    I am not saying he should be resigned for 2022, but I don’t quite understand all the dislike for Simmons. He was not signed for offense, as he has not ever really contributed much of that even in his prime. He does make the infield defense better. Consider that he has played with two poor (Arraez, Austudillo) fielders, two ok (Polanco, Sano) fielders and a gimpy Donaldson.

    It might be a minority opinion, but I don’t see any Twins minor league pitching options that would have to see the majors this year. The best arms are either injured, coming off injuries or frankly have not been all that awesome. Moran might be the exception, but he has barely even pitched at AAA

    I agree with a lot of this other than the percentages. I see it as more Simmons/FA 90%, Palanco 5%, Palacios 5%.

    Miranda played left field last night, perhaps they are trying him as a utility player. (Austudillo replacement?). It will really surprise me if the Twins let Simmons walk and don’t replace him with a free agent.

    I could be wrong, but it sure seems to me that the Twins do not view Polanco, Gordon, Martin or Miranda as major league options at SS, other than as possible spot starters. Not sure they should even be considered as options to fill this role at this point.

    Small sample size?? The guy has been pitching in the majors for how many years?? The facts suggest that he has never pitched worse in the majors than in his stint with the Twins. It may be prudent for the organization to ask why that is.

    I would think that he will be the starter in LF opening day next year. Sure, he has struggled as a rookie, but so have a lot of others. It is all about getting better now. The Twins are doing the right thing by playing him regularly in the majors the rest of the year.

    There are many instances of players being cut loose by one organization, only to find success with another. As to the question if he should be on the roster or not? My answer would be no, because he doesn’t seem to be able to throw his off speed for strikes enough. But I thought this was supposed to be the season of trying some guys out???

    So if Hamilton, Canó and Moran get the call up and struggle right away out of the gate, do they get DFA’d also?

    Hopefully the plan is to build a bullpen with some proven major league proven arms. Moran and some of the others that have shown some success can battle for the 7th and 8th spot or continue to hone their skills in St Paul

    If horrible infield defense is the glimpse of next years possibilities that you want to see, doing as you suggest is definitely the way to go.

    That would be great role for him next year. Chances are he plays LF better than Rooker already.

    Has Gordon played any SS since being called up? I don’t recall. That would be the main reason.

    Trading 3 important regular starters (when healthy) and the only one late inning bullpen option from the current roster would not be the direction I would go with this team.

    I suspect these 5 will all cost more than the Twins should invest. What sense does it make anyways to spend top dollar on a guy that pitches 5 innings every 5 days? Spend the money on the bullpen instead.

    Was it the 6 runs, 4 walks and 2 home runs he gave up that make him ready for a promotion?

    A. They got good value in the trades they made. And I won’t fault or speculate on trades not made, maybe there just was no real interest in them.

    Maybe he was gonna be pulled anyways, but the Twins had runners in the corners and two outs so he was pitch hit for.

    It would not surprise me one bit if both Shoemaker and Happ are effective pitchers for another team next season.

    I suspect when Refsnyder is ready Celestino will get sent down. With Larnach staying up, for now anyways.
