https://www.si.com/mlb/twins/minnesota-twins-news/five-free-agents-the-twins-should-consider-this-offseason-01j9a0hy7c03 Looks like part of the MLB finances sh*t show that's arrived, wonder how much more of the FO is going to get let go.- 122 replies

Still can't watch the Twins - I can't let this go.
lake_guy replied to Riverbrian's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Exactly why someone needs to get fired over this and/or control taken back from the latest Pohlad in charge. This was preventable and their payroll reduction reflected it. At the end of the day it is the Twins problem, doesn't matter who they want to point fingers at. -
Twins Pass Returns for 2024
lake_guy replied to Melissa Berman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
just curious: How many times have you been asked to get up from your seat by the ticket holder? How good of a seat have you typically been able to get? -
Exactly this. It's the process that got them to the point of pulling the trigger on injured pitchers that bothers me, and they've done it three times now. Dyson, Paddock and Mahle. It looks like the Paddock trade may work out, we'll see.

I agree the players deserve it and it guarantees the team nothing. The core problem is that not all teams in the league have a shot at landing the big talent, or if they did and it went badly, the team can be at a disadvantage for years. I don't fall on the side of owners either but the inequity of revenues and spending is continuing to degrade the sport. This feels like the big market teams are just kind of playing along with the rest of the league to not make it so one sided but then show on occasions like this what financial power they can really bring to the table.

Yamamoto has never pitched to a season worth of MLB level hitters and he's being valued like Gerrit Cole? Really?! Just can't make this stuff up....- 28 replies

Quick search got this, maybe out of date since the Bally collapse? https://dodgerblue.com/mlb-teams-receive-at-least-100-million-annually-from-tv-rights-contracts/2022/02/12/#:~:text=starting in 2022 every MLB team will receive,is getting %24100m%2B guaranteed before selling a ticket. From the financial side, the revenue will be split to give each team $60.1 million annually; Combined with local TV deals that are worth at least $40 million each, every MLB club will make at least $100 million from TV deals alone, according to Craig Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus: I'm really in wait and see mode as to what the impact actually will be and what is used as an excuse to not waste this "tv deal crisis" to mess with payroll.
-
And a massive benefit to high payroll teams because they can DFA or trade the player at the back end, eat the money and say I'll have another please. Lovely....
-
Can't help but think of the famous political philosophy to never let a crisis go to waste. I suspect they're gonna use this Bally crisis for all it's worth to justify all kinds of payroll nonsense. And they won't be the only team.

Exactly this. MLB has a golden opportunity in front of them to broaden the fan base of every team in MLB by enabling streaming rights with no geographic restrictions. Also work out a deal with the remaining regional networks to stream in parallel. If they do come to their senses on lifting the geographic restrictions perhaps an over the air solution could work with a partnership across networks.

Where Do the Twins Go from Here
lake_guy replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The way they are playing and the roster the FO has assembled isn't going to grow the attendance. They are boring to watch, have no spark and don't have the players or the coaching staff to change any of that. At the end of the day the one thing we can probably count on is low attendance is going to get Pohlad's attention and get them all fired. Maybe it will be a 2fer and St. Peter goes too.- 65 replies

Week in Review: Rock-Bottom Reset
lake_guy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Exactly the question that needs to be answered and the one right behind it is how come they are taking so long to change the approach. Does it really take half a season to finally acknowledge the approach is messed up?- 19 replies

Lewis isn't that kind of guy but if he would have gone Ty Cobb on the first baseman I can't say he didn't deserve it.

White Sox 3, Twins 2: Walked-Off in Chi-Town
lake_guy replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
But it did get the guy to third and gives you more options to get him home. The Twins played infield in, that could get a ball through that wouldn't if they were at normal depth. Gotta be stats out there by now that show the progression in extra innings as to what teams are doing. Would be interesting to see what is working.- 45 replies

White Sox 3, Twins 2: Walked-Off in Chi-Town
lake_guy replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
When you're the visiting team I think you have to play small ball and get that one run in because if you don't, the home team is gonna do exactly what the Chisox did and play small ball to get that run in. The other thing it does with that one run is put some added pressure on the home team to get two so maybe they don't play small ball and do what the Twins just did to lose that game. The 10th inning rule requires at least some skill at bunting from all your guys, they just need to be able to put it in play. Twins need to start putting at least a little emphasis on this and stop giving guys a pass.- 45 replies

exactly this.."Wish one of the writers would ask him why he made that move." I keep wondering about that myself. Maybe the writers should start thinking of it as not challenging him but helping him by making him think through why he does what he does. For a team that seemingly prides itself on the use of analytics stuff like this just doesn't compute.
