  1. Well said - thank you also to Jamie, Brock, and Seth as well. I have enjoyed your work.
  2. Yes, I agree that it will take 2-3 players to get Montas or Castillo. However, the farm system exists to develop future major league athletes or serve as players used to trade for the needs of the MLB roster. The Twins need a couple of relief pitchers and Castillo/Montas would be icing. When individuals get too concerned about a glut of position players, consider that some teams see value in a trade. Hopefully we read about some moves during the break, but certainly Falvey should make a few trades before August 1. The first day of the draft was amazing in my view and Jeremy was right on when he noted that Carlos Correa was our choice for the third round. Correa is already showing value rarely found at that pick too.
  3. The Twins have to be totally amped at their Day 1. Yes, Correa was a good pick too and that was an accurate note to add for yesterday's choices. Second the amazing coverage provided by Jeremy for Twins Daily readers; excellent work.
  4. An exciting pick. I have high hopes for him and would have been ok with Prielipp at #8, until Brooks Lee fell into the Twins lap. These two have a chance to be playing at Target Field in two or three years. Porter must have let teams know he wanted to go to college because he was not drafted.
  5. A switch hitter with a great hit tool that can play on the dirt - excellent choice.
  6. Agree with an apparent consensus that CF is covered decently and not really a pile of riches, but it always depends on what anyone/teams want in return for what the Twins seek.
  7. Always liked Bell but, no. Montas is worth a shot as is Castillo but I'm still hoping for a couple of relief pitchers.
  8. Thank you for doing such a fine job with this series. It has been informative, interesting, and fun. Being a little bit of a baseball geek, I was/am familiar with all of the top players but certainly found all of the writing to be engaging and worth every second. Every time I watch Kershaw I'm hoping the Twins find a gem and this makes me call out names like Lesko and Porter above the bats. Sunday should be fun for these kids and us.
  9. Lesko or Porter, please. Wait, if Brooks Lee falls, take him.
  10. Great work and good reading too. The draft is always fun and the research of players a hobby of mine. Baseball is a difficult sport to hit on draft choices. If the top four and Collier are gone at #8, I'm in for Dylan Lesko.
  11. The Twins are decent - they have as good of a shot as St. Louis, Right now the New York teams, the Dodgers, and the Astros are the best teams in baseball. I'm open to getting some help from a pitcher already in the system, like Canterino, but will leave that to the team's evaluators. The Twins are not going to trade from their MLB roster and they can absolutely afford the loss of a couple of prospects. We all know that Falvey will not "gut the farm." Right? So, let's do something. Robertson, as an example would be something. He may not be the answer and I would not give up a major piece for him but I also doubt the Cubs will ask for the moon either. The Twins could have gambled on either Graveman or Kniebel but took a lotto on Pagan and Paddack. No problem but now Falvey can make a move or two and attempt to make the team stronger again, hopefully with better results.
  12. A pitcher might be a good choice at #8, but if choosing an arm happens I'm going for Dylan Lesko.
  13. The argument that the Twins are not serious contenders requires the recognition that other teams such as the Yankees and Houston, for two examples, are superior and have better odds of winning in the postseason. I think that is true. The 1987 and 1991 Twins? Atlanta last year? Any team begins their run by getting into the postseason. Even the Dodgers and Yankees have to win some regular season games before they are eligible to be the favorites to win a World Series. The Twins have a decent team, they have a host of prospects that can potentially fetch a favorable return, and Falvey will not sell the farm. Understanding this, it is the job of every front office to complete transactions to improve their team and right now the Twins need two relief pitchers.
  14. Jeffers, Kirilloff, Miranda, Arraez, Gordon, Celestino, and the injured Larnach and Lewis are all young players supported by some talented veterans in Polanco, Correa, Buxton, Urshela, and Sanchez. Young pitchers include Ryan, Winder, Ober, Duran, and Jax. Gray, Archer, Smeltzer, and Bundy along with a few relievers have done decent. The Twins are showing they can compete with other good teams on a regular basis this year. It has been fun to date.
  15. Catchers need some time to learn the pitchers usually and there is no reason to trade for Contreras because he will want to go through the free agent process for sure. If the Twins want they can get in the bidding for Contreras in the offseason. Leave the catching alone for now and focus on pitching.
  16. The post and comments are why the Twins should consider trading a few prospects for relief help or make/ put together a sweet package for Luis Castillo.
  17. Lee should be gone by #8, but he would be the pick if available.
  18. The thing is that many folks on TD, yourself included, fear the loss of the "Pipeline" or "All of the teams best prospects" or just losing prospects in general. The Twins are not going to trade MLB players or the injured Lewis. This leaves a host of promising but unproven prospects, none of which rate among the top 100 in the game. The Twins can and should trade any 2-5 minor league players to acquire players to help this year. I cannot think of any player from the Twins system, other than Emmanuel Rodriguez, who should be protected. All of this also understands that Derek Falvey has not made any trades to acquire a player in season worth mentioning and we can all agree that he is not going to trade 4-7 of the teams top 10 prospects. He is likely to be open to some moves this July given the youth at the MLB level. Falvey needs to act, it is that simple. As far as winning goes, we should agree that this team is more fun than last year's squad. Nothing is guaranteed in the postseason and Twins fans need to get over/drink away their angst of the record losing streak in October. Having been a Twins fan since 1961, my preference is for competitive teams that get a shot as opposed to the never ending rebuilding models. I would rather watch the Twins lose again in the playoffs than watch them lose 90-110 games. They have a chance but need a couple of players to be better. If Canterino can replicate Duran in his initiation to MLB in late July, I'm good with that too. The current pitchers aren't the answer though which means it is Falvey Time.
  19. I'm still hoping for Dylan Lesko at #8.
  20. Fair question. Just a hunch that the balanced schedule along with the emergence of some highly rated prospects on several teams make the field more competitive for the Twins going forward. The trades I would hope for would bring in some players that could contribute now and in the future. I'll leave it to Falvey to do the damage but the Twins have youth on their MLB roster which should allow them latitude as to which minor league players to move.
  21. Analytics are fun in the way they attempt to quantify everything but life and baseball don't always fit on to those statistical sheets. I'm pro analytics but more pro experience and the result will tell you that a good base runner who can steal a bag does have some impact on a pitcher. A guy who takes the extra bag is important. The ability to score from second base on a single or go first to third adds up over a season but would be difficult to tie down. Kepler, Polanco, and Buxton are good base runners but the Twins do not have them stealing bases for various reasons. Most of the other Twins are not very good at running the bases but their youth may be a factor. Good base running is important but less important than good fielding.
  22. The goal of any trade, for me, is to increase the talent on the current team. Kepler stays in that mode of thought. Ober has frustrated me with his injuries. He still projects to be a better pitcher than anyone in the minor leagues and so while I'm willing to trade Ober in the right deal, my preference is to move minoe league players. Lewis and E. Rodriguez are off the table, but all others are fair game. The 2023-2025 Twins would not be harmed by trading 3-6 prospects. The future is largely already on the roster or injured..
  23. The New York Yankees traded a reliever for a top prospect, Gleybar Torres. The Twins don't have anyone who is in the category that Torres was at that time. The Cubs would do that trade for that little relief pitcher they acquired every single time. There wasn't any guarantee then and there aren't any now either. The Twins need some (two) relievers. Falvey isn't going to trade Lewis or anyone on the MLB roster. A trade should be accomplished.
