  1. Julien never had excellence, He's been bad in defense & is now focusing on hitting; his defense is much worse. The league has taken away his HR advantage & now he's just trying to hit the ball w/o striking out. Twins invested in him to be their future 2B, but it has failed miserably & left us very vulnerable at 2B. They should have sent him down early last season to adjust & learn 1B & kept him there until he profiles at 1B. But being stubborn, they have took too long to send him down & brought him up too early. & the Twins are still paying dearly for him to adjust at the MLB level, playing 2B too much & he still not any closer to learn 1B.
  2. As always an enjoyable MiLB report, Seth. Martin with a .526 OBP is phenomenal. Twins needed to play him at 2B & get him up as soon as possible! & then this happens. Hope it's minor, the Twins will have to wait to get the spark they need. For Raya, I trust the process.
  3. This off-season & into ST, I pondered about Falvey & Co. not being able to see our needs & putting band-aids on serious issues & playing players where they shouldn't. I gave up hope for the Twins being able to ever have a viable contender. I pondered if we aren't going to win, why hang on to this core that won us our 1st postseason game & series? & pay all this money when we can trade for some young MLB-ready players? I have come to my senses. 1st, I don't trust Falvey to pull off those trades & get the players we need. 2nd, I don't blame the core for playing w/o fire & chemistry. Yes, they are professionals, but they aren't only names & numbers on a spreadsheet. They are more invested in this team than we are. Don't you think that they are affected by how they are being handled? Falvey is more concerned about how smart he looks than the success of the team. I don't blame the core for the poor showing, I blame Falvey & Co. IMO, we don't have to change our core to have a future, we need to change management from the top- down.
  4. Miranda normally starts out a little cold. but I'm starting to think that he's playing hurt, Because Miranda is a very good hitter, he should be at the point where he should be raking. If I were Baldelli, I'd take my nose out of the spreadsheet & check it out before it gets out of hand as always.
  5. IMO, Baldelli has no idea what he's doing. After being criticized by the media for playing Ober while sicker than a dog. He made up his mind before the game that he was going to pull Ober early.
  6. I wouldn't doubt when it comes to Lopez again, they bypass him & call Zebby.
  7. Social media & Baldelli thinks that the Twins need is a dead slugger that can hit solo HRs when you don't need them & strikeout when you do, yet have decent SLG & WAR. What the Twins desperately need is a true leadoff hitter with fire, an OB machine that raze havoc on the bases, shake up pitchers to make mistakes for following batters, score runs, start rallies & win games. For most of Martin's pro career, he has been forced into who he is not. You can never play your best game under those conditions, especially at the MLB level. In '23, he was left alone under Gardy, which he played mainly his natural position 2B & had his best season. He could be our best 2Bman on the roster, with good splits he could be the full-time 2Bman. Baldelli loves his platoons, so expect Martin to play a lot of LF (where he's getting more comfortable at) against LHPs. Bobby Witt Jr. is a superstar; what makes him exciting is his fire. Twins need that fire, Martin could be a spark help get things going once he's comfortable where they put him.
  8. Great pitching by Ryan together with Jax in the 8th & Duran in the 9th; great formula. Great defense by Castro, although the 2 solo HR were welcome, they weren't needed. Fortunately, baserunning errors by Larnach & Vazquez didn't hurt us. Hopefully, it was a learning process. Although the lineup wasn't inspiring w/o Buxton, they did their job from unlikely sources (except Wallner's solo HR). Great to see Keirsey get some ABs, he needs them.
  9. I commend the Twins for PR with Keirsey & for at least make an attempt to run more. But one thing we need a smarter 3B coach, not someone who's good only at slapping a runner on the backside when they hit a HR. We need someone who's very decisive, quick to make a good call whether to go or stay. Also Baldelli's mindset should also be less HR-minded & more baserunning-minded. That means getting guys like Martin & Keirsey more in the game & turn them loose along with Buxton, Castro, Bader & Lewis when he's around, if only getting them in as much as possible to PR. Getting France to steal more bases won't get it done.
  10. Yes, I prefer Lee at 3B. I'd prefer Keaschall to be 100% before being called up at 2B & I don't know how great Castro is at 2B, he's more valuable at being utility & how available he'd be at 2B with Lee's availability & Correa needing a break once in a while.
  11. I don't hate anyone. Rooker came around in his age 30. All I'm saying that players like Keirsey & Rooker's potential is easily overlooked by Baldelli & others. Keirsey is a better fielder & runner than Rooker. Keirsey's MLB slugging potential hasn't been given a chance to develop yet. WAR is a poor way to evaluate a player, some are worse than others. 5.6+ WAR for a DH is ridiculous.
  12. Both Julien & Gasper need to go down. Miranda is an easy fix. Move him to 1B & give him a chance to learn 1B, he'd be better than France. The rare times I saw Miranda at 1B, he was adequate.
