    I am just going on what every publication I have read says. In reality, both the SP4 and SP5 are essentially up for grabs.

    Dan Gladden needs to be fired. I do feel the Twins will struggle to be .500 this year. Varland is not penciled into the rotation, Descalfini is. Although, neither of them have shown anything to earn a spot in an MLB rotation. I would take last year's rotation again this year every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Gray will probably see a small regression but will still be strong, Maeda is just solid.

    So basically your gains are Buxton (hope he is healthy), Paddack (hope he performs), Santana (hope age doesn't catch him), Topa (hope he repeats last year as he has never done that), Julien (hope he doesn't see a sophomore slump), Kepler (hope for a second half repeat)... Thank you for confirming what I said.

    As things stand today, the fWAR projection drop of only 2 seems incredibly optimistic. The Twins SP have 1 high end starter, two middle-of-the road starters, and a whole lot of unproven pitchers and wishful thinking. Losing Gray and Maeda was bad enough, but replacing them with nothing (Paddack is nothing until he proves it) should scare everyone. Let's get this straight: Twins losses: Gray Maeda Pagan Polanco Taylor Gains: Santana A few bullpen guys (DeSclafini is not a gain) Everything else is the same from last year. How can anyone expect this team to be anywhere near as good as last year?

    At the moment, there is really only one non-pitching spot available on the roster (looking at you Larnach). SP is very scary at the moment, with 2 spots basically wide open. Ober will be given many opportunities, but he is not a 100% lock by any means. The pen is pretty much set, with Staumont the only question mark. This team is markedly worse than last year. 2023 Twins drastically underperformed due to many position players underperforming. Even if Correa, Buxton, and Vasquez rebound, the rotation has 3 spots built on inexperience and/or hope. As bad as the division is, .500 is optimistic.

    Respectfully you are arguing two points here: As a 5th pick, that is sunk cost. You have expectations for that type of pick. Whether they are met or not is up to the player. As a 5th pick in the draft, he did very little to live up to expectations: below average defender, not good enough offensively to hold a position. His draft spot had no impact on whether he succeeded or not as a player. As a player, he had 400 decent at-bats and then failed miserably. You can look at Kennys Vargas and Jose Miranda as similar comps for the moment. Is there yet time for him to make a decent career for himself? Sure, but he is on his last legs, possibly his last opportunity. If the Twins felt he would be productive, they would have kept him over Castro. As a Twin, his chances for making the team this year were extremely low, a very strong DFA candidate. To get anything of value for this type of player can only be identified as a win.

    This. A thousand times this. To say the Pohlads were caught unprepared is not accurate. This had been coming in the wind for months. I too do not understand why the fan base isn't rioting right now...

    Regardless of the Royals actions, the Twins and Twins Fandom should all be embarrassed by this offseason. The fact that the Royals, who were/are basically in the same limbo as the Twins and it did not stop them from making moves basically makes Ownership look selfish and short-sighted. Very, very sad...

    Would not surprise me in the least to see an extension or a re-sign at the end of the year. I would have no problem with a 2/25-30 deal. That is the going rate for starting OF. Complain about his performance all you want, but that its what he is. If the Twins had confidence that there was somebody in the wings to replace him in RF, Kepler would already be traded.

    So the Twins are strengthening up their bullpen because they know they SP4 and SP5 are going to be train wrecks with no intention to improve. Welcome to your 2024 Minnesota Twins.

    Kepler has higher value to the Twins at the moment as there is no true successor in the wings. Kepler will be your starting RF on opening day. Depending on how the season goes, he may be a deadline trade candidate. Of course this goes all out the window if the Twins continue to not care about winning this season...

    I am ok with the limbo aspect of this process. We are not privy to all of the restrictions and rules placed on the Twins during the bankruptcy process, there could be many reasons why things went the way the went. I am not ok with the Twins screaming "no tv contract means no spend" when there was zero doubt by anyone there would be some contract in place for this season and the money that goes along with it. I have been yelling this for months, it is an extremely bad look for the Twins and a horrible approach for this fan base that had been expecting the Twins to be WS contenders this year, only to have the carpet pulled out from under them. This is so reminiscent of the late 90's/contraction nonsense...

    This. The Twins approach this offseason should anger every Twins fan. To take a WS contending team and let it fall apart due solely to save money that they annually promise to spend on payroll is extremely disappointing. I have generally been a supporter of this administration over the last few years. They aren't perfect, but you always felt they were trying to win. This is the first year that it feels like they do not care about the product and only care about money. I am having a very hard time getting excited for this season.

    So the Twins cried No TV contract and cut payroll when EVERYONE knew they were going to recoup most, if not all, of that money at some point during this offseason. Now I expect them to say "there are no remaining FA the Twins want to sign" and pocket the money. Welcome back to 1997. Very, very sad.

    Considering the offseason approach to pitching right now, I am guessing all 5 of these names will still be here come Spring Training with an opportunity to make the club. That itself is beyond sad...

    A player that died about 45 years ago is not "recent" in my book. Munson is probably one of the most egregious omissions from the HOF, but the scuttlebutt is that writers did not like him because of his personality. That, and he never led the league in any offensive category, hurt him in a time when writers were more concerned about counting numbers. Coast bias is real. That is why Derek Jeter is considered a god and George Brett is just really good.

    If Joe Mauer played for the Yankees, Red Sox, etc. there would be no discussion here. He would be flying in on the first ballot. The fact that this is even open for discussion continues to show how political the HOF is.

    The points you make are valid. However, unless the Twins come out and say Correa or Lee is being moved to another position, Lee is the odd man out. Teams prefer to trade form a position of depth...
