3 years 12.5 million. Good deal for him it seems. Sounds like he is a good up the middle defender who makes a lot of contact. If we are making this Twins related, this certainly takes them out of the running for a team that would look to acquire Willi Castro. At least that's what I would guess.

Varland is a bullpen guy. He'll be a good one too in my opinion. He isn't a rotation option. Zebby and Festa and Morris are all really close to helping any major league team in a positive way. Lewis and Culpepper both theorhetically aren't far away either. After that, I do think Raya will have the reins taken off this year at AAA. That St. Paul rotation will be fun.

I'd be open to it. Fedde would have been a fantastic addition last offseason. His 2023 numbers in the KBO were better than Hart's were in 2024, but similar strikeout and walk numbers are intriguing. And you are right, they can sign players any time. It's not at all that they HAVE to offload salaries before they sign players.

You aren't wrong. I don't see him ending up here. It's fun to dream, but right now is a hard time for the Twins to give a full presentation. My guess is Seattle

I know, but Falvey has said they want to add a 1B. I don't at all believe they think Miranda is a viable option full time at 1B. I wouldn't be shocked at all if he is traded in the next 6 weeks. Lots of moving parts coming. If Miranda is here (I'm a fan of his, I'd love for it to work for him here) I think he'll be more a DH and backup at 1b and 3b to hold a roster spot. That, to me, points again to Willi Castro probably getting moved.

I'm interested a little bit for a few reasons. 1) He is really strong on defense at 1B. That's something the Twins have said they want. He was runner up in gold glove voting to Santana last year. 2) He is signed fairly affordably through 2026. That's not the worst thing either truly. 3) Our new hitting coach has worked with him for the last 3 seasons. Knows what he has been working on and (hopefully) how to tap into what he had in 2021 or 2022 as far as power goes. 4) He is still on the younger side, as he turns 28 in February. I'm not saying he is a savior or anything. But if you are wanting to add good defense at 1B, with some pop, he can help in those categories.

Couldn't you also think longer term and know that the market is strong, the pitching development has been solid, and new ownership coming in will be supportive? Certainly he's not looking at such a small sample size as a minor trade for any team right? That said, my guess is Seattle.

None of the major league pitchers the Twins have, including Festa, should be available for Mountcastle alone. Pablo should be off the table completely, but if they are bringing up Mayo or Basallo (I prefer Basallo) then I could see Ober being an ask. Something like Mountcastle and Basallo could get interesting. For Mountcastle alone, I could see the twins flipping one of their many aa/aaa arms that are close to mlb ready.

Doogie mentioned yesterday the Twins really like Ryan Mountcastle. He would be really good for this lineup. Moves will be made in the next 6 weeks. Multiple. Should be interesting

I appreciate more and more as I get older when people point out that an athlete is old just relative to the sport they play :)

Have to imagine Trevor Amicone had some info to share on why he is worth going after with his time with the Yankees. Never a bad minor league signing. We'll see if he makes up it from St. Paul.

You mention Royce Lewis is the 3b. I guess I've been thinking he'll be the 2b. Curious how that plays out. But you are right, moves are coming, and they will have to add both to get to a full 40 man roster, as well as just set a floor at minimum. Interesting next 6 weeks or so with the offseason to go.

I think it does depend on personnel mostly. Lots of moves to still be made this offseason. Is Castro back? What role does Austin Martin play? Who is their 1B? Who is their right handed hitting outfielder they add? The moves they do make will answer some of the questions. That said, IF Lewis and Lee and Correa and Buxton are healthy, when they are on the field I don't see any of them having a regular platoon. Everyone else, it depends on the matchups to a certain extent and who they have on the roster.

I’d be open to these pieces if they truly would upgrade catcher and somewhere in our pitching rotation. I think I would actually pull the trigger IF there was a true prospect added to this. Like these two with Jackson Ferris, or even Andy Pages, then you have my attention

Where did you see this? His numbers in the KBO are impressive

Doesn't the saying around if a lefty has value, they need 2 things... 1) Are they left handed? 2) Are they breathing? I am a little surprised he got a major league deal, but him having some potential for value isn't crazy at all based on his overall track record. Hopefully he can get back to being an asset.

Best of luck to him

So is Ryan and Ober for that matter. I'm not saying we trade any of them. But Baltimore is a team that HAS to be getting desperate at some point to add pitching, right? I'm fairly certain they are talking to teams about trades. Seattle for sure, but there are others. We'll see what they do too.

I like getting more and more players who can put the bat on the ball. If Gasper isn’t on the opening day roster (presumably because they have 2 catchers ahead of him on the depth chart) he has 3 options remaining. So he could be good insurance to have for the next 3 years at minimum. Trevor Amicone certainly knows him from Gasper’s time in the Yankee system too. Plus, awesome moustache.

Adding to this thread; with Gleyber going to Detroit for 2025, and Colt Keith now listed as the primary 1B for 2025 on roster resource, I wouldn't HATE the idea of sending something to Detroit to get Torkelson here. Would I prefer to shoot higher? Sure. But he graded out about average, if not just slightly above average, defensively at 1B. There aren't a LOT of guys out there who are still available who aren't just flat butchers on defense. He also is still fairly young, and had an ok August and September last year. Could be a nice change of scenery for him. Two questions... 1) Would you be in favor of a move like this? 2) What would Detroit want to move off of Torkelson?
