  1. First two points are already done, last 3 points are still pending. All depends on final budget number and trades made. Outfield needs to be addressed, but from what I am reading on some other blogs(major league trade rumors among others) is that there will be several outfielders on the trade market or FA's this year and in that class the Twins players are second options.
  2. Do not think it will hurt GIbson to start in Minnesota. Weather on the east coast can be cold and damp in April and would rather have Gibson start in Minnesota where Twins can use him when weather is at least passable. Besides Twins need the added interest of a Gibson unless TR signs some decent FA's or makes some trades. Very good to see that Gibson is doning this well against many of the better minor league hitters.
  3. Benson may still have a two or Three year window here to prove himself or he may be a throwin on a deal or obtain pitching. Have not given up on him, but his time is moving by him at a rapid rate.
  4. I agree that unless you want to spend big bucks on pitching this offseason, the Twins will have to trade to get more pitching into the system. This will entail some risks.
  5. Trading away REPLACEABLE talent for talent. This is not a zero sum game, it is a way to survive. Look at what Oakland has done over the past few years. Twins have a glut of outfielders coming, also have some first basemen coming if they do not resign Morneau. Use the excess in those positions to find pitching is the way the Twins have to go. That being said, I believe the Twins will have to sign an expensive FA pitcher for the reason of trying to keep their season ticket base, less this become a downward spiral until the next group of above average talent arrives about the same time.
  6. I was not saying both Hicks and Arcia making the Twins roster, I was expecting one(probably Arcia). Twins have had a number of players jump from Double AA to the majors as hitters. I also expect that Span and Parmalee may be traded for one major league ready starter and one prospect/suspect. Do not believe in relying on Gibson or possibly Baker to help next year can be expected(though expect Gibson will be here next year at some point). I agree that Marcum would be a huge upgrade and hope that happens, but do not think Twins will sign two FA pitchers and will be disappointed if they have many of the same starting pitcher suspects they have this year. Most of those should be in AAA and used if needed.
  7. Best way for the Twins would be to trade for pitching. Difficult but it can be done because several small market teams are looking for Cost Controled hitting. This should work to the Twins advantage if we do not pay too much or buy the wrong pitcher. Oakland, Seattle and Tampa Bay all fit this profile. Washington is another option, but has a higher budget.
  8. Morneau stated that he wants to remain a Twin. Now is the time to see if he will take a club friendly extension in the 9 - 10 mil a year range. Otherwise next year could be difficult, if he has a great year it will cost more money, if he is terrible, you will not have to pay him after next year, but more likely he will be slightly above what he has done this year, leading to the range quoted above.
  9. I believe that Benson should be lower at least until he shows he can adjust next year. Maybe move everyone else until Hermsen up a spot. Top end looks solid, but still most are 2 years away. This is better than last year however for a positive note.
  10. This does not clear room for the up and coming outfielders. I can buy into the fact the Twins will sign one FA starter, but believe they will trade for one or two starters.

    Winter Trades

Why would Baker want to sign here? Would want him only on a two or three year deal and do not think he will do that.
  12. Color him gone. Twins have better and cheaper options.
  13. I would try, but do'nt think Baker will take it. He can get more from other clubs.
  14. I also agree, but feel that at least one of the New Britian outfielders will force their way on the opening day roster. So the Twins need to trade an outfielder, if not now in spring training.
  15. I believe several of the mentioned above players will be outrighted at the end of the season, Manship, Carson, Butera, maybe Walters and De Vires. My guess is the roster will have to be cleared to add players that will need to be protected from the Rule 5 draft. Have not had time to research the players that need to be added(sorry), but have seen a couple of lists in prior posts. Also add Casilla to the list of probably will be outrighted as he has been given 3 chances to take the position and is 0 - 3.
  16. I would try and extend Justin now if the deal can be in the 30 mil for 3 year range. If he does not like that than try and trade him this winter. The Twins will not offer arbitration after next year(he might take it). So it will be better to get something than nothing. My guess is that the Dodgers did not offer either of there 2 high end pitchers for Justin. They were looking for a salary dump and the Red Sox forced them to take Beckett and Crawford to get Gonzales(who is much better at this time than Morneau)
  17. I think it is more likely one of De Vries and Walters may be pitching here. This is along with 2 TBD(FA) pitchers. The twins need to put fans in the seats, bring this team back will not accomplish that.
  18. More testing has seem to had results. About 10 years ago it seemed a number of balls not hit that well left the park. Also the number of players in the majors who are over 35 seems to have remarkedly decreased. That tells me the policy is working. Not to say a number of player still probably try to cheat, masking agents are getting better, and until all of there residual makeup is known, it will be hard to get all of them. Best way of finding them is remarkable preformances by playes past their prime (Colon) or way out of line preformance changes(Melky Caberra). Not to say you cannot guess at others(A-Rods injury issues the last 2 - 3 years for one).
  19. Do not mind an optomist, though you may be excessive. May need more of a half time catcher by that point, still lacking a ace in the pitching staff. Also feel like Hendriks does not get it and maybe never will, same with Benson. Can see Mauer being more of a first baseman by this time, so that moves Arcia into DH or outfield. That may work. Also expect the one of the middle infielders will be an FA, along with one of the ptiching staff. or as said TBD. My recommendation would by Marcum and Stephen Drew, but others could fill the bill. Baseball is becoming more like business. A few high priced stars, some upper mid level and a bunch of low level on most teams. The mid - lower level will be mainly FAs the move from team to team every few years (Jamie Carroll types) read contractors.
  20. Deduno is wild enough, he should be able to hit a Texas main man without a issue unless it is a head shot. He may even do it not intentionally. That will put Texas on the defensive without the ability to reply as the first hit batter will probably force the umps to issue a warning and Gardy can argue pitcher wildness.
  21. I agree with most of this. We still need a middle infielder and 2 Starting Pitchers. I would rather package Parmalee with Span to get back some pitching. Twins power arms are 3 - 5 years down the road and hitting with a couple of changes should be fixable to contend.
  22. For all the comments on Marcum - he was a sucess in Toronto! Like the idea. Morneau's best fit is with the Dodgers. Tampa Bay is too much a small market team for that move, Texas or Seattle would be the other spots. Span's landing points could be Cinn, LA Dodgers, Tampa Bay, Arizona or Washington. All these teams have excess pitching(though getting them to give it up may be difficult. Not totally sold on Parmalee, much more in line with trading an outfielder. Would hate to give up Willingham, but for a Major League ready starter and a decent prospect would live with it.
  23. I also believe Span will be dealt if TR can get reasonable pitciing in return. Stiiill nees a middle infieder as I agree Casilla will be a non-tender (Stephen Drew anyone). I still think they need 2 FA pitchers as do not see enough talent to expect internal options to prevail. Gibson will start in AAA with the expectation of being the first calllup. Diamond is the only lock as I expect Deduno to also make the rotation. The door on Henricks is quickly closing, still looks like a good AAA pitcher. Slama will not be resigned. I expect right field to be a platoon between Arcia and Mastroianni. HIcks would need a super spring training to make it. Burnett may not be back(hoping). Outside of that bullpen will be about the same with maybe an FA or 2.(cheap) Would trade either Morneau or Willingham if it brought #2 type pitching prospects (#1 prefered, just do not think it will happen)
