  1. We can cover 2 injuries in the field with Martin or Lee. Late season we may even see Camargo or Erod get the call. Injuries to any of the pitching staff is a worry. Always is a worry.
  2. Seems like the Twins are better at finding and developing talent out side the top 100 prospects list than many teams. Many fans are mad at the return for Polanco but that trade may payoff for a decade. In the short term, his production has been covered. We definitely are deep at the farm system and can pull 2-4 solid rookies every year for the foreseeable future. That will keep our championship window open for years to come. FA’s are nice. Winning trades is better. Winning the draft and development game builds championship teams.
  3. Why is Sands our only option for long relief? Seems like most of our pen could be stretched out to be the long guy. Sands sucks. Pick someone else.
  4. Winoker is going to be a stud! We better hold on to him!! Doncon has some awesome tools but he needs to find some patience at the plate. Time will tell for these youngsters tho. My bet is that Erod will be in a Saints uniform by the end of July ‘24.
  5. Even tho Castro wasn't anywhere near a rookie last year, he and Brock Stewart in my mind were Twins rookies that WON their roles on the team as first year twins and will likely be around for a few more years. even tho he doesn’t have an everyday position to n the field, he will get to play 130+ games and 500 AB’s because he is a very valuable role player. And he is Willi Willi good at it.
  6. Don’t want to high jack the thread but the last thing we should be worried about is our infield defense. It may end the year in the top 4 or 5 units in MLB. Julien will not be the weak link either.
  7. Canterino is likely experiencing some of what Maeda and other TJ recovery guys have. Its not abnormal at all. He will likely be building up for a while yet and hit some pain in the process.
  8. @Cody Pirkl @Mike Sixel I understand the need for as many arms as possible but at what cost? If we spend 6-8M on Lorenzen now, does that mean we cant make a play for a #1 rental in August because we are already over budget. Young pitchers can be aggravating but at this point, we might want to make the sneaky play to get them some innings before summer just to see if one will stick. Its a new year and we really only need 1 guy to find it. 2 if we have more injuries.
  9. @Cody Pirkl I agree with your assessments. My argument is, do you roll with what we have right now or do you go out and get Monty. Just another bandage guy isn’t anything more than what we have in our system already. Its just another arm. DeSclafani only had #5 spot because Varland has options. Just like if we spent $ on SPx at this point. x would get #5 until x failed somehow. If we are going down that road, why not ride a thoroughbred in Monty instead of any broken down SPx.
  10. I disagree. Our current depth can eat 100+ innings of 4.2era SP. DeSclafani was never going to be the difference between 95 or 90 wins. He was never more than a road block to Varland. We got him covered easily. It’s only an issue if our top 4 guys cant cover 110 starts and Varland cant cover 25-30 starts.
  11. As much as we don’t want to get thin at SP, are we actually thin right now? I would say not at the moment. Festa and SWR have looked really good. There is also Headrick, Canterino and Dobnak. Thats a pile of guys that can all get 5-10 games. We also have late season cameo appearance possibilities in Raya, Culpepper and Cory Lewis. We got guys. If we aren’t going to spend money on a playoff starter, find one out of this pile.
  12. Are we technically better off with Varland getting 30 starts if he can consistently pitch into the 6th inning? If spot starters only have to cover 20 games, we really have nothing to worry about. Stop the handwringing. At least until we lose one of the top 4 guys.
  13. Without knowing what he is trying to improve, it’s impossible to be an armchair coach. Maybe he is trying to recognize breaking balls better? Maybe he is trying to unlock more opposite field power. My point was that just because there are strikeouts over 50% doesn't mean that a horrible season is inevitable. If you want to care that someone is striking out most of the time in ST without knowing why, go for it. I could care a less.
  14. It almost seems like they were planning for the worst by signing all the RP’s knowing that Varland would likely pitch in 30+ starts.. If he has just a solid season of results, we will be fine but if anyone of the 5 has an issue, its gonna be a problem.
  15. Ownership needs to make an investment in Monty. He is the expensive high end workhorse we need.
  16. Everything in ST before the last 3-5 games should be used to develop skills and habits to excel and stay healthy for the next 7 months. I am waaaay more concerned about short and long term health in ST than K’s by a couple sluggers or a dinger given up by an ace pitcher. Get the mistakes ironed out now, not in April, May and June. So the team won a meaningless game today but DeSclafani is shut down. Duran on the IL. Thielbar is behind schedule and Buck is sore and cant swing a bat. That stuff is important. Not todays win.
  17. Ouch!!!better to do that in March than October! If he has that good/great year, I think it will be obvious that he will search for and get a high pay contract. Probably with the Mets, Mariners or Dodgers. Making the QO is a free draft pick just for filling out some paperwork.
  18. He is working his way back to MLB. He will be back when he is needed.
  19. Alcala has a better shot at being this years Stewart… even tho he has been around here for awhile.
  20. Its all about finishing strong in October. Building blocks being placed together in March doesn’t always mean immediate wins. Not concerned one bit about slow starts.
  21. I doubt Okeefe and Garry are on the same trajectory that Lee is. They also haven’t been given the ST opportunities that Lee has had.
  22. Maybe a surprise is coming before ST is over. I wouldn’t have guessed that Cease would be a Padre a week ago.
  23. Because 2nd is so much different than SS? Julien wasn’t exactly even average at 2nd until he developed more at the MLB level. What if the best chance at winning games in MLB includes Lee’s AB’s just like Julien last year? Wouldn’t they make room for him somewhere in MLB?
