest look any better than what we have. Then we need 2 FA pitchers over the next 2-3 years to make us competitive (around .500) and hope for Twins fans.
