  1. Several observations 1. The Twins are 10 runs scored away from being tied for top scoring team in the league. 2. Our bullpen is currently 6 deep in terms of competence from the relievers, Staumont, Duran, Jax, Sands, Alcala, and barely Okert. Stewart is 7 and he should be back soon, probably after the all-star break. and we still have depth and Varland (I think we may acquire a reliever at the deadline but what do I know). 3. I think our defense has been better too. I don't hear too many negatives about it 4. Festa pitched better than his record shows. He only walked one and made it through 5 innings in both of his starts. He had 4 bad pitches that resulted in HRs against him which is a lot in 10 innings. otherwise, he likely would have given up less than half the runs he did. This tells me he is close. 5. Woods-Richardson has been a rotation savior. Ober and Paddacks ERA is slighted by a few bad starts. They have pitched mostly better. we just have to hope we get the good results in the playoffs. I am surprised by Lopez pitching so poorly this year. 6. Our deficit with Cleveland is from the 7-13 start when we had several injuries and slumps at the same time. Cleveland will likely go through a patch like this too. NY is now. It will be fun to watch the rest of the season.
  2. With his hot streak the last 6 weeks or so definitely helps his value. Hopefully he can keep it up and end up a .75-.80 OPS+ type offense for the season and he keeps up with his defense. There is planning and communication and setting up the pitchers that isn’t quantifiable so it’s hard to peg a value there. He is a popular player in the clubhouse so his work is recognized by his teammates. If he isn’t worth the contract he is probably not off by as much as we the fans might think. 🤔
  3. You’re trading for the reliever for their performance in the playoffs. We have to win 11 games or so to get the prize.
  4. Our biggest need is the bullpen and maybe 6th starter. Brock and Topa could fix the pen but acquiring a good arm like Chapman or Yates would really help. Also converting Varland to the pen as well. I’m not sure what to do about the rotation. I don’t think we will pay the cost to get a top of rotation starter and our rotation is ok and if we stack the pen is where our playoff advantage comes from. we don’t need to get hitting. I don’t know who we trade maybe trade Kepler but I suspect we keep him.
  5. Larnarch had a decent finish to last season too. He never really seemed that far from being a solid hitter. I would think he will have more competition next season with Walner and ERod about ready. He may be traded by next trade deadline or after next season. We have several other OF who are working their way up the minors too.
  6. I was thinking we have several fringe all-star caliber players who could be an all-star. Jax, Ryan from the pitching staff. Miranda, Santana, or Jeffers or possibly Buxton if he is still top of the class defensively in CF. I wouldn't think all of these players but maybe 1 other.
  7. The All Star rosters were announced and I am surprised that only Carlos Correa was named on the Twins and he is a backup. Such a surprise for the 4th best record in the AL.
  8. I was going to mention that we traded for Johan. But many just say we would have just drafted him had the deal not been worked out in advance. when talking about all time great rule 5 picks you gotta bring up Shane Mack. That guy hit like Miranda is hitting now. Pressley is right behind these guys and ahead of Scott Diamond. He was a highly successful pick for sure. Too bad it costs 10 million to keep him on the team or he might still be here at half that cost. (From the Twins perspective not Pressley’s)
  9. If he was still slumping, I would be on the DFA Margot bandwagon but he stepped up and is producing. Let’s ride his hot streak and see where he’s at before we go back to DFA. He is close to career norms now.
  10. We should totally dump the guy for a slump he had back in April. The .899 OPS he had in June and is carrying forward now has no place on the team because of how he hit during the first month or so of the season.
  11. Where does Farmer sit on the list? one thing that helps Castro is his speed. I wonder how many extra hits and doubles he was able to squeak out because of his speed.
  12. Ted your on a roll like Miranda. That’s like 6 good articles in a row. Have you been taking writing lessons from Nick Nelson? Keep it up. 👍 I agree that if the Twins do make a trade it would be for a reliever. JD Martinez is the only impact bat that wouldn’t cost much dollar wise that would be an upgrade to the lineup. I’m sure there are others. But not many. I’m it sure who the Twins would target in that group but if we got Jansen then Velazquez would have to be included in that trade and maybe Dobnak too. I doubt the Reds sell Cruz they are close to the end of their rebuild. Their rotation is shaping up if they stay healthy and take a step forward next season. Yates is a good option. for Mason Miller I wonder if we could build a package around the OF we got from the Mariners, Funderburk or Sands and Raya or Culpepper and if need be a low a flyer. I would do that trade.
  13. I think the thought process is he will have a better shot at extending his streak against a starting pitcher tomorrow after he gets some rest after the game vs hitting against Hader who we didn’t know was going to implode
  14. Once the Twins scored 12 in the 9th to beat Cleveland 13-12. It was in the early 2000s. Josie played a big part of the comeback if I remember correctly.
  15. Yes but with Garcia you kind of have to because he was only here a week and then traded. We ended up in the playoffs so that trade could technically be a buy trade. You still have to consider what we got vs what we gave up. And I forget what we got when we traded Garcia away but we need to include that when considering the trade to get him to begin with
  16. Only 2 of those trade were really significant in terms of cost to us. Lopez and Mahle trades. I cant fault the Mahle trade at all. it was a solid trade with prospects that were redundant in our system. On Jaime Garcia trade we should also include the sell since we only kept him that one start so the return on trading him should also count against what we gave up to get him.
  17. After going a generation since we had Gagne as our last competent SS. It’s nice to have an all star caliber player for the foreseeable future there. I think Correa was the best because he will age out of his contract so much better than the others.
  18. I didn’t like the López trade from the beginning but I had misplaced hope. all I’m saying is Mahle still did better than others traded at the deadline. Montas was worse and probably who we would have traded for if not for Mahle. I didn’t like trading Steer in the deal either. But I see 3 different ways to grade this trade. 1. How good was the deal at the time of the trade. 2. How was this trade compared to other deadline deals? 3. How did the players ultimately perform after being traded? On 1. It’s a B for me. 2. Is a C and 3. Is a D. So I’m going to agree with your stance on the deal. I think if you hated this deal you are inclined to be most likely grading on 3.
  19. I would grade the Mahle trade much better. He wasn’t injured when we got him. He was pitching well when he pitched. He did better than Montas who was traded to the Yankees. In fact most of the deadline deals that year didn’t work out if I remember correctly. I say Montas because I bet he was the other pitcher we were likely trying to get. on Dyson I would rate that trade as a non factor for either team. No one got anything from that trade. The López trade was a loser because of our failure to develop Cano and Povich should be a solid back if rotation pitcher.
  20. The Twins have 5 solid starters right now: 1. Lopez 2. Ryan 3. Ober 4. Paddack 5. Woods-Richardson We even have Festa and Varland as back up starters Why do we need a starter exactly? At best I can see us acquiring a reliever or maybe a backup OF to replace Margot. I doubt the Twins are willing to add much to payroll at the deadline. If anything, I can see them shopping Farmer, Margot or Velazquez to cut payroll back a little.
  21. If we acquired Jansen, we would be on the hook for almost 6 million. I doubt we are picking up salary in season. Maybe if we were on pace to draw 2.75 million fans give or take. So we would have to give up salary or better prospects with Boston sending cash in the deal to make it happen. The question is what do we have to give up to get him? Would Varland straight up get us Jansen and cash to pay down salary? Would we need to add a low level prospect in the deal. from Bostons perspective they may be trying to take advantage of the market with so many teams still potential buyers. for the record my vote is to pass thou I am open to a value deal for us.
