  1. I don't have a lot of confidence in Stashek or Thorpe. When I did roster projection had Twins adding 2 mid level relief pitchers, still hoping for one. There are a few in minors that may break through to MLB this year. Would like to see Twins break starters in MLB bullpen from minors. May see a more non-traditional approach to one or two starting spots-like 3 inning opener followed by 2-3 inning long reliever this year from Twins.
  2. At this point, looking like Pineda, Ober, Bundy, Ryan, Dobnak to start year. I would rather start with that than sign some Shoemaker, Happ, Bailey types, already have Bundy. Let the young pitchers work their way into the rotation/BP.
  3. I am all for a nontraditional approach. Would like to see plenty of young pitchers get an opportunity at MLB level next year.
  4. Very frustrating and disheartening as fan that negotiations will just sit another month with no serious discussions. Too bad back has to be against the wall to get anything done.
  5. I know they have a long way to go, just getting drafted out of high school, but looking forward to watching Noah Miller and Chase Petty's progress.
  6. Nice blog cjm, prospects are difficult to project future success. Part of present Twins problems with pitching now is that none of these tp 15 prospects are contributing at the MLB level. Hoping present crop of prospects especially the pitchers have more success.
  7. Another illustration of how hard it is to be successful at the MLB level. I think the MLB exposure will help Larnach in the long run. Should start season in AAA and gain some confidence. I look for Larnach to make the adjustments and develop into a solid MLB player.
  8. I expect Celestino to develop into back up CF/4th OF/late inning defensive replacement type of player. With Buxton, always need a solid plan B for CF.
  9. I would say no to Rodon, too much injury risk and too expensive. I prefer Pineda and a trade for SP.
  10. Miranda has played significant time at 2B, Helman more of an OF but some time at 2B, Bechtold probably more of a 3B and trying C also. Will be interesting to see how Twins place players in minors to start year.
  11. Trade for a SP, sign Pineda-none of the other FA SP left excite me, FA reliever, FA SS. Rotation to start year would be-Traded for SP, Pineda, Bundy, Ober, Ryan. Still have Dobnak, Winder is close to being ready, Duran may be better suited for BP, along with 4-6 other legitimate SP prospects close to being ready. Really need a SS, in this scenario Twins could afford Story. I am not confident Lewis or any of the other Twins prospects will end up at SS.
  12. In 2019 MLB payrolls totaled just over 4,000,000,000 averaging somewhere around 134.000,000 per team. If they set the min. payroll at 125,000,000, and max at 225,000,000, the average would surely be higher than 134,000,000 and more money going to the players. Players want to reduce revenue sharing because they think owners are cutting payroll and pocketing the profits, if have min. payroll would help solve that. Revenue sharing is only way to help level playing field for teams, Pittsburg will never be able to generate the revenue Yankees do. Is this realistic at this point, probably not, but hope things at least move in this direction this CBA.
  13. The difference between where things should be to have a fair competitive system is too large to get there in one step. The owners don't want to give up what they have, they are making too much money. But to me they are being a little short sighted, granted the pie is of finite size and they don't want to reduce the size of their portion. But if they make the game fairer and level the playing field for all teams, the size of the pie would grow and even if they had less of a portion, they would make more money. Start making moves to get to a more level playing field for all teams-increased revenue sharing, hard max. salary cap,, min. salary level for teams, I would like to see a salary max. contract like in NBA, doubt if present player reps would be in favor of that.
  14. Disappointed with amount of "negotiating" that happened, seems each sided decided lock out was necessary. Sure there will be a month or so of a staring contest before anything moves toward a resolution. The amount of team control before FA seems to be a big issue to me. No other sport allows up to 10 years of team control before FA (4 years if signed at 18 yo, 3 years service time, 3 more years in arbitration), This and disparity of spending between top and bottom payrolls. The owners don't want change in these areas but present system is unsustainable.
  15. I am thinking Kepler, Gordon will be CF back ups to begin year, with Celestino at AAA continuing to develop. Hoping Twins only sign SS as position player-need pitching.
  16. Great blog, cmj. The Twins have plenty of prospects that look the part coming up in MiLB. Will be interesting to see their development. With so many pitching prospects nearing MLB, may limit Twins signing of FA pitchers especially to longer term contracts. I don't look for Twins to contend next year, so hope plenty of these prospects get opportunity to see what they can do at MLB level.
  17. Seth lists 54 players in article, would hope they will make up vast majority of AAA and AA rosters this year. May loose a couple to rule 5 draft. Seems Twins are conservative when it comes to promoting players within the system. If Baddoo had not been drafted to Tigers last year, he probably would have started at high A and moved to AA at midseason in the Twins system. I don't see Twins as contenders next year, too many holes to fill and no confidence FO will do what it takes to fill those holes. If contender good to have some MLB experienced players at AAA for depth, don't want to rely on rookie in case of injury. But Twins need to develop their prospects, use the players they have for depth. Palacios good example, need emergency SS at AAA, he is a good fit why sign another JT Riddle type.
  18. There will be plenty of prospects at AAA this year that will be ready for opportunity at MLB. Could have 6-man rotation out of Balazovic, Duran, Winder, Sands, Jax, Strotman, or Barnes at St. Paul. Should be able to give any of these a short term callup to give someone some extra rest. Tired of Twins signing so many proven to be borderline MLB pitchers, Twins need to see what their upper-level prospects can do at MLB level.
  19. These veteran pitchers have may a lot of money over the years. Money will not be the issue where they end up. They will sign with who they want to sign with. Have a hard time seeing Twins on short list of options for these pitchers.
  20. Would love to see Twins sign Gray. He checks all the boxes for me, good upside, reasonable salary range, relatively young. Predictions say 4/56.
  21. Of 12 players listed, I hope 7 are gone for sure, 2 maybes , and want 3 back with Twins. Gant and Garza maybes, hope Rooker, Dobnak, and Jax back.
  22. Thanks Seth and Bailey., enjoyed the interview.
  23. Don't know if he qualifies since highly rated prospect, but would love to see Lewis breakout.
  24. I looked back at the Twins drafts to 2012. 2012 was great first 2 rounds-Buxton and Berrios, next 3 years first 2 rounds terrible- out of 6 players drafted only Gordon still with Twins. Twins definitely showing lack of draft success in past this year, especially pitching. The 2012 to 2015 drafts should be the core of the Twins staff by now. Looking at the drafts incredible how many don't make MLB. I was wondering if anyone has stats on how many draftees per team eventually make MLB. The Twins drafts, not only were first 2 round disappointing, but few successes past the first 2 rounds also. Definite trend to draft college players, think Twins only took 2 HS players this year.
