  1. Here is a question and/or a different way to frame the Mahle trade... Was trading for Mahle the largest "swing" for a playoff starter the Twins have ever attempted in-season or at the trade deadline? Yes, he was hurt after he got here. And yes they gave up a couple of major leaguers for him (we can quibble on how good they are, and a lot of that is for the future to play out) but is there any other trade in team history that was AS BIG a swing to add a potential difference maker in season? I guess that's why I'm ok with it. I can't think of one that is close. Certainly not from the Terry Ryan era. That's why I also am ok with the process here to go after a Tyler Mahle. That shows me that if the team is in contention and needs a difference making piece, then the front office has the ok to make that choice. To me, that's a positive. Even if the results after the fact didn't work out.
  2. According to the Twins site, on 12/14 the Twins signed Niko Goodrum to a minor league contract. That's interesting, and cool he is getting another chance. According to his stats, he last played in the majors with Houston in 2022, getting in 15 games for 45 at bats. In 2023, he played in the KBO, and in 50 games (201 plate appearances) he batted .295/373/387. Not a huge sample size, but the Twins do like to have guys who can play multiple positions. I'd IMAGINE he is more depth for the Saints this year. Still, fun to have an "old friend" back :)
  3. The process was solid, and he got hurt. They didn't lose any stars, or especially any up the middle or core players. I hope they make more deals like this, and next time hopefully that pitcher stays healthy. The worse outcome would be to be gun-shy next time a deal is on the table.
  4. Count me in the group that is both grateful that this front office has the intestinal fortitude to make a deal like they did for Mahle, as well as someone who doesn’t regret the players that were made at that deadline. The Twins have a deep system of prospects. Maybe not a ton of STARS (Walker Jenkins notwithstanding potentially) but they have a lot of future major leaguers who are currently at different levels in the minor leagues. Im excited to see who this front office acquires to add to the pitching staff this offseason. I’m also still at the point that they would do due diligence in deciding what is a fair deal to make
  5. I REALLY like this idea, quite a lot. He kills lefties, and would be a solid middle-of-the-order type bat who also COULD be a 3rd catcher if necessary.
  6. Hopefully the team makes revenue that they will use, and hopefully all of the games are broadcast.
  7. Dumb question I’ve been mulling; if a team were to take on Robbie Ray’s salary (3 years, 23 million each year, but an opt out after 2024, and he is coming back from Tommy John so probably not back until May or June) would that entice them more to move someone like Miller or Woo? I mean, the twins have payroll concerns of their own, so I don’t know if they would even want to take on that money. Just a thought
  8. He had shoulder issues even before spring training 2023. He didn't play 3b at all until the last game(s) of spring training because he couldn't throw. I HAVE to think that played a part in him not hitting well, even early on this past season. If his shoulder is right, I have quite a bit of faith that he can bounce back a bit in 2024. I don't know that that means for production, but I do think it'll be better than what his 2023 showed.
  9. I like the idea, and I appreciate the research. I'd prefer a more top-of-the-rotation type arm. But he is young, cheap for a long time, and has shown some success. IF Baltimore is open to trading any pitching they have (are they?) and the Twins see something to unlock, then this isn't a crazy idea. That said, our best potential trade chips are young bats. Where is a spot that Baltimore needs more bats? It seems like they would mostly be in the market to add pitching as well? Or are you thinking of trading some of our young arms for him?
  10. Would be nice for Lewis to have a full and healthy season in 2024. If he is preparing for 3b, I say let him stay there and get comfortable next to Correa. Figure out 2b after that, be it Lee or Julien. This team needs a healthy season out of Lewis, and he is fine at 3b. He has had so much turmoil (athletically) over the last few years, so put him at 3b for now and keep him there. If he does eventually move to 2b, fine: just doesn’t have to be right now is all
  11. I’d absolutely be open to someone with a one year deal left (Corbin Burnes for example) if they can fit in as a high impact starter for 2024. I wouldn’t say the same for someone who wouldn’t slot in as a playoff level arm
  12. I think they are aware that the world series has been completed, and that today is 12/18/2023.
  13. Except Priester is an actual prospect, and threw about 160 combined innings last year. He would be our 5th starter out of the game I'd have to imagine, above Varland. I'd still want someone else, but it's not the worst idea here at all.
  14. We are very near Christmas now, and I’d imagine there won’t be any moves, for any team, between then and the early part of the start of the year. But yeah, hopefully they make the right moves this offseason
  15. I’m not saying they need one or not. But they have been connected to some this offseason
  16. JD Martinez, Justin Turner, Jorge Soler, and there are others. It sucks waiting, but there are bats out there still
  17. He is under arbitration through 2028. I’d imagine he is extended before then (barring injury) but his 2027 salary, in almost every sense, won’t be as expensive as Correa for sure, and probably not even Buxton
  18. I saw on Instagram that Jose Miranda is now a Boras client. Just thought that was interesting. I hope he is healthy going into the spring
