  1. This might FEEL like digging to the bottom of the barrel. But the Padres left a catcher available in the rule 5 draft named Brandon Valenzuela. He played mostly at AA, and had 27 games at AAA for them this past year. His overall numbers were not strong, but he is apparently known more for his defense than his offense anyway. Fangraphs has him (as of July) as their #6 overall prospect, and MLB has him as their #12. Just thinking, if they were to move on from Vazquez (for example) I'd ALMOST rather than make a move for this guy (or take him in the rule 5 draft) compared to throwing 3 million at someone like Yan Gomes. Maybe I'm crazy. Don't answer that. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=valenz001bra
  2. Everything has to play out. But you are right, if they trade someone, I hope it's to trade from an area of depth to add to an area of need. You always need pitching, and they certainly could use some more catching in the system overall. If I am trading someone, it's to help in another area.
  3. You might be right. I worry a little about the corner defense the two of them (combined) will provide. But their bats were better as a whole in 2024 than they were previously. I wouldn't trade Larnach (for example) just to get rid of him. I didn't mean it like that. But I do have high hopes for Rodriguez and Keaschall too.
  4. I hope that Larnach and Wallner can earn a spot written in pen in the lineup for the next 3-5 years. They have a chance to earn it. It's not a given yet, right? And of course, if they don't earn it, the could be a tradeable asset for someone else too.
  5. I'd look at Canha more like taking Margot's spot from last year no? If all 3 of those guys are starting and producing, Canha isn't in front of them in my opinion. Would be nice to see any of them put a full season together at some point.
  6. I agree to a certain extent. Guys like Miranda and Julien even have an option remaining, so it's not like you have to jettison anyone to make this work. Having depth like this sets a baseline at minimum. If/when the young guys are ready to clear that baseline, then they will be up. And also, who are we kidding, when in the history of the Twins has everyone on the 26 man roster all been healthy at the same time?
  7. It's certainly upside to what Miranda provided the last 2-3 months of 2024. If Miranda hits like he did prior to July then he will earn at bats. Canha, if nothing else, could be primarily against lefties anyway, and there are spots there.
  8. Not everyone can be a 2 war or better player. You need a bench as well as other guys who can come in and contribute with depth throughout the year. The young guys will play when they are ready. Think of it as a better option than rushing someone first.
  9. I've been debating this offseason a bit. What would you guys think of signing Canha to a 1 year deal, and then flipping a prospect (think top 20 or so Twins prospect) to the Giants for LaMonte Wade Jr.? Both of these guys are good veterans who get on base and don't strike out. Both would be signed for 1 year deals, so they certainly wouldn't block anyone like Rodriguez or Keaschall or others whenever they are ready. Canha as your platoon outfielder against lefties and occasional dh, and Wade as your 1b in a platoon with Miranda (Miranda can play elsewhere too.) It would not be a sexy move per se, but it also would help the team (in my opinion.)
  10. Absolutely, sign me up. I do think moving a little more away from guys with high strikeout rates isn't a bad thing either.
  11. I'd love to hear the breakdown for this too. From the little I know, the top of the draft, in terms of prep guys, is stronger than the 2024 draft was. That's about the most I know though, so others certainly will know a lot more. @Jamie Cameron?
  12. I get they can get good players in many rounds. But moving up to me isn't just about a better player in the 1st round. It's the ability to spread a little money around and possibly entice a player or two to forego college because of the extra pool money if you move up. That's a good thing too.
  13. I can see that. As of now it's probably between him and Martin in that respect, depending on if they do trade Castro. Either way, they both would have options right? So I'd imagine both will play this year.
  14. If you have Keirsey, and Buxton is healthy, when would he play? He certainly doesn't fit a platoon with either Wallner or Larnach. I like his skillset. It's something the team doesn't have enough of, which is speed and defense. But it's hard to fit him into what feels like a square peg in a round hole. If they move either Larnach or Wallner, and want to start the year with a platoon in left with Keirsey and some right handed hitting corner outfielder (Mark Canha or Randall Grichuk) that would make more sense. I just have a hard time seeing his fit otherwise.
  15. I’ll take top 6 for sure. Or at least not dropping down to 15, which I believe is the worst that could happen.
  16. I’m one of those folks who sent a calendar reminder to a few family members to remember to watch. Sicko is the medical term. Can’t wait to see what happens! Thanks for the article :)
  17. What more does he have to prove at AA though, outside of just getting caught back up coming back from surgery?
  18. Zebby would still be considered a rookie in 2025, right? I'd have to think he should be on this list too no? Festa passed the threshold, at least as I understand it.
  19. As always, it depends on the return. But if you can maximize the return for him, go for it.
  20. Depending on what else they do, I'd be ok bringing him in. Even pairing him with Miranda and using the DH, IF both of them are healthy and going well, that's not a bad thing.
  21. I'm not resigned. It's hard being patient at times as the front office historically has been one to not have rumors come out at all, then all of a sudden a move is announced out of nowhere. I'll compare it to a home; they have good bones on the 26 man roster. Have to have health and some additions to it will help too. But they aren't starting from nothing. I'd imagine more rumor will come out next week with the winter meetings. I wouldn't expect free agency to give much until January or February. But trades certainly will take place this offseason. It'll be fun to see what the opening day roster will look like.
  22. I mean, they won 82 games in 2024 where the bottom fell out starting early August with basically this roster. Are you anticipating the bottom falling out earlier in 2025? Unrelated, I love that Jose Miranda's name is Jose Mirands in the blueprint :)
  23. Just saying, Falvey and this front office have been one of the more aggressive front offices in terms of making moves over the last 5 years or so.
