  1. If we had focused & obtained a dominating 2nd postseason SP, our rotation would look so much better, Varland would have been the piggyback option with Paddack. Lopez is a solid & dependable SP, if we lose him due to the hole in our rotation, it'd be a greater loss than losing Duran or Lewis. Ober's performance discourages hope of him becoming that #2 SP we need. Our problem has never been our #5 SP it's our gap at #2 I'm on the SWR train also but I'm impressed with Festa, Headrick & Dobnak so far (although Dobnak isn't the pitcher he used to be). We'll see how SWR does. I was hoping Canterino would develop into a SP but the way things look now, he might be destined to stay in the BP. If Raya & Lewis really turn it up at AA & get promoted to AAA early, they might get a shot at the show. But a dependable vet MiLB signing would be good insurance.
  2. Thanks, great job Jamie, This year's draft seems pretty weak compared to the last 2. We need more catching depth, I've been disappointed not drafting any decent defensive catching prospects in the past but we have a couple of good shots this year. MLB has Caleb Lomavita at 21 (Twins slot) and Jacob Covart you have listed at 38 while MLB has him at 80, he could be available when Twins draft 60. Covart is maybe the better defensive catcher although his arm isn't as strong as Lomavita's, he still has a very good pop time.
  3. Since Dobnak screwed up his finger, and lost his bowling ball sinker & that out-pitch slider, IMO there's really no hope for Dobnak. Dobnak was a great GB pitcher and with his new slider which created SOs & limit his pitches. Instead of slowly incorporating his new slider only when he occasionally needed it, the Twins wanted to transform him into a SO pitcher, throwing that new slider regularly. His finger couldn't take it & quickly lost control of the pitch & screwed up his finger. Unfortunately we lost a perfectly good SP.
  4. I agree with fatbat. When the Twins envisioned Martin as a slugging SS, social media was flooded with positive hype. Because Martin wasn't a slugging SS, a lot of negative hype flooded social media. Martin deserved neither, Martin is still pretty special, he's an OB machine, a good base runner & pretty good 2Bman, CFer & LFer. He proved to be a winner at Vanderbilt, mature, spunky & hungry. Like Lewis & Julien last season, Martin's talents will shine this season.
  5. I'm looking forward to see Miranda back up but that won't happen unless Santana goes down or Santana really sucks for a loooong time.
  6. I hate to see Lewis go down but I'm excited to see what Martin can do. Martin wasted his 1st couple of years with TOR & MN trying to make him into a power-hitting SS. When that didn't work out people labeled him as a poor INFer, Which is wrong because he plays a very good 2B. Because he didn't become that slugger, he dropped down the prospect hierarchy. What matters is not HRs but results, which means not striking out in the clutch but getting on base and making a walk, single, or double into a double or triple. Martin is an OB machine plus his speed makes him an ideal lead-off hitter, the best lead-off hitter we could have since a very long time. I thought Martin should have broke with the team had Margot not been obtained & blocked his path & time in the OF. All the best, Austin!
  7. I don't get it either, Martin should be focused in the OF (where he needs more time), that's where our need is at, we already know he's very good at 2B, Because he's listed at INF, that's where they are focusing him at.
  8. I think Lewis's injury might signal to Correa & especially Buxton to probably tone it down a little at the beginning of the season to make sure their body can take that extra burst.
  9. Farmer at 3B & Martin platoon at 2B
  10. IMO it's close, IMO Farmer can handle the smokers better yet Castro has more range. If Farmer is primary 3Bman then Martin is brought up. Martin would do a great job at 2B & hitting lead-off against LHPs but in the long haul Martin is more needed in the OF, the Twins have failed to give him the needed experience out there. I was torn between bringing Martin or not as writing this post I decided because Margot has blocked Martin, Martin can take a break and play some 2B. Therefore I'd stick with Farmer as primary 3Bman & have Castro fill in.
  11. The fire was evident from the beginning but he has matured beyond his years, some people never mature. Lewis would want to play tomorrow but I'm sure they'll take all the time that's necessary to protect him.
  12. Great pitching performance by Lopez & clutch hitting by Lewis & Correa. A good start. let's keep it going. A speedy recovery for Lewis.
  13. I'd trade any of the other prospects & most anyone off our roster before I'd trade Lee, he is too valuable to our INF.
  14. It seems the strikes & balls calling is favoring Ragans
  15. The 1st game is just as important as the last IMO. Especially with Ragan pitching it should be a close game and the absence of Duran & Thielbar IMO the best line-up on the field will keep the pressure off the BP. Also the 1st game sets the tone.
  16. I'd like our best line-up on the field. So I'd like Vazquez at catcher batting 9th, Jeffers at DH batting 2nd is fine. Margot hasn't shown much to deserve being in the line-up. Go Twins!
  17. Buxton under 2 WAR is very negative & IMO improbable whereas Buxton gaining at least 4 WAR is more probable. I don't doubt Royce Lewis potential that he has a good chance of making All-Star. I'd even say he is a dark horse for MVP.
  18. I'm excited about some of our prospects, especially Lee & Martin & some pitchers like Festa, Canterino & even Raya could see some time if he turns it on & there's a need. Carmargo should see some time hopefully not much, because although he has an arm he's not that good defensively. Carmargo is the byproduct of the Twins' neglect of defense & focus on big bat/ high SOs at the premium position. Competitive teams acknowledge the importance of defense at the catching position.
  19. Polanco was a rock star when he started '19. He was the favorite for MVP & maybe would have won it if he had the ankles to play SS. If he had started at 2B like Lee, his stats would have been much better. IMO the comps are similar except Lee can play 3B much better.
  20. I'm happy to see Baldelli going from only 1 & done RPs (burning out the BP which in turn burns out the rotation) to a little more long relief which helps the pitching staff healthier going into the postseason and contributes to our last season's success. I appreciate analytics but I like more gut reactions to go with it. I really don't like the 1B coaching combined with catching. The catching coach should be focused & dedicated to only catching. IMO way too much attention is given to 1B & way too little is given to catching. IMO a good catching coach knows everything about catching & nothing about 1B.
  21. Me too, & cut way down on his SOs, more so.
