  1. DeBarge = Sonny Gray and also = Berrios since he was picked close to the same slot and lastly = El DeBarge the 80’s pop singer with same name. So I’d like to see 4 or 5 borderline all star seasons out of Debarge before he hits free agency so he can be comparable in this company. Is Amick any good defensively? His power seems legit, does he strike out too much or get on base well? Im assuming Culpepper will be a .260 hitter with 15-20 HR power and around 10 stolen bases in the majors. I hope he is good defensively at SS cause at some point we will need another good one to step in for a while.
  2. Blewett practically pitched a starters load last time out. I would think he needs another day. He might be available for an inning. But I would hold him back o e more day if I could if I’m the manager. That leaves Castillo Theilbar and Tonkin in a 9 man bullpen.
  3. If we go 15-10 the rest of the way, we are back to a 90 win team. If we go 10-15 we are an 85 win team and that leaves the door open for Detroit, Boston or Seattle to accidentally get hot and finish with 86 wins and us missing the playoffs. I think 12 more wins will do the job. But it feels like a good playoff team should win 90 at minimum. we’ve known all year that we have a good playoff roster so it’s a matter of max health and last week or so preparation for the returning injureds. It will be fun to watch 🍿😎🥤
  4. Does Velazquez resurgence rank yet? My three are 1. Woods-Richardson 2. Santana 3. Sands. Then Miranda then Larnarch then Alcala (you can swap Sands and Miranda if you want) but I had no expectations for Sands while I believed if his shoulder was sound and he worked out the rust that Miranda could be similar to what he is now. His average is higher than expected. I believed in Jax and Castro. I didn’t expect the all star for Castro. Since we are keeping Buxton and Correa long term, a three year 24-30 million evenly distributed (front loaded contract extension) makes sense for Castro.
  5. Royce Lewis knocked in his 100th career RBI today. He has 458 career AB. Is that the fewest ABs to 100 RBI in Twins history? for more fun he has 33 HRs as well.
  6. Would it be better to let Walter Jenkins spend the last week of the season in AA or should he finish the season in High A? I think Cedar Rapids has a playoff spot. I could be wrong. but getting to see what AA is like going into the offseason could be beneficial too. just wondering your thoughts,
  7. he got stabbed after leaving a strip club in San Diego.
  8. At least Cleveland and KC both lost or are losing today at this time.
  9. Buxton should be back soon. He should not be out the rest of the year. If he is back in time for the Kansas City series that would be a boost. Kansas City lost 1 of their 3 big run producers so they are going to have issues the rest of the way. if Correa is out till the last week the whatever but the real key after getting Buxton back is gettin grand Slam Lewis going again too. Having one hitter out on our team is not a big deal having 3 of our top hitters out or slumping hurts a lot. overall I feel good about our chances. The pitching is good as are Festa and Zebby. Varland needs to be in the pen now. Really we just need that one more shut down reliever once we get Buxton back and Lewis out of his slump.
  10. Kansas City offense is largely driven by three player. One of those players will now be out the next 6-8 weeks. He is hitting similar to Santana but with 97 RBI. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/08/vinnie-pasquantino-to-miss-six-to-eight-weeks-with-broken-thumb.html
  11. resetting expectations on the return of your 50 million per season investments. ouch
  12. While I totally agree with this post. I just wanted to point out how far away from the topic of claiming Rogers on waivers this is. I would like to see the Twins do something to bolster the pen but I think the real issue is the offense. they are not consistently scoring enough runs. The bullpen has to be perfect every time out with how we are scoring lately. its either a few runs or 6+ every 5th game. Scoring should be 4 runs a game + over half the time and its not.
  13. With the Twins Tonkin is averaging 24 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched.
  14. coming into this season the rotation was 6 starters deep. I suspect if the budget wasn't such an issue we would have signed a reliever to a contract as we didn't have many issues coming into the season. a hitter, bench and bullpen maybe a number 5 starter since we didn't know Woods-Richardson was going to be good this season, but we got DeSclafani before he was injured. I said all that to say we didn't pay for a reliever this offseason because of the budget. We aren't going to sign a 25+ million starter after signing a 21 million starter but 1 reliever at 8-10 million doesn't break the bank on a 160 million budget. on a 125 million with fixed costs designed for a 150 million budget does. I don't think paying for a reliever is their preferred method of finding them either, but I don't think they rule it out either. We did go into this season with lots of assumed depth. maybe letting Bowman walk was not a good idea this last time.
  15. When Festa gets back on a roll, it will be a Festivus for the rest of us! hopefully the one HR is it from him.
  16. Winder should be back up in a few days to help the pen. We should give Richards a few more outings to see if we should replace him with Winder. Also it’s about time for Varland to get ready for a bullpen move. That should help shore it up some for the time being. also I wonder if Zebby would have been given a chance to work the 6th inning today if the Twins had scored some runs and had a decent lead.
  17. The Twins were only interested in Maeda on a 1 year deal. If he signed a 1 year deal I bet he would have better results for the Twins but he still would be trending down this year. 120 innings of 4.74 ERA for 12 million while not ideal is not the end of the world either. The Jury is still out on Gray. I feel like he’s been solid this season but there are two more to go. Woods-Richardson has made their exits ok.
  18. He’s tied with Sano at 161 career HRs. Polanco with 112 in Minnesota puts the international class of 2009 at 434 career HRs in Minnesota and counting. Too bad Sano flamed out and they couldn’t get to 700 or so ….
  19. Right but there is a lot of venom being spewed his way that he doesn’t deserve. If he was blowing games, I get it. But his one hiccup was understandable. And he is far from an ideal pickup or what we needed as I agree we needed a shut down reliever and didn’t get one. Helll, Nero’s just signed with the Astros. He would have helped.
  20. I think after Zebby gets 2 more starts we move Varland to the pen if Zebby continues to pitch well. And Festa does too. Varland could still go back to the rotation if needed the first few weeks he’s in there and then if needed the last week or two in the rotation we can just do a bullpen game or two to finish out the season.
  21. There seems to be a lot of unwarranted Richards hate or strong dislike at Twinsdaily. He had a bad outing when he came in cold for an injury and pretty much perfect the rest of his games. He should be ranked around Theilbar because that is where his expected ERA around 4.5 would be. I think we should separate the trade which no one likes and it’s not the trade they don’t like, it’s the fact that we didn’t get what we wanted or the team really needed, from the pitcher who is a 6th or 7th man in an 8 man bullpen. Richards has done the job he was acquired to do better than he was expected to do it so far.
  22. Kikuchi essentially cost Festa. I prefer Festa in that sense. on Richards I get being mad at the trade but he has pitched well outside one bad appearance. At least the results you want are there. I think he will get some 6th inning opportunities in meaningful games soon. He is showing he can get outs.
  23. Other than that 1 appearance he has been unscored upon. I would like to see him in a little higher leverage situation though. But like I said before they need to get one of the three remaining options
  24. Seems like part of the problem is not trusting Richards in higher level situations. We need more good relievers and he has done well since that one appearance outlined in your article. Blasting Richards isn’t helpful as he isn’t the problem. With us needing another reliever it’s time for Varland to make the switch. It’s definitely short sighted for the Twins ownership to not give anything for the Twins to get a reliever at the deadline. Good news there is another reliever available in Hector Neris or even Diekman. We have options that are affordable. It’s your move front office what are you going to do?
