    For an article that is using a lot of metrics and contract comparisons to not include the same information on Correa is a real miss. The contract itself is the big key. If Correa is bad, they can opt out comparatively early. If he continues to be good, he stays. The clubhouse effect and leadership qualities can't be understated.

    The recent mid-season awards article on ESPN had SWR ranked 2nd in their AL ROY rating. A distant 2nd, but still 2nd. While there is still a lot of season left, SWR is firmly in the discussion. For the record, Gil is 1st and he is also a pitcher.

    I have never said signing FA pitchers was the answer. The fact that they forcibly dropped payroll meant ANY move for a quality SP was a non-starter. There are pitchers that could be had right now for basically nothing, but it would require a payroll bump.

    Outside of Lewis, injuries have not been the problem. From an on-field standpoint, my biggest issue this offseason was pitching. They did nothing to shore up the rotation after Gray and Maeda left, and the team is paying for it. The Paddack and Varland gambles did not pay off. Lopez has not been good. This 22nd ranked ERA staff would be in shambles if it wasn't for SWR coming relatively out of nowhere and Ryan having an up season. This team that supposedly had WS aspirations after last year made one move to build depth (Santana) and went all in on the youth (Wallner, Julien, Kiriloff) with no real contingency plans. That has not exactly worked out well either.

    So you are glorifying the "Minnesota Bipolar"? You can't publicly berate the Twins because we do not do that in Minnesota? You are correct in that teams value increases over time. This is why their off-season moves were so discouraging. They are worried about nickels today when the discussion is Ben Franklins in the future.

    So we don't really know, unless there is a uniform formula for operating income (which there isn't). Again, not looking to argue, but these numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt. I find it extremely hard to believe the Cubs earn almost twice as much as the White Sox.

    Most people forget professional sports is a combination of business and competition, with competition almost always taking a backseat to the business. But the Pohlads are not even attempting to walk this line. My disgust with this team this year has nothing to do with the "effort" of the players on the field (though with the number of underperforming players this year, there is an argument to be made). My disgust is the position ownership has put the team and the fans in. There is no reason to believe ownership cares at all about the product or the fans. From intentionally lessening the on-filed product to the horrible TV contract decisions they made this year... as a fan I am supposed to just shrug my shoulders and just hand over money to them? When this team makes no improvement moves at the deadline, or makes further moves to reduce payroll at the expense of winning, and the Twins finish 3 games out of a playoff spot, are you just going to shrug your shoulders and buy another Twins jersey?

    Baseball economics is different with some of the big market teams, not all. Ownership for teams like the Yankees and Dodgers could pocket a larger percentage of their income, but they don't. They spend it. It isn't completely about the wins and losses. It is about how we-as-fans are treated by ownership.

    Practically the same is not the same, especially with the huge drop off in pitching. Factor in a few strategic positional losses to go with a virtual complete implosion of the younger guys, and you have a below-average team. Ownership drives the FO decisions. The FO decisions drive the results on the field. Ownership not giving the FO the ability to add to or change the on-field product leaves the Twins in the situation they currently are: slowly falling back, only even in the discussion because of a two week beat down on the worst teams in baseball. I still listen to most every game (at least the ones where Gladden is not on the radio). I still am a fan of the the team. But if you look at last year to this year, it was a huge step back. A huge INTENTIONAL when it didn't need to be.

    So as a Twins fan I am not allowed to be critical of the organization? Or are you just being contrarian to my comments like you always do. While I dislike the Yankees as much as any other Twins fan, you have to respect how they treat their fans. They aren't afraid to spend the money they make in an effort to win.

    Face it folks: your 2024 Minnesota Twins are not good. As of the time of this writing, they are 17-2 vs CHW, COL, LAA, OAK. These are 4 of the 5 worst teams in baseball. They are 25-33 against everyone else. In MLB, they are 10th in runs scored, but 22nd in ERA. Thank you ownership for taking a WS contending team and intentionally making them worse. Thank you for taking the TV money and not reinvesting it back in the team. Thank you for not allowing the FO to go out and getting a quality SP or two to replace the ones that left. Thank you for not ensuring your fans get to watch their team on television this year by building in a solid out clause. The articles of who the Twins should trade for need to stop. No trade is coming that will increase payroll or move a top 10 prospect. As a lifelong Twins fan, I am utterly disgusted with this year. You should be too.

    It must be a slow news cycle. The amount of "Who should the Twins trade for?" articles being pumped out at this site is incredibly high right now. Considering the Twins will not make any moves that increase salary or move one of their top 10 prospects, it feels like a lot of wishful thinking...

    We actually do know this. Ownership talked about cutting payroll this offseason and has held to that. They aren't going to suddenly change course because the fans want it.

    None of these questions matter until you answer the only one that means anything: Is this ownership group willing to bring on any additional salary? Since we know the answer is no, this article (along with all of the other team-trade matchup articles) is an exercise in futility.

    I don't know if I would call this click-bait, but if TD continues to pump out these types of articles, they need to open a new article section titled "wishful thinking". The Twins will not make any moves that will increase payroll. Discussions of acquiring ANY player from ANY team needs to stop. They will not trade a cheaper prospect for a more expensive veteran. Ownership is counting by nickels, not millions. There is no "help" to be had from outside the organization. We just get to sit and watch half the team underperform and the SP try their best to reach a cumulative 5.00 ERA.

Nothing else needs to be said. As this ownership group has continuously shown this year, nickels are more important than wins. Nothing will happen that adds payroll, no matter how much a move might make sense.

    Age has absolutely nothing to leadership skills and you know that. I am surprised you used that as an argument. To your argument about how many "leaders" are needed, effective leadership models have multiple levels of management with low player/coach or management/staff ratios. This is one of the reasons that the school system is failing is because you have 30/1 student/teacher ratios. On sports teams you have positional coaches because each position has different needs, wants, and responsibilities. This is why EVERY SPORTS TEAM has a huge coaching staff. Please check out NBA and NFL coach/player ratios for proof of that. Leadership comes in many forms and roles. Vocal, lead-by-example, situational... Peers have a completely different impact than coaches. You need to have multiple "clubhouse" guys to serve in those roles. Since Vasquez was acquired, Jeffers defense has consistently improved. Can you say with any certainty that Vasquez had no impact on that, considering all of the coaches could not improve him prior? I don't know how the Twins view Vasquez. Considering the general overall quality of our catchers, there are probably things that are working that we as the general public do not know about.

    Lot's of talk about Vazquez bat, but I wonder how much of his value is tied into helping Jeffers improve defensively and in general, helping the pitching staff, helping to game plan on a nightly basis. His leadership may be playing a huge role in Jeffers and staff development...
