  1. I think it's strange that our best pitcher of the series was DFAed, that Julien was kept for his LH bat & was not used against any of the many RHPs used in this series, Alcala wasn't taken out of the game when he was hit by a bullet, Ober was sicker than a dog & was allowed to pitch, Martin is needed at 2B & wasn't played there while at AAA, Wallner has been bad at leadoff & is still cemented there and France's bat went dead when the regular season started to go with his bad glove & nobody even mentioned it. Our INF was really bad; Correa didn't even look that sharp. You put Julien at 2B, we go from bad to horrible. With that INF, we'll have difficulty beating even CWS.
  2. To reiterate, the fact that Martin has played very little at 2B doesn't mean that he's not good there. It's more that management is spending much of his time trying to force him into something that's not natural for him. Again the year '23, they left him alone & played him more at 2B; he had his best year. Both Julien & Ober have been sick. They didn't want to risk Julien looking even worse & dig a hole for him, but Ober, I guess they didn't care. We are very thin. Castro is ok ish at 2B, but his value is versatility. If one more person gets hurt, he's off 2B, leaving it open for Julien if he's 100%. I'm not disagreeing with you; I'm disagreeing with how management has mishandled Martin & Julien.
  3. Looking towards the future, the Twins have CF sewn up with Buxton, Emma, & Jenkins. So we'll have to look at our other premium positions. Catching is very questionable & SS? What will we do when Correa can't play SS? IMO, Lee is not dependable & Twins have drafted a ton of pseudo SSs that won't stick there. Our hope is that Culpepper and/ or Winokur develop into a Correa-type SS where one will stick or both rotate from SS to 3B.
  4. I'm skeptical of any game because I wonder how close the game can come to the intangibles. But I'll concede that we have a very good core & if they had better player evaluations to better see the needs of the team, make the necessary trades, fire up the team & better manage the team, the team should have finished much better in the postseason last season instead of the measy 4th place in the AL Central. Management likes to blame injuries (all teams have injuries), the hitting coaches (although they were just following the hitting philosophy they were given), not be able to sign FAs MAT & Rhyse Hoskin because we didn't have the money & now they'll blame the players, saying that they are no good. Heaven forbid that their ineptitude (besides pitching) is to blame.
  5. Good question, Cody. The answer to that question should be no, because they desperately need his fire, his fit at leadoff & his ability at 2B. But unfortunately, Baldelli doesn't have the same priority as I do where passion is a dirty word & his idea of leadoff is Wallner & they are in love with Julien at 2B. Twins have tried to fit Martin in unnatural conditions like SS & completely change his swing & the last 2 years play him in the OF at the highest level. If you ever played baseball & were asked to do something unnatural at a higher level, you have to focus on those unnatural areas; other areas will suffer. That's what is happening with Martin. In '23, when Martin was promoted to AAA, they left him alone. He mainly played his natural position 2B & he thrived. At 2B, we have Lee, who is 1st in line to sub SS & 3B & who has chronic back problems, and Castro, who is more valuable as utility & both Lee & Lewis are down, which makes him more needed elsewhere. Julien & Gasper are subpar at premium 2B. Keaschal is recovering from TJ & should be taken slow & not rushed & he's not on the 40-man. We need Martin settled at 2B where he can flourish defensively & offensively, create that spark & leadoff. Julien should be sent down to AAA to further adjust his hitting & finally learn 1B. Martin isn't needed in the OF so settle him at his natural position 2B where he's more needed. When Keaschal is 100% & is knocking down the AAA door then we'll evaluate the situation if both are capable to dominate 2B at MLB. But afraid with Baldelli's weird analytics he going to waste more talent & make this team worse.
  6. IMO, they should have taken Alacala out of the game after he was hit in the shoulder, no questions asked. Most players always say they're not hurt. Cardinals fans were very down. Twins have given them hope. Maybe they'll turn things around, thanks to us.
  7. Indians' Ashcraft pitched a good game but Emma hit at will & Martin was confident against him. Martin did well as leadoff, no SO & scoring from 1B off of Emma's double to help get the scoring started. I'd like Martin to play 2B to get him reorienated so he'd be call up to help the Twins there. But I imagined that Gardenhire was instructed to keep Martin in the OF where he's not needed. Festa looked good but IMO could improve his control. Great beginning for the Saints.
