Maeda, Sonny Gray, Jake Odorizzi and Jaime Garcia were good trades. (Jamie Garcia had one effective start before the Twins traded him again but that still counts).

Perkins is in the Jax category ahead of Duffey. Probably tied maybe a little ahead of Tyler Rogers. Cory Lewis is also a prospect who reached AAA this season on the Twins pitching prospect chart. Kyle Gibson gets no love here? First round draft pick has over 100 career wins and is on track to finish between 130-150. Berríos is at 99 career wins. He could make it to 200 if he stays healthy.

How Carlos Correa has stacked up against the rest of 2023's free agent shortstop class
Brandon commented on singlesoverwalks's blog entry in Saul Krachinski
Swanson has been a league average hitter since signing with the Cubs. Boegarts was solid last year and below average this year for the Padres. I think he even got moved off of SS too. Turner is good but was never signing here. And I don’t think he is a plus defender. On a per game basis Correa seems to be one of the best signings. And if you include the SS class from the previous year only Seager comes out significantly better statistically. Semien does too except he is at 2B. We are getting good value from Correa when he is on the field and healthy. Let’s hope he gets better and can gut out the playoffs with peak performance if we don’t blow it on the way there. -
And they are getting the results needed too. Tonkin has a 4.76 ERA but Blewett is 2 earned runs in 14 innings with 12 Ks and 3 BB and 13 hits. Is it sustainable? I don't know. He does have a high nineties fastball if i read correctly. But he is also low leverage. I am not saying he will have a great career. He has had a great last 4-6 weeks and we just need that to last another 4 more weeks is all I am saying.
-
DFA ??? really? I mean you can make a case for Tonkin. All I am saying about Tonkin is that he is an ok 8th man out of the pen. Blewett isn't blowing it. He has 11..67 innings with 11 to 3 K to BB ratio and not giving up runs either. He could be on a streak through the playoffs. Is he a DFA candidate who knows maybe. but he is on a tear right now. Henriquez, He is the most stable of all at this point with 27.67 career innings with the Twins with an ERA of 2.60. His FIP is around 4.01 so with that he is still serviceable. This is the performance for the back of the bullpen. the 7,8 and 9th man in the pen since its expanded in September. for the playoffs we can bring one or two of these pitchers with the team to be the bottom end of the pen to pitch in likely losses to keep the score down in case we are able to come back. so I don't understand how this is pathetic. can you explain with facts and data?

The Cleveland series is 4 games. We sweep that we are back in the division title business. I won't resign myself to wild card only till after that series. with our two best players back and maybe a healthy Kepler we could be very competitive here on out. Our offense and defense will improve with these two. It will take pressure off of Walner and Lewis too. The back of our pen has been pitching well too. Blewitt, Henriquez, and now Varland with Tonkin who has been ok. My confidence level is real high if Correa and Buxton are truly injury free. I do like this article comparing records needed to ensure our way into the playoffs, but it would also be cool to see our path to the division title too even if we don't like the outlook.

We have so many second baseman coming up that I don’t bemoan the loss of Steer. We are probably still looking to offload one or two more as well. I would hate on this trade if 2B was a black hole for us, but it’s not. Also Steer is only league average 100 OPS+ also Farmer has a .787 OPS since his season opening slump ended April 26th or so. After that 3 for 47 start he is 36 for 137 with 16 XBH, 10 BB and 4 HBPs and 2 sac flys. Also how do you feel about the Reds signing Pagan to 2 year 16 million. He hasn’t been bad but it appears he was hurt for a bit without me doing any research. 8 million still a little steep though but so far not too bad of a signing.

Blewitt hasn’t blown it and Henriquez is pitching well too. With Varland now in the pen. Tonkin has been ok last man in the pen. The pen is showing potential and it sounds like Paddack will be back for pen duties in the playoffs. The pen will be fine. The offense still concerns me but could improve drastically if Correa and Buxton hit like they were at the time of injury. That’s all I got and it’s actually a lot. Also the defense improves too which will help the pen.

Since starting the season in a 3 for 47 slump. Kyle Farmer has hit .36 for 137 a .263 Ave with 10 Doubles a triple and 5 Home Runs (16 XBH in 137 AB) his slash line since the slump is .263 / .327 / .460 / OPS .787. Which is pretty good for a bench guy, better than Castro.

He is a better 3rd starter then Les Straker was in 87. So we have that going for us.

