  1. I wonder if there are any relievers available now. Lorenzen could be a multi inning reliever. I wonder if he is available. He wouldn't cost much in prospects. I also think Chapman could be available sooner rather than later. But he still has around 6.5 million left on this years salary. And he probably costs a lot of prospects Which other relievers will be available for cheap?
  2. So your saying the Twins are the minor leagues of the Yankees and other contenders every year cause we need to strip down to the studs every year. Trade everyone cause we are not where you think we should be. If we win the next two against the Rockies then go 6-6 should we trade everyone then? That would have us at 57-60. If we are less the 5 games and 3 teams from a wild card spot, we should probably go for it. What prospects do you think we will get that will help immediately?
  3. Maybe Raya and Culpepper are the relievers we needed to acquire to improve the pen to help make us a make shift contender this year as we continue to develop.
  4. Skipping out on an opportunity to win is silly! There are times it makes sense to just give up. But if you always give up because you have some preconceived idea of what it takes to win and that path can severely restrict your opportunities. By what you are saying the 87 Twins should have quit and sold off and rebuilt. I am sure your glad they didn't. I'm not saying this team is the 87 Twins. But say Wallner and Culpepper comes up and makes our offense more dangerous and if Rojas or Ober comes back and is solid down the stretch and we acquire two good relievers, that could be the difference in getting to the playoffs and maybe winning a series in a season they aren't supposed to is way more fun than watching the throw the season for prospects. That shouldn't be the norm. Especially with low fan morale as is.
  5. They are not a perennial contender as is, they should keep rebuilding giving opportunities to those who earn it but that shouldn't stop them from being small buyers for bullpen arms cause fixing their pen could allow the team a better shot to sneak into the playoffs. I would be happier with a playoff chase then giving up on the season and saying maybe next year. Speaking of next year our rotation should have Lopez, Ryan and Abel and Taj in it. Maybe Ober but I'm doubtful at this point. I also hope to see some of our young hitters up so next season they are prepared to go.
  6. But the whole league is not a contender by your definition except maybe the Rays and Yankees. The Twins are not far off from a playoff spot as a wild card. If we are close at the trade deadline, we already have to be a buyer based on Tom Pohlads quotes. We have top tier offense, solid bench and rotation the defense is suspect at best in some areas and the bullpen has issues that acquiring two good arms helps solve. So again how are we not a contender when we are a few games out?
  7. Raya is the first of the 2020 draft class to debut 6 years later but whose counting, and we could still see a few others get a shot. Rosario was promoted to AAA, Sabato seems to be a AAA player and that will allow for an opportunity of some kind, and wasn't CJ Culpepper from that draft as well? If so that would be 4 out of 5 to potentially make it to the majors. Time will tell
  8. Good article. I agree with all of it. It will be interesting to see who wins the 2B role between Keaschall and Lee. It's looking like Lee now but let's see if Keaschall can become an elite defender at 2nd. Keaschall can move to LF if needed.
  9. Why is this team not a contender? What happens if they acquire a good reliever or two at the deadline? We have a top scoring team and average rotation with an ace. Our pen is the problem. I'm not saying that will make us a great team but one who will compete for division title or a Wild Card. Getting into the playoffs is a bonus and could increase next year's payroll some, maybe 10-15 million. Not much but I'll take it.
  10. Being in contention is being within 3 teams and less than 5 games of a playoff spot. After September1 that number shrinks on a line till playoffs begin.
  11. The article referenced since May 1 across 164 plate appearances he hit .288/.390/.381. I'm on my phone and read .390 as .380 but my comment is still valid.
  12. Anyone getting on base 38% + of the time is going to be value for the team. Great base running and defense can make him a very valuable player.
  13. I think CJ Culpepper is next on the list to bring up. It gets murky after him though.
  14. I think the Twins need a good return as long as they are in the playoffs hunt. No reason to trade just to trade. Normally with a below 500 record, I am in the sell and get prospects group. But the league as a whole is bad and we are competitive. We need to make sure the prospects are ready to step in to replace him.... I think we are a few good relievers from being an actual serious contender. At the top of the league in runs scored. Just behind Yankees. Improved pitching solves the equation and gets us in the playoffs. With the position the Pohlads are in, we need to be buyers at the deadline. I would support a trade with Boston or three team deal where Twiins trade Larnarch and a prospect for Chapman, another reliever and a few million to help offset salary.
  15. His average is low and so is his walk count. We are not trying to develop the next David Kingman. or Gallo with half his walk total. but I do think he should be challenged at AA if he can continue to get his average up. Lets see if he can hold his .860 OPS for another month and then lets talk about a promotion.
  16. Woods-Richardson, Topa, Adams, Lawrence, and Garcia have combined to give up 95 earned runs in 96.33 innings. The rest of the staff has given up 270 earned runs in 590 innings for a 4.16 ERA
  17. Caratini has almost a .400 average his last 15 games as he is hitting close to a solid backup C again.
  18. Twins career to date 🌹 n baseball reference. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lawreju01.shtml. With Twins, 6 innings, 12 Ks, 4HRs allowed. 10 hits and 9 walks
  19. Justin Lawrence is striking out 18 batters per 9 innings but also giving up 6 HRs per 9 and 3.167 batters on base per inning.
  20. Justin Lawrence tried to lose it all by himself yesterday
  21. Not SS Culpepper but reliever Culpepper. Big difference. Reliever Culpepper was left off 40 man and went unclaimed in rule 5 draft last year. He is having another solid season in AAA and could get a call up to our team. And like I said I didn't think the trade all the way through other than Gonzales is a good OF prospect and number 3 on our OF prospect list so kinda redundant. If we got Chapman for the pen we would probably want cash which would make the trade for Boston better. You tell me a fair trade proposal. Also that negative run differenial comes from Topa, Woods Richardson and Garcia, Lawrence and Adams. Get Chapman and the last of this group is gone. The negative run differenial is not because of the 2nd best offense but a few bad pitchers With Abel and Rojas back from injury and an elite reliever and if we go get another reliever too. The run differenial should be positive moving forward and yes the Twins will still have holes but be competitive down the stretch and could get into the playoffs. It will be more entertaining if this is how it plays out
  22. The Twins have the second best offense in the league and a deep slightly above average rotation that is 7 deep. Abel and Rojas coming back from injuries soon. The bullpen needs internal improvements and could benefit from a trade. We also have internal improvements on the horizon for offense as well and lots of depth. This bodes well for our future and now. As long as we don't give up too much in a trade we should be good. Getting Chapman plus some cash would be the most impactful move we could make. Culpepper looks deserving of a bullpen chance. He should be up soon. We currently have lots of floor guys with high 4 and low 5. Banda has turned the corner and been great since early May.
  23. Baseball is a business. You don't have to win all the way to win at the gate. If the Twins are still in it they are going to be buyers. Most of their reinforcements on offense will come from within. However we need some pitchers who can get more outs. We have too many floor guys and need more results. From within only Culpepper really looks deserving on the mound. I could see us trade Larnarch for a solid reliever. And Boston will have Chapman available. We can always use another lefty in the pen. Here is an interesting trade idea. How about Gabriel Gonzales and CJ Culpepper to Boston for Chapter.an and 5 million to offset most of his salary. Feel free to make your own updated proposals. This one is not well thought out but in the framework of something I would do.
  24. I don't think we are sellers. I think they will try to add a pitcher or two at the deadline to bolster the pen. Either promote hitters like ERod or Culpepper and or trade for a different DH if they can find a taker for Bell if he doesn't step up soon.
