Adding to this thread; with Gleyber going to Detroit for 2025, and Colt Keith now listed as the primary 1B for 2025 on roster resource, I wouldn't HATE the idea of sending something to Detroit to get Torkelson here. Would I prefer to shoot higher? Sure. But he graded out about average, if not just slightly above average, defensively at 1B. There aren't a LOT of guys out there who are still available who aren't just flat butchers on defense. He also is still fairly young, and had an ok August and September last year. Could be a nice change of scenery for him. Two questions... 1) Would you be in favor of a move like this? 2) What would Detroit want to move off of Torkelson?

1 year 15 million. Interesting signing for them. He's only 28, so young for a free agent generally. Interesting to see if he can bounce back for them after a down regular season for him in New York in 2024.

Agreed completely. IF they are trading any of their core, it HAS to be a good baseball move, not just a salary dump. Good article

Based on the roster I'd imagine he and Festa were traded for Jose Ramirez. Could be wrong -

Why not dig deeper though. I'd like to bring in 2004 Barry Bonds, 1990 Rickey Henderson and 1999 Pedro Martinez. I bet we'd only have to trade Nick Punto and Lew Ford to make it happen :) -
See, if the twins were trading someone like Pablo, I would be pushing for both of Basallo and Mayo in a package. Baltimore needs pitching, and they have high end prospects. Again, I don’t want to trade Pablo. But if they were blown away by a deal (not just a fair trade, one you can’t say no to) that is what it would look like no?

I don't want them to trade Pablo. But I also think Baltimore is the team that will still add someone via trade. I do think Buehler is more of a lottery ticket for Boston. If they are expecting more than 120 healthy innings from him this year, I guess that'd surprise me. Again, I don't want to trade Pablo

On top of all of this (and I agree, he won't and shouldn't be traded) why in the world would he accept a trade if he weren't getting a contract extension from the trading team? And with that, what team is giving him an extension on his current deal. It's not happening, nor should it.

And the Marlins sent a catching prospect back. Keaschall’s bat is far superior, but this kid sounds like he will be able to play defense. But really, one could argue, when you have prospects in the 60-100 range like Caba and Keaschall, they are probably about similar prospects in the industry. One team may prefer one to the other.

I’ll only add; wouldn’t it be just as easy to say; if you are a pitcher in baseball, you would have injury concerns?

Berrios is 6 years older than SWR. In Berrios’s age 23 season he threw 12 more innings at the mlb level than SWR did last year. He has been durable, and he has a fan in me. Based on only the numbers you laid out, expecting SWR to get those inning and strikeout totals isn’t really a big ask, barring health. I hope both of them have long and productive careers

Both Lee and Lewis I'd attribute some of their performance to injuries. Hopefully both will have great 2025 seasons. Julien, I guess we'll see. To me he is on the outside looking in currently. If he can get back to his 2023 pace, then he has a spot at 1b/2b/dh in some capacity. But we'll see what other moves are made. So many guys on the team, on the position player side specifically, have things individually they can prove.

I'd also be happy that we got our new hitting coach from them. He could totally give positive insight on what players to make a focus if we are talking trade, especially on the hitting side.

It's not perfect, and definitely shouldn't be the only one used. But I grabbed it quick just to compare and show that it wasn't "terrible."
