  1. https://www.si.com/mlb/twins/minnesota-twins-news/five-free-agents-the-twins-should-consider-this-offseason-01j9a0hy7c03 Looks like part of the MLB finances sh*t show that's arrived, wonder how much more of the FO is going to get let go.
  2. Out of all this mess, I really hope true revenue sharing is the answer. Contracting the number of teams will eventually shrink the pie even for major markets because of overall lack of interest in the sport, it's a downward spiral.
  3. And this is why someone in the Twins org needs to be held accountable for this approach. They gotta have known this right? right?!!
  4. Exactly why someone needs to get fired over this and/or control taken back from the latest Pohlad in charge. This was preventable and their payroll reduction reflected it. At the end of the day it is the Twins problem, doesn't matter who they want to point fingers at.
  5. I suspect this is the real reason they cut payroll, they knew the odds were at least 50/50 this could happen.
  6. just curious: How many times have you been asked to get up from your seat by the ticket holder? How good of a seat have you typically been able to get?
  7. Exactly this. It's the process that got them to the point of pulling the trigger on injured pitchers that bothers me, and they've done it three times now. Dyson, Paddock and Mahle. It looks like the Paddock trade may work out, we'll see.
  8. I agree the players deserve it and it guarantees the team nothing. The core problem is that not all teams in the league have a shot at landing the big talent, or if they did and it went badly, the team can be at a disadvantage for years. I don't fall on the side of owners either but the inequity of revenues and spending is continuing to degrade the sport. This feels like the big market teams are just kind of playing along with the rest of the league to not make it so one sided but then show on occasions like this what financial power they can really bring to the table.
  9. Yamamoto has never pitched to a season worth of MLB level hitters and he's being valued like Gerrit Cole? Really?! Just can't make this stuff up....
  10. Quick search got this, maybe out of date since the Bally collapse? https://dodgerblue.com/mlb-teams-receive-at-least-100-million-annually-from-tv-rights-contracts/2022/02/12/#:~:text=starting in 2022 every MLB team will receive,is getting %24100m%2B guaranteed before selling a ticket. From the financial side, the revenue will be split to give each team $60.1 million annually; Combined with local TV deals that are worth at least $40 million each, every MLB club will make at least $100 million from TV deals alone, according to Craig Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus: I'm really in wait and see mode as to what the impact actually will be and what is used as an excuse to not waste this "tv deal crisis" to mess with payroll.
  11. And a massive benefit to high payroll teams because they can DFA or trade the player at the back end, eat the money and say I'll have another please. Lovely....
  12. Can't help but think of the famous political philosophy to never let a crisis go to waste. I suspect they're gonna use this Bally crisis for all it's worth to justify all kinds of payroll nonsense. And they won't be the only team.
  13. Please no to any hitters from the Korean or Japan leagues. Yes there are hitters who have successfully made the jump but we're 0-2 and it wasn't even close.
  14. Exactly this. MLB has a golden opportunity in front of them to broaden the fan base of every team in MLB by enabling streaming rights with no geographic restrictions. Also work out a deal with the remaining regional networks to stream in parallel. If they do come to their senses on lifting the geographic restrictions perhaps an over the air solution could work with a partnership across networks.
  15. Are any of the other teams at a point that they lose just to draw the Twins?
  16. Listening too much to our hitting coaches?
  17. And to me that's the most damning evidence out of all of this for the FO. If I'm Pohlad and see Cleveland make that move it speaks volumes of how bad this FO has become and the brand of baseball they have created.
  18. Exactly the question we have to hope Pohlad is asking too. If this season goes in the ditch should be all he needs to finally make a move. We'll see....
  19. The way they are playing and the roster the FO has assembled isn't going to grow the attendance. They are boring to watch, have no spark and don't have the players or the coaching staff to change any of that. At the end of the day the one thing we can probably count on is low attendance is going to get Pohlad's attention and get them all fired. Maybe it will be a 2fer and St. Peter goes too.
  20. Exactly the question that needs to be answered and the one right behind it is how come they are taking so long to change the approach. Does it really take half a season to finally acknowledge the approach is messed up?
  21. Whenever discussion about how bad Kepler has become I think back to that press conference announcing his new contract. Remember when he said something to the the effect he would play for free? And Levine's facial reaction was priceless...what did I just do? lol Crazy how that one year of the juiced ball just keeps on giving.
  22. Lewis isn't that kind of guy but if he would have gone Ty Cobb on the first baseman I can't say he didn't deserve it.
  23. Sure hope it's the case it's just a new cable channel. Streaming works for me but for my 87 year old mom it needs to be cable. No idea what % of the Twins market my mom falls into but talking to the director of the facility one day she said if the Twins aren't in the cable package the residents will line up outside her office to tell her about it. lol.
  24. But it did get the guy to third and gives you more options to get him home. The Twins played infield in, that could get a ball through that wouldn't if they were at normal depth. Gotta be stats out there by now that show the progression in extra innings as to what teams are doing. Would be interesting to see what is working.
