  1. I agree, health is the priority. I'm not certain that the Twins will reach the postseason, so why push Prielipp to get him to the bigs? If something changes & we find ourselves in the postseason, then we can have this discussion. I like the way they are handling Raya & Prielipp & wished they had started Canterino this way & maybe even keep him in the BP to try to keep him on the field.
  2. Even with Baldelli getting ejected, that wasn't enough to get the Twins going because they have no fire & chemistry. As I've said before, our OF is very deep, with our CFers Buck & Bader (RH) have been productive & healthy as well our cOFers (LH). Keirsey (LH) is our bench player, who is our safety net in case any of these get hurt or are unproductive. Even so, he's still valuable as a LH CFer to spell Buck against RHPs, a pinch runner or a defensive sub. He was used as a PR, he stole 2B, provided a spark, scored a run, became a defensive OFer & then was forgotten. Baldelli preaches about getting a running game going but refuses to put in players that make a difference. Still, Keirsey is a young player & needs playing time at the MLB level, which he won't get while Baldelli is around. On the other hand, Julien is a liability offensively, defensively, provides no spark on the basepath & needs to be sent down to AAA to finally adjust his swing & learn how to play 1B. We need more than Buxton to spark this dead team. We need Keirsey, Martin & Keaschall to inject new life into this dead team as much as possible. But running is against Baldelli, Tingler & Watkins's way of thinking so they have no idea & don't remember to do so.
  3. I've advocated every year since I don't know when. for plenty of long relief. IMO, short outings aren't unusual, especially early in the season.
  4. AAA Columbus is a very good team. Saints are too, with great starting pitching & hitters. But it seems that the Saints need better late-innings RPs to keep their early leads. Dobnak had a good game,
  5. The narrative is that the BP is gassed? The 2 pitchers to blame are Paddack who hasn't pitched that much but gave up 4 runs & Jax, who gave up 2 runs and has pitched the least in the BP. Varland, until recently, has been an SP, he also gave up 2 runs, but I don't think he was gassed. IMO, the problem was throwing him into the high-leverage dreaded extra innings "ghost runner" situation when he just started to be a RP, where he had no right of being. Could the BP be gassed in the near future & be the cause for a loss? Yes, but not this one. IMO, it'd be prudish if they bring up a couple of long RPs (Mathews & or Festa) to preserve the BP if the SPs can't even make it to 5 innings. Also Paddack should be considered for that role in the BP until he can show that he can go more than 3 quality innings.
  6. Coming back from a 7-1 deficit shows a lot of grit & a confidence booster. Losing a 7-1 lead destroys confidence & gives other teams hope that they come back & beat the Twins. This loss is bigger than what it looks on paper.
  7. You can't play this loose with a 7-1 lead. What's up with Jax? We need him to be tough!
  8. I don't put any stock in social media. Royce Lewis is a great player, I wouldn't want to change him. If he can limit his IL stints & still maintain his level of play he'll do it. I wouldn't want to change Buxton either, let them play their game & hope for the best,
  9. I've spoken enough about this but I'll add one thing. Baldelli heavily depended on Shelton his 1st year. He had Bell his 2nd year both traditional managers. IMO the balancing of these two aided greatly to the Twins. "Tingler drew major criticism for his in-game decision-making, bullpen usage and inconsistent batting orders." This was said about his firing from SD. SD was supposed to be a great team in '21 under Tingler, but the team collapsed. IMO, Tingler is too much like Baldelli & doesn't provide the needed balance.
  10. One can only hope that he can learn & make the necessary changes to pass as a 1Bman. If he can't handle 1B, how can we expect him to play 2B?
  11. Julien embraced the Twins' hitting approach & became the Twins' sweetheart. Jeffers made the adjustment away from this approach in '23, Larnach & Wallner (to some extent) has made that adjustment in '24. This approach aided in Julien's slugging success, but the league has taken this slugging advantage away. IMO, Julien hasn't adjusted successfully yet. He has tried to become more aggressive but he has chased too much. In ST, he looked like he had gotten better in hitting but his slugging was missing. Now, early this season, his hitting hasn't looked that good. His fielding at 2B has been sub-par but has now gotten worse. He has always profiled better at 1B. Now he needs to be sent down to AAA to finally learn how to play 1B, improve his hitting & slugging to justify him on the team.