We could bring up Morris for a few starts or do. Couple bullpen game and let Woods-Richardson and Festa piggy back each other for 3-4 innings each on a start to help limit innings. Both seem to be good for that long each game. It’s only for a few starts and the playoffs. Could be a game changer as we try to hold on for the Wild Card spot. Buxton where are you. If it’s not debilitating get on the field

David Festa Sure Looks Like a Major-League Starter
Brandon replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hence he was listed as a potential 8th or 9th starter. The point is that it looks like we should be able to move on from Paddack and reallocate his salary seeing how much depth we have in the rotation. -

Also for next year we have Morris about ready to debut and Lewis is also likely to be ready at some point too. so we will have options next year. and Dobnak too if too many injuries occur. -

I agree with you. But if they can't find a trade partner then the pen is where he will be. As long as he can show he is healthy, I think someone will take a chance on him. 7.5 million isn't too much for a 5th starter with his potential. I can also see the Twins missing out on an opportunity because they can't trade him and are forced to have him on the roster to show he is healthy before someone trades for him. They will then either give him a few starts to show he is healthy or have him pitch in relief maybe as a piggy back pitcher and get 3-5 innings after the starter. until he can be traded. but I think if he is back with the team next year he will likely be pushed into relief. -
With any available funds the Twins will target a strong bench player who can play all over the IF and maybe the OF as an option. They could also target a mid-priced middle reliever on a 1 year 3-5 million contract. but definitely depth signings for sure. Paddack will either be dealt or could be moved to the pen to be that reliever. Henriquez and Varland could be the others and if Stewart comes back strong and we have Alcala, Sands, Jax, and Duran that gives us 7 relievers if we count on Paddack there. Here is a thought. The Twins could restructure Velazques contract. He is a solid backup catcher. at 35% of the time. His defense is worth having around his offense less so, but he has been better. could the Twins sign him to a 1- or 2-year extension but making the contract like a 2 year 8 million per year or 3 year 7 million a year. we pay less up front but its more in line with his production and get a solid backup at C. I think the only issue is that he is not worth 10 million. 6 or 7 million is closer. but we would still have to pay market value for the extension years and spread out the overage for next year on top of that. The next 2 season are his 34 and 35 age seasons so for 35 and 36 the number could be lower than what I have above. If his defense is that good, I am open to a reworked extension.

The Positive Spin On Max Kepler's Impending Departure
Brandon replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Kepler has the long time Twin sentimentality from me in that I appreciate players the longer they are with my team. but I think we have lower cost options with better offensive potential on the way and more than one so we will be fine. The book on the 2009 international signing class is about to close. It looks like Sano with 162 and Kepler with 161 Homeruns are neck and neck for the team lead and Polanco finished his time in Minnesota with 112 which gives them 435 HRs in Minnesota and 450 total. The trade tree is still ongoing from the Polanco trade. I forget the throw in pitcher prospect or was it just Topa, Desclafini, Gabriel Gonzales and cash. I was thinking there was a throw in pitcher too. I wonder how that pitcher is doing? Hopefully Topa can contribute something next year if they keep him around. The Twins so far have actually lost that deal unless you take into consideration that the cash saved was the amount paid to Santana and you count his contributions.... I hope Seth Stohs writes a looking back at the 2009 international league class at the end of the year when Kepler becomes a free agent.- 26 replies

If Jenkins is ready to debut at age 20 in the majors, I hope the Twins sign him to one of those 9-10 year extension contracts so we have him for a while. he would still be 30 as a free agent ......, Also either Paddack gets traded this offseason or goes to the pen. What do you think happens here?

David Festa Sure Looks Like a Major-League Starter
Brandon replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Having Festa and Zebby ready and Morris with Dobnak in AAA waiting, will allow the Twins to either trade Paddack or move him to the pen next season. After giving up 12 earned runs in 10 innings to start his career he has only given up 13 in 37.33 innings a 3.13 ERA -
I imagine the Twins will slow down a little with Jenkins. He is 19 still. I bet they start him in Cedar Rapids next year to see how he starts and be promoted to AA within a month or two of starting the season and playing most of the year at AA maybe finishing the year with a few weeks of AAA and starting 2026 in AAA with being close to arriving at anytime during the season. Especially if there is an Injury or he hits the snot out of the ball and forces his way up, otherwise probably around 100 plate appearances and….In 2027 he will have a starting role at the age of 22. ERod was robbed by injuries of needed development time this year as he could be up right now threatening to take Buxton’s CF job away from him as he develops at the major league level while Buxton sits on the DL. Keaschall is making it interesting as we already have a crowded IF . Who gets left out? We have: Julien, Lewis, Miranda, Lee, Correa, for 2B, SS, and 3B. Miranda could stay at 1B with Julien on the outside looking in but Lee and Lewis are major league starters. Where do you put Keaschal in a rotation with Dh, 3B, and 2B?

Henriquez has been pitching real good too. That could give us two solid relievers going forward if they both continue to pitch like they have in the pen. if the dependable part of our pen grows to Jax, Duran, Alcalá, Sands, Varland, and Henriquez with Stewart back next year we would be at 6 solid relievers going into next season with a few others capable of stepping up. ( Canterino, Raya,).

DeBarge = Sonny Gray and also = Berrios since he was picked close to the same slot and lastly = El DeBarge the 80’s pop singer with same name. So I’d like to see 4 or 5 borderline all star seasons out of Debarge before he hits free agency so he can be comparable in this company. Is Amick any good defensively? His power seems legit, does he strike out too much or get on base well? Im assuming Culpepper will be a .260 hitter with 15-20 HR power and around 10 stolen bases in the majors. I hope he is good defensively at SS cause at some point we will need another good one to step in for a while.
