  1. So in your opinion, at least one more. Got it...
  2. How many more articles do we need to see touting the depth in the minors and the canny decisions made by the FO before people stop calling for their heads? Just wondering...
  3. At worst, he is a solid #3. Stop panicking.
  4. I am struggling to see why everyone is giving up on Buxton already. Have a backup in place, yes. But to write him off completely makes zero sense right now.
  5. Basically the only untouchables right now are Correa and Buxton. The "it would take a perfect trade" guys are Duran and Lewis. Everybody else has a level of availability if the Twins thought it would improve their team. After the dealings with Correa and Buxton, we-as-fans need to re-evaluate how the front office looks at things. I don't think any available player, either FA or trade candidate, is off the table.
  6. Not crazy at all. I have always thought Maeda back was a strong possibility. I wouldn't go QO, I would go 2/$30 with a 3rd yr team option. He has been really good in Minnesota, could be strong as a SP or RP.
  7. I agree with the regional viewership statement because it has always been that way. Baseball does not promote the league as a whole, the teams are generally left to fend for themselves. Baseball is more a collection of independent contractors compared to NFL/NBA. They need to pivot and start using a more national model or the smaller teams will eventually die.
  8. Lots of calls to replace Solano with an in-house candidate. With all of the injuries and player movement this year, I think if the Twins felt there was a solid in-house candidate we would have seen him. Still early in the offseason, but still huge questions on Kiriloff. I would not be surprised to see a run at a "full-time" guy either through trade or FA. If the Twins do not like what they see, a reunion with Solano on another 1 yr deal is very plausible.
  9. I see what you did there...
  10. If my memory serves, those rights are held by the teams, not the broadcasters. Revisit the spat between the Orioles and Nationals from a few years back. The big issue with regional broadcasting is that the big cities stay richer and the smaller cities suffer. The bigger cities are not willing to give up that type of income, that financial advantage for the greater good of the league. Unlike NFL and NBA which grew on the back of national broadcast deals benefiting the entire league as a whole, baseball has always been about their region. This is probably the biggest issue facing baseball today that does not get enough press.
  11. Does everyone here realize that a subscription to MLBtv does us no good? MLBtv is still restricted by the regional blackout rules. That is the whole problem. A national television/streaming contract is the only way to ensure the long term viability of baseball. Do you think Packers or Bills would survive without a national NFL contract?
  12. As long as MLB lives in the world of regional television rights, small and mid-market teams will not be able to maximize profits. The Twins would better off with MLB and a national broadcast deal. Going local is short-sighted, they need to be able to be seen in the five state area, along with pushing into Montana and Nebraska.
  13. This is not a black and white scenario. Injuries will happen. Pitcher effectiveness will change. There is a lot of offseason to go: Gray, Maeda, Pagan... Many decisions have to be made before Varland will know what 2024 looks like.
  14. The discussion here is whether or not MAT will be a starting CF vs a 4th OF. On a strong offensive team, he can be your 8th/9th guy because his defense is so valuable. The Twins brough him in as insurance for Buxton. I am not sure we could have done better for the cost. If the expectation is for Buxton to play 120 games in CF next year, the Twins approach to MAT would be different. If they know for sure Buxton will not be available, you start looking for a higher end player. Personally, for the cost, I would bring him back for the exact same reasons they signed him last year. We just don't know about Buxton.
  15. I concur. I was expecting something realistic like Lamont Wade, Kyle Gibson, or Zack Littell. Heck, I could even hear arguments for Eddie Rosario. Miguel Sano? Really? Kind of embarrassing...
  16. My moniker is for the announcer, not the player. But any all-time Twins team that has Dan Gladden in consideration doesn't hold much water in my book.
  17. Dollars play a huge role here: Alcala will be back. Gordon will be back (though his grasp on a 40-man slot is extremely tenuous). Cheap and potential roster fits (Gordon for his positional flexibility) We all appreciate what Luplow did for the Twins, but he is the quintessential AAAA player that can be found at any point during the season.
  18. Lots of love for Duran, but if I were the Twins, I would wait. So many things can go wrong. Duran has been really good, but not elite. The injury risk and volatility of relievers is real. If you are looking to buy out a year or two of FA, that would put him him in his early 30's at the end of the contract. Hard throwers tend to flame out younger (pardon the pun), meaning Duran's jump into FA at that time might not be great. Lot's of risk for both sides, but I think the Twins can wait a year or two without losing too much financial advantage.
  19. Anthony Franco on MLB Trade rumors had a Twins-centric chat last Friday. The transcript can be found here: https://live.jotcast.com/chat/twins-outlook-23-16688.html A few takeaways: - He doesn't believe Gordon will stay on the 40-man through the winter. - He thinks 4/$72 for Gray is low, but not unreasonable. - He likes MAT back at 2/$15 Decent five minute read...
  20. The Twins will have a dollar/year line they will hold to (like Correa). If some team is willing to pay more, Gray will probably be gone. I would even be good with three years + an option. With Gray's pitching style not relying on power, his age related drop-off may not be as drastic. In the end, it really comes down to Gray's priorities.
  21. I re-read the comments. While not clear, I certainly hope so...
  22. Unless Gray is truly chasing the last dollar, the Twins and Gray would be dumb not to discuss a new contract. Gray has had two of the best years of his career in MN, the Twins should be a yearly playoff contender for the next 3-5 years. Leading the Twins to a WS would make him a folk hero here. Twins need SP depth (as does every team). He won't require a 7 year contract. He brings a needed veteran presence. Offer him 2 years guaranteed at 10% above market value, with two additional option years that guarantee based on easily attainable goals (20 starts, 130 IP. etc.).
  23. I have said this before and I will say it again: I do not know how you can chastise this FO for how they have handled pitching. Year after year the minors have gotten deeper in pitching prospects and year after year the big league team has improved to the point of this year being elite. Every team wants to churn out #1 Aces every year, but that just does not happen. Baseball is lucky to see 1-2 Aces per year as a whole. Gotta be realistic here.
  24. I do not know how Fangraphs came up with that number, but if you polled 100 knowledgeable people, I would bet 100 would say that Correa's production value did not come close to his salary last year. 2023 OPS+ Correa 94 Gallo 101 Gallo had to be worth $40M, right?
