  1. Ok, what is a LOT? I don't see Teel coming back with him. But maybe there is a lower level pitcher they like, along with maybe a good reliever who is already at the mlb level. Would Casas, a good reliever and a decent arm/prospect be enough? Would you want something else?
  2. I have this idea in my head, based on a few tea leaves I feel like I've seen (especially from Dan Hayes) that the Twins and Boston could match up. It's a working theory, and I feel like I'm Charlie Day with the beautiful mind gif going on at the moment, but hear me out... 1) Boston wants pitching. They've also said they would listen on Tristan Casas. 2) The Twins want to be creative to upgrade the roster. 3) Dan Hayes, even today, said the Twins may have to be open to trading one of Jax, Duran or Ober to help the roster. 4) My theory is, the Twins won't trade players coming off of injured or down years. They want players coming off of a good year, or even a career year, so that their value is at their highest. 5) Throwing out the idea of Jax going back to starting (in my opinion) isn't a throwaway. I think that COULD happen, especially if they trade someone like Ober. Basically, a move that centers around Ober for Casas (with other parts going each way, depending, but I do think more would come back from Boston than would go out for us) could help both teams in my opinion. And IF Jax can make the switch to starting, then it certainly would be cheaper to add another solid bullpen piece than it is to add another starter. Yes, I'm crazy. But this is also the type of move I could see being discussed.
  3. According to the twins transactions log, they signed 2 minor league free agents on 12/2 and 12/3. Michael Martinez, relief pitcher who was in the dodgers system last year. Decent numbers https://www.milb.com/player/michael-martinez-681597 Allan Cerda, outfielder https://www.milb.com/player/allan-cerda-678323
  4. I like the idea. I’m not certain we would need to include Paddack and Vazquez, but I do think the twins need a middle of the order bat
  5. It's difficult to see a spot in the bullpen truly available to another player who wouldn't be able to be optioned, but Magdaleno is someone that seems interesting. Curious if they do take someone. Thanks for the writeup :)
  6. No, I don't think someone would trade a better pitcher for them. Or at least not a better one as of today. I figured if we were to trade one of them (and I'm not saying I'm for it) it'd be for a middle of the lineup type hitter who could make a difference there. I'm not even getting in to who that player would be. Just saying that is the kind of move I could see happen is all.
  7. I'd still do that trade every single time. Sometimes guys get injured, and I'm glad they added a playoff starting pitcher in season. The results didn't work out, but the plan was good. I don't know exactly who it would be that would be coming back. But you have to listen on your players and gauge their value no?
  8. I will just say, as always, it depends on the return. If a difference maker is coming back, you have to listen.
  9. 3/67. I guess the A's do have a pulse in terms of free agency. Good for them. Their payroll now quadrupled. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/12/athletics-to-sign-luis-severino.html
  10. I also truly enjoy just planning out for the worst case scenario. Truly a joy to look at life that way :)
  11. Yup, that's it. So it would definitely be a gamble. I assume they could just trade for him if they liked him between now and the rule 5 draft. That or if they did take him in the draft, and they liked him but didn't want to keep him on the roster, they could work out a trade for him in season.
  12. I know, but for today and this season that isn't a thing. That's all.
  13. See, I look at pitching at AAA and AA including Lewis, Morris, Zebby, Culpepper, Raya with Festa in the majors. I don't see Paddack on the opening day roster. I also think there is a real chance that Prielipp is at AA to start teh year. If someone LOVES one of these guys, I can see them being added into a deal. Not more than that. But this is just one move, and I can totally see adding more pitching to this grouping at AA and AAA this offseason as well.
  14. I would argue they are very much at a point that moving at least one of their pitching prospects currently slated for AA or AAA makes a WORLD of sense too.
  15. Nope. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/catcher_framing?year=2024&team=&min=q&type=catcher&sort=4,1
  16. Yeah, but Vazquez's framing and defense are superior to what Jeffers has shown.
  17. Totally fair. I just figured this would be a cheap way to add the potential for someone to their catching corps. They certainly could go another direction. I guess I'd prefer a veteran as a backup, but like you said, taking a young guy can work out at times.
  18. This might FEEL like digging to the bottom of the barrel. But the Padres left a catcher available in the rule 5 draft named Brandon Valenzuela. He played mostly at AA, and had 27 games at AAA for them this past year. His overall numbers were not strong, but he is apparently known more for his defense than his offense anyway. Fangraphs has him (as of July) as their #6 overall prospect, and MLB has him as their #12. Just thinking, if they were to move on from Vazquez (for example) I'd ALMOST rather than make a move for this guy (or take him in the rule 5 draft) compared to throwing 3 million at someone like Yan Gomes. Maybe I'm crazy. Don't answer that. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=valenz001bra
  19. Everything has to play out. But you are right, if they trade someone, I hope it's to trade from an area of depth to add to an area of need. You always need pitching, and they certainly could use some more catching in the system overall. If I am trading someone, it's to help in another area.
  20. You might be right. I worry a little about the corner defense the two of them (combined) will provide. But their bats were better as a whole in 2024 than they were previously. I wouldn't trade Larnach (for example) just to get rid of him. I didn't mean it like that. But I do have high hopes for Rodriguez and Keaschall too.
  21. I hope that Larnach and Wallner can earn a spot written in pen in the lineup for the next 3-5 years. They have a chance to earn it. It's not a given yet, right? And of course, if they don't earn it, the could be a tradeable asset for someone else too.
  22. I'd look at Canha more like taking Margot's spot from last year no? If all 3 of those guys are starting and producing, Canha isn't in front of them in my opinion. Would be nice to see any of them put a full season together at some point.
  23. I agree to a certain extent. Guys like Miranda and Julien even have an option remaining, so it's not like you have to jettison anyone to make this work. Having depth like this sets a baseline at minimum. If/when the young guys are ready to clear that baseline, then they will be up. And also, who are we kidding, when in the history of the Twins has everyone on the 26 man roster all been healthy at the same time?