  13. Keirsey's 3 PAs or a bunch of PAs from Julien & Gasper is a player evaluation problem not a player problem. How can you hit with so few PAs? But as long as Baldelli is around, he'd be better off with a different club, that'll give him a chance. He could be a better player than Rooker.
  14. On SKOR North before the game, they stated that the Twins rank 29th in DRS (maybe they're last now). IMO our OF defense is one of the best with CFers Buxton, Bader & Keirsey plus Wallner & Larnach are solid for cOF. Our catching is average-ish (could be better). That leaves our INF, it's fragile & terrible, especially our right side. When the Twins broke camp with Julien, Gasper & France set, I stated that we'd be competing against CWS for the cellar.
  15. I'm not a Baldelli fan, but firing him now won't help anything. If we fire him now, that means Tingler will step in & he's worse. Eventually, Falvey will hire another Baldelli. If you want change, you have to start at the top. There are several teams that look good on paper but haven't done very well as far as getting to the postseason. Those teams go overboard on analytics & they get weird. One team that's trying to change that is SF. I wrote a blog about that if you are interested. https://twinsdaily.com/blogs/entry/23959-will-clark-rant/ . I have great expectations for the transition of the Giants from going crazy over analytics to a more baseball-smart focus. I'd give them some time for the new management to get everything in order but so far they are surpassing my expectations, competing against the almighty Dodgers for the division lead.
  16. Absolutely not. Raya was taken easy & wasn't injured which contributed to him getting more innings than if he was overextended & was blown out early as Canterino was. If Canterino was taken much easier, he wouldn't have blown out so early & pitched many more innings than he did. Why can't people see the logic in that?
  17. Keirsey hit in AAA. How do you know he can't hit? You believe social media? Almost nobody can hit in the MLB if they don't get ABs. You are totally disregarding his AAA production before he came up & evaluating him on nothing. He needs a chance which he hasn't been given. Give him that chance then you can evaluate his hitting. "Even so, he's still valuable as a LH CFer to spell Buck against RHPs, a pinch runner or a defensive sub. He was used as a PR, he stole 2B, provided a spark, scored a run, became a defensive OFer & then was forgotten"
  18. I agree, health is the priority. I'm not certain that the Twins will reach the postseason, so why push Prielipp to get him to the bigs? If something changes & we find ourselves in the postseason, then we can have this discussion. I like the way they are handling Raya & Prielipp & wished they had started Canterino this way & maybe even keep him in the BP to try to keep him on the field.
  19. Even with Baldelli getting ejected, that wasn't enough to get the Twins going because they have no fire & chemistry. As I've said before, our OF is very deep, with our CFers Buck & Bader (RH) have been productive & healthy as well our cOFers (LH). Keirsey (LH) is our bench player, who is our safety net in case any of these get hurt or are unproductive. Even so, he's still valuable as a LH CFer to spell Buck against RHPs, a pinch runner or a defensive sub. He was used as a PR, he stole 2B, provided a spark, scored a run, became a defensive OFer & then was forgotten. Baldelli preaches about getting a running game going but refuses to put in players that make a difference. Still, Keirsey is a young player & needs playing time at the MLB level, which he won't get while Baldelli is around. On the other hand, Julien is a liability offensively, defensively, provides no spark on the basepath & needs to be sent down to AAA to finally adjust his swing & learn how to play 1B. We need more than Buxton to spark this dead team. We need Keirsey, Martin & Keaschall to inject new life into this dead team as much as possible. But running is against Baldelli, Tingler & Watkins's way of thinking so they have no idea & don't remember to do so.
  20. I've advocated every year since I don't know when. for plenty of long relief. IMO, short outings aren't unusual, especially early in the season.
  21. AAA Columbus is a very good team. Saints are too, with great starting pitching & hitters. But it seems that the Saints need better late-innings RPs to keep their early leads. Dobnak had a good game,
  22. The narrative is that the BP is gassed? The 2 pitchers to blame are Paddack who hasn't pitched that much but gave up 4 runs & Jax, who gave up 2 runs and has pitched the least in the BP. Varland, until recently, has been an SP, he also gave up 2 runs, but I don't think he was gassed. IMO, the problem was throwing him into the high-leverage dreaded extra innings "ghost runner" situation when he just started to be a RP, where he had no right of being. Could the BP be gassed in the near future & be the cause for a loss? Yes, but not this one. IMO, it'd be prudish if they bring up a couple of long RPs (Mathews & or Festa) to preserve the BP if the SPs can't even make it to 5 innings. Also Paddack should be considered for that role in the BP until he can show that he can go more than 3 quality innings.
  23. Coming back from a 7-1 deficit shows a lot of grit & a confidence booster. Losing a 7-1 lead destroys confidence & gives other teams hope that they come back & beat the Twins. This loss is bigger than what it looks on paper.
