  1. This is where I'm at with Keller too. I don't know if they will extend him. They certainly haven't to this point. Maybe they hold off and listen more at this deadline (if an extension can't be made) but I'd be surprised if they don't either extend him, or trade him, before next offseason.
  2. Rogers would be a worthy gamble, and if you can get him back to his 2021 form you really have something. That said, even that year he threw 141 combined (between minors and majors) innings, and he's not really come close to that in any other year, Coming off of a year where he only threw 27 total innings (in 2023) I'd be hesitant to make him the PRIMARY addition. If they bring in one other pitcher who is coming off a healthy year with him (whatever that looks like) then this sounds good. Also, cromulent. Good word.
  3. I wouldn’t trade swr in a deal like this. Maybe someone else, but I’m not certain that this is the deal I would shoot for. I appreciate the thought process here though
  4. I hadn’t heard about this from the Giants. Thank you for pointing it out. And yes, it feels like a lie, and a cynical one at best. How you lay out Zaidi’s views on top of budget spending, it reads like he needed a scapegoat for not getting Ohtani to sign there. I don’t understand at all the purpose of crapping on the city you are from to blame for a player choosing to sign elsewhere. Who is to gain in this scenario? What was the purpose.
  5. If he is healthy, he certainly will have a chance. Would love to see that as his stuff always was exciting, if erratic. Does he have options left?
  6. Oh man, this episode was awesome. You guys are the best! Thank you!
  7. I think this is a product of baseball now, generally. It's difficult to be a starting pitcher AND show that your coach can depend on you to go 3 times through the order IF you are not solid that 3rd time through. IF a starter is capable of handling a lineup a 3rd time through, I'd argue that starter is not "back-end" of a rotation. I mean, how good is it to have a starter pitching the 7th inning when they typically get clobbered a 3rd time through? Sonny Gray comes to mind for me last year; If he didn't have a blow-up inning in the 4th (which FELT typical at times, that his 4th inning was the hardest one for him IF he were to have a bad inning, but I don't have the numbers in front of me) then it felt like he would get into the 6th that game. But Ryan (pre-injury at the end of June) and Pablo (all year) were the two guys who I had trust in handling a lineup a 3rd time through. My hope is that Ober and Paddack and whoever else they acquire also can get to that point, along with Ryan getting back to his pre-injury self. But yeah, if you have a strong/lights out bullpen (which I'd argue the Twins have set themselves up to have in 2024) I'd rather have a really good reliever face a lineup if the starting pitcher that day isn't a playoff level starter, which I also think is the line of, not being trusted a 3rd time through.
  8. I'll only add, the offseason is kind of a blank slate right? They don't have to clear payroll first before adding now. They could, theoretically, add payroll first and then trade guys after right? Players don't have to be traded to open up salary room. There isn't a set order there. If this were in-season that might be different. But with the offseason, it doesn't HAVE to be one before the other. To me, they are trying to add a pitcher that is a clear upgrade over your Lugo's/Wacha's/middle to back of rotation types.
  9. My dad and one of my cousins (the family I talk to the most about the Twins) also wanted him dfa'd. So it was 100% of the people I speak to in real life generally :)
  10. Aren't they saying that Kirilloff is just 1B now? I don't think moving him back to the outfield is part of any plan at this point?
  11. Thank you for bringing back the memory of that Mauer play. I remember it fondly too. :) I can't say I was really sad about not having Lugo. I think he has decent stuff, but he is 34 and last year he threw the most innings of his career in a season BY FAR (by almost 50 innings.) I hope he does well with the Royals. I want us to aim a step above for this offseason. Lee, I think, lands in a really good spot with the Giants. He certainly will be interesting to follow.
  12. I do agree, I wouldn’t sell him for a minimal return. I do think both Polanco and Kepler have actual trade value right now that can help in 2024. That would be my goal for either of them in a trade, to get something back that would help for 2024
  13. I just, imagine writing this article any time from like 2020 through about June of 2023. I know he was great the 2nd half of 2023, but I’m almost in the camp of, be grateful he was good so he actually has trade value now. 97% of us wanted him dfa’d mid season, so that he has value now isn’t a bad thing
  14. I mean he was league average through June. He was pretty awful July on.
  15. I also REALLY like how the pitching pipeline is looking. Wichita is going to be stacked starting in 2024, and some of that will matriculate up to St. Paul as the year goes on. I just want to make a deal for someone who can step in early in the 2024 mlb regular season rotation.
  16. Through June 2023 Joe Ryan 96 2/3 innings, 79 hits, 105 k's, 15 walks, era of 3.44, FIP of 3.36 Sonny Gray 87 2/3 innings, 80 hits, 89 k's, 33 walks, era of 2.67, FIP of 2.80. Pablo Lopez 102 innings, 87 hits, 126 k's, 30 walks, era of 4.24, FIP of 3.37 Gray threw the least amount of innings of the 3, and his homerun rate (I'd argue) was unsustainable, but all 3 were legit at that point. Ryan injured himself and tried to pitch through it to poor results, but his FIP was every bit as good as Lopez at that time. Ryan's homerun rate is still closer to league average. Gray's homerun rate in 2023 is unsustainable/lucky ongoing, or at least that's what I'd argue.
  17. When healthy, through the end of June, Ryan was pitching every bit as well as Lopez or Gray. His fastball/splitter combo is pretty elite.
  18. I’d imagine Hoskins gets a 1 year deal, or a 1 year deal with an option. Things like that work itself out
  19. I don’t know that I see both in the same trade either. But Kepler in one trade, and Polanco, or Polanco with prospect(s) makes sense to me
  20. I mean, maybe. Their websites certainly like the idea of Polanco and Kepler for 2024.
  21. I don't at all think Hoskins would displace a healthy Kirilloff. Hoskins, to me, would be replacing the at bats that Solano had in 2023. If Kirilloff is healthy, he would be in the lineup, and probably at 1B. Hoskins could play 1B (against tough lefties for sure) as well as DH, but they could plop him in LF occasionally too. And of course, IF Kirilloff is not healthy at points, then we have very good insurance right?
  22. His walk rate offsets that, and he is cheap for a number of years. It's just a thought. He has power and he takes walks, as well as has a huge arm in the outfield. I certainly take him over any of the players they traded away for 2024.
  23. I don't know. If you pair Polanco with a prospect or two (say, David Festa and someone else) then the difference is only adding 4 million right? I'd imagine another of Farmer or Kepler will be traded, which will also lower the payroll. I don't see Hoskins getting 20 million per year, more like 14-16 in 2024. Anyway, that's not CRAZY, and certainly would fall in line with what we are all guessing would be the drop in their payroll right?
  24. 100% in favor of adding Burnes somehow. And I do think a healthy Kirilloff (with help, maybe that's a healthy Miranda and/or another outside addition like Rhys Hoskins) can cover 1B. Buxton being health-ish feels like a pipedream, but if he is, then that solves that too right?
  25. We will see if he ever gets to that level again. I have a hard time saying 2024 Gray will pitch to the level of 2023 Gray. Not betting against it, I just don’t know that I see it is all
