Twins better do something quick. 3 games in and losing attention span. Seems like a continuation from the 2nd half of last season.

What? The man was a wizard with the bat, a marvel in the field, and has never been whispered in PEDs conversations. The man was known by only his FIRST name. 20 years from now when we look back at his career, we will be sad we didn't pay better attention to the incredible things he did on the field. There aren't 10 other players worthy of being voted in before him on any ballot, and I'd argue he is within the 10 best ever elected into the HOF.

Sadly, (for the Twins) his fate will be playing out his arbitration and hitting free agency. It will have to go down as a success for finding a cheap player and maximizing his skills. Because of our newfound salary cap, we won't be able to sign him with a cheaper Julien needing 2nd. I'm not sure why but I always enjoyed watching Castro with the Tigers. He always seemed to get a clutch hit against us. I was excited to see when we had signed him and a little baffled at why the Tigers gave up on him. It is awesome to see him flourish and I hope he gets a large contract somewhere. He seems like a pretty good dude for deserves it!

Twins should sign Pete Alonso next year
baul0010 replied to C-Gangster's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
We don't need Pete eating what little salary we will have next year. We will put Miranda at 1st if Lewis stays healthy and will have a great infield. Pitching is still (and seems likely to always be) the weak link.- 30 replies

Time to fire the head trainer!!! Wait, we did that last year.

I used to hate everything about Trevor Bauer. However, it does seem like he has turned a corner as far as his immaturity goes. From all accounts, teammates like him, he's a hard worker, and his stuff will still play. I know he had some legal issues, but that seems to have cleared. Since he is looking for a low risk deal from a team with incentives, why isn't he an option? He could be the man we need to step into the number 2 role that Gray vacated. I know I must be missing something since no team seems to want to touch him with a 10 foot pole. At least from my limited knowledge of his situation, it appears he's paid his dues.

Twins 2024 Position Analysis: Third Base
baul0010 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have been rooting for Lewis since the minute he was drafted. I still think his physical talents are not being utilized at 3rd base. With his speed and agility, SS and CF make the most sense. I don't want him back in the outfield again!!! I would like to see him at 2nd base with Correa at SS. At least he'd still be up the the middle defensively and we'd eventually have Lee who would be good to excellent at 3rd.- 42 replies

What's Left in Pitching Free Agency for the Twins?
baul0010 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would like Keller as a minor leaguer who we could possibly covert to a reliever. I'm sure he doesn't want to make that transition if he's still available in free agency.- 84 replies

I like the thought but those two salaries gone could've gotten the Twins to a range where a number 2 or 3 starter could have been had. I think the relative value to adding a better starting pitcher vs. what Anthony DeScalfani would give us would be better than the drop off between Vasquez/Farmer VS. Camargo/Lee.

I can do that.... But, all bets are off as of tomorrow afternoon!

Twins A Finalist for Utility-man Kiké Hernandez's Services
baul0010 replied to wiguy94's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Even if Farmer was gone, I'd rather not sign him. -
That is an interesting take. I guess we just have differing opinions of overall success of a well run franchise. Since 2011 we have had 1 59 win season, 3 60-69 win seasons, 4 70-79 win seasons, 3 80-89 win seasons, an equivalent to a 90+ win season (2020) and 1 100+ win season. That is 8 below .500 seasons and 5 above .500 season, while scraping out only 3 division titles in 13 years.

Blue Jays Turning Away Alek Manoah Trade Offers
baul0010 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
That is what I was just thinking. I think it would be a great idea to pick up Manoah, but was thinking what it would realistically take to get him. How high would you be willing to go to pick up someone with a pretty good track record when right, but very bad when not? I don't think I'd be willing to give up anything in our top 10 prospects but would consider Kala'i Rosario, Canterino, and something near our 25 to 30 prospect to pick up Manoah. I'm not sure two top 10 to 15 prospects and a lower level prospect would get it done. -
Carlos Santana stole 6 bases last year? I wouldn't have made a bet that he's stolen 6 bases his entire career. Good for the big fella. I'm glad everyone says he's a great clubhouse presence, but at 38, and with the breakthrough season we had last year, I was expecting more. From early comments it seemed the TV/streaming deal was going to be better than previous years. It's not. I understand the loss of tv revenue put a lot on hold, but the Twins had to know we'd at least have a portion of money recouped. The total lack of anything important this off-season has been very uninspiring. I hope all the momentum built last year continues because it was such a fun year. I don't want to go back to disappointment.

That would be an awesome infield to watch. I wouldn't mind Lewis at 2nd and Julien at first. May make the defense really good.

The problem with NEW money is that it is not going to be the 55mil we were collecting from Bally's in 2023. If the Twins had any thoughts that this would or could still be the case we wouldn't be slashing payroll and sitting on our hands all offseason. If we are playing everything is like last year, then I'm all for Hoskins and disappointed they let Gray walk in free agency.
-
What is the new money we are talking about? I haven't seen anywhere regarding a when, how much, how long, a broadcasting contract could be. I agree, we lost over 200 innings of very good ERA from 2 starters. I'd rather fill in first base/DH with what we have currently. We are going to need 2 pitchers to step up into levels they haven't pitched too, then other pitchers to take their places. That will be a tall order for internal options only.