  8. I like Jeffers; he was drafted higher than many expected as a hitter 1st catcher. He's a good hitter & works very hard at catching. Swanson helped him at framing but that has suffered due to focusing on limiting the running game. Some say that he's a streaky hitter, but I contest that he's a very consistent hitter, especially after veering away from the Twins' old hitting philosophy. The problem with Jeffers is that he doesn't have the stamina to be the primary catcher that this FO has hyped him out to be. He's a weak side tandem where he excels at; throughout his career, anything more than this he starts to wane defensively & offensively. I've advocated since '22 to obtain a promising young catcher to potentially fill the primary catching duties & also help give leverage in negotiating with Jeffers. Jeffers has Boras as an agent, so that means he wants to max out on the hype & get the kind of payday that you are alluding to. Falvey has blindly put all his hope in Jeffers so that next year, when Vazquez is gone, we have nobody to fill the gap. That'll give Boras all the leverage he needs. Jeffers lacks the stamina & defense to come close to being a top ten catcher. I'm fine with extending Jeffers for $8+M but not $ that the catchers you are comparing him to (who are top ten catchers). Wilson Conteras, who is a better hitting & defensive catcher with the Cubs than Jeffers, is no longer catching. With Boras, I don't see the Twins extending Jeffers for $8+M, IMO there are 2 logical outcomes to this scenario: 1st, the Twins would way overpay for Jeffers. I have my doubts that the Twins can afford the $8M, much less the money that Boras wants. The other is what Boras prefers; that is, Jeffers walks & tests the FA. Even if Jeffers stays, they'll need a FA Vazquez to cover the void. If he walks, we need 2 Vazquezes. Due to lack of foresight, Twins suffer
  9. Sonny Gray's velo is down, so you know he was going to throw a lot of junk. So I don't understand the Twins' aggressiveness at the plate.
  10. One bright spot yesterday. After prolonged playing on an injured knee in '22, Polanco (Mr Clutch) is finally healthy. He got 3 of 5 SEA hits, 3 for 3 with a game-winning HR in the bottom of the 8th. Congratulations Polanco! I miss him. Congratulations to Keirsey on his 1st of many SB,
  11. You forgot "stable management, which just established a pitching pipeline but is inept in everything else, they have to be part of the deal." Adios amigos!
  12. I don't trust defensive stats dealing with range because I see too many GBs bleed through the INF when Julien is playing 2B. There are many things that the Twins should have done with players that they emotionally select but don't. I've advocated to trade Julien the last 2 yrs. but that won't happen so my only hope is moving Julien to 1B. If you think Julien is better than Castro & Lee, IMO even the Twins would start both ahead of Julien. But both Lee & Castro are not stable 2Bmen because they move around a lot & Lee's chronic back. Gasper hasn't impressed me at 2B but I haven't seen enough from him to say if he's better or worse than Julien. My main point isn't about if Julien is better or worse than those you mentioned we need a better 2Bman than Julien. But we need a good stable 2Bman & IMO is that Martin could be that guy if given a proper chance & I'm not suggesting 4+ years that they've given Julien. Yes, it seems futile to crusade about things with plenty of push back. I crusaded for years for the Twins to give up on Cave to be Buck's CF sub. To move Polanco off SS but eventually they did it.
  13. If you had read the 1st part, that you omitted. Everybody'd see that Julien was terrible defensively it doesn't matter if he was a little bit better offensively if he's a liability defensively. & as I stated before that defense is very important if you ignore it (especially up the middle) it'll come & bite you in the end. it cost NYY the WS.
  14. With France cemented at 1B, Twins' determination to play Julien at 2B, Castro moving around, with Lee, Lewis, Miranda & Correa all in doubt about how many games they can play this season; our INF defensive situation started out very fragile. With injuries to Lewis & Lee, we'd be forced to start the season with France at 1B, Miranda at 3B, Julien playing too much 2B & Correa at SS, yikes! Heaven forbid if Correa would have to miss games. NYY out-slugged LAD but LAD embarrassed NYY because their defense was lousy. Twins need to put more importance on defense. After acquiring Bader, Martin was no longer needed in the OF. We have (not counting Martin) 3 true CFers (2 RH & 1 LH) & 1 CFer (RH) Allen Cerda & cOFer (RH) Morales are not on the roster but had good STs. Injury to Gasper is very unfortunate but if it finally opens the door for Martin to go back to his natural position 2B & keeps Julien off there, it'll be a blessing in disguise. Julien had a terrible ST defensively & not that great offensively. Hopefully, Martin will prove himself at 2B & Lewis, Lee or even Gasper will come back soon so Julien can be sent down to AAA so he can further improve his offense & start to learn 1B.
  15. I am hoping very much for the Twins to wake up or even by mistake (much like Castro), do the right thing. Even with this very good core, I'm ready to give up hope if they don't.
