  1. I'm happy with this move. He will be a solid reliever for us and give us another reliever we can count on.now we can focus on developing our relievers and bringing them up one at a time. We can still sign Kopech or trade Larnarch for a good reliever. But now the need is not so dire.
  2. And the Twins just signed another pitcher to a minor league deal. Merryweather to a minor league deal with spring invite. He pitched for Cubs last three seasons with various results.
  3. Except we were actually saying here that they should try him in the pen first. No one thought he would be as good as he was but everyone liked him and there was belief he could get through a lineup once My thoughts is that he is now plenty of time removed from injuries and this is when he should take steps forward.... He is also 37 this year. I am hoping for a solid season out of him. If the Twins sign someone like Kopech to finish off the off-season. I can live with the moves. And I hope enough of them work out
  4. The Twins have a history of having successful offenses by having average 1-9 hitters who can drive in 60-75 runs each and having a decent bench too. The Twins have this type of offense now. Buxton, Wallner and possibly Lewis. I don't want to count on Lewis but the other two could drive in 90+ This offense should be able to top 200 HRs for the season too.
  5. They self mutilated last trade deadline in the pen. This is supposed to be a rebuilding/ reloading year for next year as we rebuild the pen and work in the starting pitchers at the back of the rotation. We have 3 OF and a SS coming up through the minors at some point this season. We got the best value at the positions we did address. I think Bell could hit 25-30 HRs and have 75-85 RBI which is what he was brought here to do. Arcia was brought in to be the back up IF/ SS. I think his bat is potentially better than IFK. At least the same at a lower cost. Cartini was the best backup C on the market which keeps our offense at C above league average. I'm good with the position player side of things. We are giving players a chance to develop and have the flexibility to swap them out with younger players if need be and we have veteran insurance if we need that too. On the pitching side of things the rotation is good cause we didn't move anyone and the pen still needs another arm possibly two. So the pen gets an I for now or D. They do get credit for bringing back Rogers on a low cost one year deal. He likely could have doubled that if he wanted to. But still the gaping whole that needs some help.
  6. But includes a full season of Keaschal, Bell, Cartini, and a full season of Wallner, Lewis could rebound to a solid player, and we have several hitters in the high minors waiting for a shot. The offense will be fine. We will have a 6-10 ranked offense this season.
  7. Outside of Lee, who sux? Lewis is a maybe. Either he sux again or hits 25+ HRs with .270 ave, Keaschal looks good, Bell is solid offensively. larnarch is a average and every one else looks pretty good
  8. But he is our long time long standing long shot!
  9. It is time to ramp up the annual Matt Canterino is the bullpen wild card. I bet he starts the season in AAA. But it would be great to get a full season from him
  10. For me what matters is the number of options they have at the end of spring training. If the Twins are going to cobble together a bullpen, I would rather they start with large numbers and whittle it down in spring training.
  11. It doesn't matter as much to me going into spring training. If we are going with suspects we want as many decent suspects as possible to figure out which ones are the best suspects to keep in our pen and keep a few in the minors for when one of the suspects bombs and we need to replace with the next best suspects.
  12. I would like to see us get another reliever or two before opening day. The sooner the better too so we can start seeing what we have and make plans for our pen. I am not sure of Banda's stuff but 2 years in a row of success tells me he has figured something out and could continue to be successful. His ERA could be worse by a run and we would still have more stability with him in our pen.
  13. I guess your looking for someone to play 1B long term and I think we already have him in Wallner. Or Gonzalez. Move someone in from the OF. We have 3 strong OF bats and a strong SS bat and a strong SS defender. . I think these guys just need time I like the trade proposals so if you want to make a trade, I'm fine with that
  14. Has anyone seen the Royals OF? We could trade them Larnarch for Schreiber or one of their other relievers and throw in a little cash to balance the trade budget or add a lottery prospect. A trade like that could be win win The Royals for their part have several solid middle relievers. The best part about this for the Pohlads is the budget doesn't change or it goes down a little If the Twins were able to save 2 million in payroll, maybe they could find enough change in the couch cushions to spring for Kopech!.
  15. Injuries hurt the team. Last year was Wallner, Keaschal, Lewis, Ober and Pablo Lopez. We need the IF guys to be healthy as we have less depth there. we also need Lopez to pitch 180 + innings this year and Ober to be able to get over 165 innings with a sub 4 ERA. Getting more offense at C with Cartini and 1B with Bell will help. We need another reliever and then it will come down to getting a reliever or two developed and we then a competitive team.
  16. Thielbar was a minor league signing that pitched in 238 games with 221.33 innings and he had 268 Ks. He went 18-9 and saved 4 games with a 3.66 ERA. Salary for 5 seasons of pitching for the Twins totaled just over 7.5 million. That seems like a top 5 deal to me.
  17. While not included in the trade but the 5.625 million saved was the exact amount Santana signed for the next day. So if you don't give the trade credit for Santana you can give it credit for the cash saved.
  18. My favorite trade is a minor one. Actually there were two of these trades. The Twins traded with both Anaheim and Seattle and gave them nothing other than the ability to spend more money internationally for a second round draft pick and 5th round pick. Only the C Banuelos ever played in the majors for Baltimore. Pearson never .made it far. These trades were made possible because these two teams wanted extra cash to sign Ohtani Another top 5 move was talking Theilbar out of retirement and giving it another go and he pitched quite a few years as an effective reliever on a minor league contract.
  19. I agree we need to sign 1 or two more arms for the pen. I think we need someone who can give us an ok floor with league average pitching. Or preferably better but at minimum league average.
  20. I would like to see the Twins get 1 more major league reliever. I am not too picky. Someone who can pitch with a league average ERA.for stability in the pen. I would even be fine with resigning Tonkin to a 1 year 1 million deal. We can always trade or release him if youth is successful and we need another slot for a younger reliever.
  21. Those teams all have set plans that they operate from. The Twins plan is a moving budgetary target. Falvey starts operating one way then gets a bigger budget and.then the budget gets slashed and slashed again and ...The Guardians and Tampa and Brewers don't have near the variance. The Twins tried splashy moves to increase fan interest too. It wasn't just for baseball but for marketing too and it didn't work. I don't think we should be the outlierest team to succeed either.
  22. 2020 did Falvey in, The team lost money and the prospects were set back. After resetting in the draft we have quite a few top prospects at AAA. Falvey is the fall guy for the last Pohlad in charge. It would be interesting to see how he would operate with a 180-200 million payroll.
  23. Except this years team is looking ok with a lower budget. COVID-19 and the TV deal fallout hurt revenue's. So did cutting payroll. But it looked like things were trending in the right direction for this season with one or two more relievers the roster would be set with a strong rotation and decent bench and decent group of position players with 4 strong prospects at AAA. And in the pen we would have potential with a few converted starters and depth. Not as good a pen as last year but passable considering the budget. I know I may be in the minority but I am not a fan of this move at this time. If a teardown occurs, I will be out as a fan.
  24. I guess the Twins thought we got the ceiling of Ohio last year. Though it would be nice to see how he would do in one inning stints. But I do think Adams has more potential but at least Ohi is achieving his .. Another difference between Ohio and Adams is the larger investment in Adams. While not too much it is noteable. I6th round signing bonus vs 14th round. What is that 250k - 500k?