  12. I'm just happy if Prielipp can stay healthy during this cold part of the season.
  13. Good pitching & Miranda showed up. Great game. Hope that it opens good things for Miranda.
  14. I think it's great that the Twins are working on situational hitting & running the bases more but most of the players that are good at those things aren't playing & those who aren't so good at it are. After focusing on the "all or nothing" approach in '24 ST & early slump, they changed their hitting approach with Popkins & turned the team around. IMO, the '24 late season crash was due to not obtaining early in the season an inning-eater SP to preserve the SPs & RPs, not trading for a high-leverage LHRP, injuries to Miranda & Kiriloff, the petering out of Lewis & Jeffers & the cratering of the team's chemistry & fire. Popkins & his crew was blamed for the Twins' woes. Funny that it seems that Popkins has turned the lapless TOR hitting around. There might be other reasons that Twins aren't doing so well early this season but one thing hasn't changed from last year's slumping & that is the team's lack of chemistry & fire that drove the team in '23.
  15. I've advocated for picking up the top catchers. Many say, "get the best player (usually a big college bat) & trade for our needs". But the Twins like to hoard their draft picks & put very little priority on catching, so that usually doesn't happen. So, my #1 pick is Luke Stevenson. Right now, Jamie has him at #17 overall. Stevenson is a mature, gifted young true defensive catcher, with some power & determination to get better in all aspects of the game; the Twins would be very lucky if Stevenson would fall in their laps because he'll be a high riser.
  16. Is Martin OK? He didn't play in the 2nd game. Soto is progressing very nicely. It's a great start to a new season. Never heard of Bengard. But I haven't been following the MiLB as much.
  17. Looking only at Margot, who is the main player in the trade. We lost a lot of money & games. Having him cemented on the roster & line-up had to be demoralizing to the young players & the team in general. Miller/ Doncon is debatable. Doncon is an average fielder & won't stick at SS. Our SS position depth is very shakey, IMO, giving up a gold glove, MLB-ready glove hurts. We have a lot 3Bmen, I doubt Doncon would ever make our MLB roster. Miller is just a few months older than Doncon & is in AA. IMO, I'd pick Miller over Doncon but either way Margot really killed us. LAD wanted to dump Margot, they easily won the trade by far. As I said at the trade. If LAD were eager to dump Margot & saw something in Miller, I trust their evaluation.
  18. Since the beginning of last season, there seems to be very little & diminishing fire & chemistry. Twins seem very little concerned about it & more concerned about their cold, hard analytics. Frustrating their players by not giving them a chance, moving them to unnatural positions, & etc. IMO, BOS has done the same thing this year. On paper, they looked really good by getting Bregman, but they failed to smooth things over with Devers 1st. People's feelings that generate fire & chemistry are ignored because they aren't included on the spreadsheet.
  19. In baseball, a .7 inch difference is hugh. A difference of hard contact to soft, a soft contact to foulball, a foulball to a SO. Hope the best for him.
  20. Like Correa, Miranda starts cold in the cold weather, cut them both some slack. Once he warms up, Miranda is a very good hitter; the main focus for the Twins is to keep him healthy. A job they haven't been doing so good at.
  21. Of the 3 options you gave #1 is the only acceptable one. Status quo is clearly not the answer & that's what options 2 & 3 are all about. I'd also be open for an option 4. Option 4 is Pohlads keep the Twins but shake up the management. I'd be open to keep Falvey where he is & let him influence the pitching but limit his control on everything else. I'd even be open in keeping Baldelli, but only as a bench coach, firing Tingler, Watkins & Conger. We need a baseball-smart FO that can hire a baseball-smart manager that brings in a crew that can properly evaluate, scout, draft & develop players to be MLBers while knows the need for analytics but allow his gut feelings & baseball-smarts rule; A FO who can properly evaluate our needs & is able to iniate & negotiate necessary trades, We are a mid-market team, copying NYY thinking that signing expensive FAs & adapting weird analytics while ignoring fundamentals like defense to drive this team has been foolhardy. Our solution is in player evaluation, development & trading, much like CLE has been doing. My suggestion is to bring back Andy MacPhail & have him mentor his son, Drew & have Drew take over when he's ready. IMO Joe Pohlads doesn't know how to even manage this team financially, so it's best for him to sell for whatever he can get & get out.
  22. MLB Trade Rumors had a poll: Who do you think will win the AL Central? MN was dead last behind CWS. Dead last! I guess that's how they were playing until now. Hope for some fire & better days.