  16. I've been ready for the ABS for a long time. Fairness should trump everything. Umpires are still needed & I'd the umps would appreciate not being continuously called dirty bums. If they don't have call strikes & balls they can focus on other things. I like the drama that comes from the challenge but when a hitter that has a good eye that keeps challenging & getting it right it makes the umps look bad & the umps don't like that. then there are batters that don't have a good eye & challenge strike outs & use up their 2 challenges very early. I've heard that umps tend to take revenge against those who make them look bad. from teams that use the challenge system. So I'd rather as before go right into the full ABS.
  17. Besides Gasper getting hurt, it was a pretty good game. Was that Gasper 1st ST HR? Ryan was impressive & the scrubs came through.
  18. Nothing has been said about Castellano except that he's not making the club after camp breaks. No DFA, no returning to PHI. Is there a trade being worked out? Because I think we could have continued with him until the end.
  19. Donaldson had calf problems before coming to MN. I'm not sure if he had calf problems with MN but he had problems with his hamstrings, due to over-compensating for his calves, Your back is part of your throwing process. It's not coincident that both Miranda & Kiriloff having shoulder problems & both coming down with back problems probably due to being coached to maximize their back motion to preserve their shoulders from further more severe shoulder problems after being moved off 1B/ DH to more arm demanding positions in order to keep their hot bats in the line-up. Julien & Gasper are both a liability at 2B. Keaschall is coming off surgery we have no idea when he'll be able to start to play 2B. He isn't on the 40 man so even if he's 100% healthy, he'll really have to blow the doors off to be considered to replace Martin. But if Julien & Gasper are our options then he'll be rushed. Again Martin isn't needed in the OF, it'd be a waste if they continue another poor choice about Martin.
  20. W/o Lewis & Lee, our INF is on very thin ice. We knew that before we started the season that Lewis, Lee & Correa were difficult to count on for the whole season. They had doubts whether Miranda could be healthy & be productive at 1B so to begin ST & beginning of the season they threw him at 3B because of course, 3B is much easier on his shoulder than 1B?????? (Not!!!!), In their concern to get Julien, Gasper & France in the INF they made our INF very fragile. Julien & France on the right side is a disaster waiting to happen. Just think in time Correa & or Miranda get hurt which is very likely, Where will we be? It was a big mistake to jam Martin in CF, which isn't his natural position. We already had 2 true RH CFers & 1 true LH CFer. 2B is a much greater need that Martin could easily fill because it's more his natural position. Twins should have abandoned hope with Julien at 2B a long time ago & had him learn 1B & hand 2B to Martin. Martin's hitting has been far below his potential, from being preoccupied with trying to master an unfamiliar & difficult position on its highest level. Keep Keirsey up & send Martin down to AAA to refamiliarize himself again at 2B & get his mojo back & bring him back up as soon as possible to cover 2B, Keep Julien at DH to mitigate the damage he'd do at 2B & when Martin is ready, send Julien down to AAA learn 1B, shift France to DH & Miranda to 1B. Martin could be the stabilizing force we need at 2B until Keaschall is ready to take it from him. But it takes forever for the Twins to admit a mistake & change for the good of the Twins.
  21. I was in favor & advocated last season, that Varland not waste his bullets in AAA to be a SP but be brought up & kept up as a RP. When he was brought up as a SP, he was unimpressive. Many short-sighted fans completely gave up on Varland, I have always seen Varland's value as a RP. IMO Varland could become a SP but his avenue is 1st via the BP.
  22. We really need Lee to stabilize 2B but like I've said all along with Lee's chronic back problem & the Twins need him to play the right side so to count on him to be the primary 2B is asking too much. Castro is needed as the utility player. That leaves Julien to man 2B to team up with France to cover the right side. Yikes!!!!!!!!! with Gasper as backup which isn't much better. Twins have 3 very good true CFers (2RH & 1LH) why force Martin at CF in the 1st place? Give those opportunities to Keirsey. In '23, Martin was left alone at basically 2B & did very well, a place where he's more natural at. Our greatest need is at fragil 2B, not CF. One more time give Martin a chance at 2B & see if his hitting turns around & give us some stability at 2B. If he can't hit in the short time left with ST, send him down to AAA (with Julien, who needs to learn 1B) to get his mojo back. & have Castro cover 2B until he does. With Lee's chronic back problem, he should be limited to INF utility & help out at 3B as much as possible now that Lewis is out. & hopefully, it's manageable.
  23. Strange way to break in a young pitcher.
  24. Lopez pitched a good game. But Wheeler against our B & C squad is no match. IMO our A squad would have needed the confrontation more.
