I’m not a big fan of players playing out of position, such as Lee in left field. Lewis lost an entire year doing that. However I am encouraged about the young position talent they have in AA and above. Having too many good young infielders is a problem any manager would like. Rocco can figure out the lineup. If the starting pitching holds up and they develop a number one starter or another number two like Lopez, this could be team built for a playoff run in the near future.

Thx for the excellent update Jeremy. Let’s hope a couple of these guys make it to the big leagues. Suggestion: include whether they are lefties or righties, and what pitches they throw, including fastball MPH.

Seems like you keep advocating for players to play out of position: Julien or Jeffers at first, Lewis in the outfield. There are nuanced skills at each position, and putting someone there who has never played there, like Jeffers at first, risks injury. That’s what happened to Lewis last year. Garlick can his lefties so why not call him up? Maybe he has experience at first too.

Ronny Henriquez Deserves Some Attention
Otaknam replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Given the current situation in the BP, it doesn’t hurt to give Henriquez a shot. Even mainstay Jax gets lit up too often. Hopefully someone can step up, maybe Ronny.- 32 replies

If Julien hasn’t played first in the minors it is risky to experiment in the majors. Remember what happened to Lewis, though outfield has more challenges than first. Also because first is Kiriloff’s best position, and he appears to be above average playing there.

Randy Dobnak, Twins Overlooked Depth
Otaknam replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I never understood why the FO gave Dobnak a 5 year $9.2 million contract. He was marginally successful and looked like a middle innings reliever to me, not a starter. A head scratcher for sure. -
If Martin reaches his potential he could be a real asset going forward. Castro has helped a lot this year, but there is a reason Detroit released him. With Lewis and Lee as future mainstays in the lineup things are looking up. However, they tried Lewis in CF once before and that didn’t work out very well. Too many high potential infielders is a good problem to have. And Lewis and Martin are fast, so that will add a dimension that hasn’t been appreciated lately in MLB.

Matt Wallner Has Changed the Twins Plans
Otaknam replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes, similar profile and both are left handed bats. But Wallner has a rocket arm and I think his defense is somewhat underrated. I do believe Larnach has some upside but it does make sense for the team to look for an attractive trade that includes Larnach. -
Having a guy on your roster who is hitting .170:with a 50%:strikeout rate does not help the team. The FO just won’t admit signing Gallo was an $11 million mistake, so he stays on the roster and keeps whiffing at an historic rate.

Minor League Report (8/5): The Bats Are Alright
Otaknam replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
It is hard to believe that Gallo hasn’t been released, given his lack of production and almost 50% strikeout rate. I guess the front office doesn’t want to admit their mistake and swallow the remainder of the ridiculous $11 million they wasted on this guy. But everyone already knows that signing Gallo was a mistake, so they aren’t really saving face by keeping him. Can Chris Williams play first? His minor league production success and right handed bat might help the team.- 20 replies

Twins Claim Outfielder Jordan Luplow
Otaknam replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This guy is another Kyle Garlick, so why not call up Garlick? -
Where is Correa on this list? He and Buxton are the poster boys for what ails this team, given their lack of production and contracts.

The Breakout Isn't Coming for Carlos Correa
Otaknam replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Correa is unable to hit an average curveball. He is always behind in the count because he flails away at a curve ball away, then pound him inside. This has been a season long problem. -
Why would FESTA need to still build “back up his stamina after appearing in the Future’s Game over All-Star Weekend”? One All Star game pitching an inning or two throws his stamina off for weeks?

The Twins decided they didn’t need to improve since the other teams decided to throw in the towel. That’s not exactly a vote of confidence on the current underperforming team. That said, I’m happy they didn’t do what they did last year, trading highly successful minor leaguers for damaged pitchers. That’s part of the reason the team is in its current position and why Cincinnati is playoff bound.

I thought this idea was bizarre until reading about how much the Angels will save by trading Rendon, which gives them more cash for Ohtani. It’s too good to be true.

3 Trades the Twins Must Make Today
Otaknam replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No trade if it costs a top prospect. This team may win the division by default, but they aren’t going anywhere if Correa and Buxton keep bottoming out. Even then at best they might win a playoff series. The reality is they need to focus on the young players they want to keep for next year. I can understand if they trade Gray and/or Maeda because it is about planning for next year. -
3 Bold Predictions for the 2023 Twins Trade Deadline
Otaknam replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No to trading Raya for anyone. He’s the only high potential starter in the system after the trading debacles of last year. It wouldn’t surprise me if Larnach is traded for a right handed outfield bat, as I think Wallner has more upside. I think they will hold onto Maeda and Gray despite their impending free agency unless someone blows them away with an offer.- 35 replies

A New Position for Royce Lewis?
Otaknam replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No to center field! That ended disastrously before. As long as Buxton is nothing more than a DH, getting the preferred lineup will be a work in progress. On another note, why is Gallo still on the team?- 67 replies

Gallo is a redundant player on this roster, so he could be moved. Larnach is the obvious choice in a trade for a right handed hitter. He has great power, os at least average defensively, and comes cheap. As for Maeda and Gray, I doubt they will trade either one unless they are blown away with an offer. Maeda has essentially been their number five starter and has given them the chance to win almost every time. So he does have value. Unless they trade someone I can’t see how they will work Gordon into the roster right now, as they have other players who perform the same roll.

5 Reliever Trade Targets on Expiring Contracts
Otaknam replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Some lower level prospect for an expiring contract to help the BP makes sense. Not a fan of selling out the farm like they did last year. The MiL pitching staff is already pretty thin w the exception of Raya.- 8 replies

Who would trade for Gallo, given his nearly 50% strikeout rate? More likely he will be DFA’d when a roster move is made. It’s better to keep the younger players who have potential.

Planning Minnesota's Perfect 2023 Trade Deadline
Otaknam replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Their minor league teams were hit hard by trades last year, with little to show for it. I’m hoping the top prospects are off the board like Lee, Schobel, Rodriquez, Festa, Raya, , and maybe even Cosetta. My guess is they will trade for a player and LHP who are free agents at the end of the season, which minimizes what they have to give up. I’m still not convinced they can make a legit run in the playoffs. The contrast between the Twins and other teams was stark when they played Atlanta and Tampa Bay, and even Baltimore, though Tampa has struggled lately.- 53 replies

Finally! A reason to have some optimism. I’ve been waiting for four months for the team to put a streak together where they win 15 of 20 or better. The offense is starting to escape the earlier ineptitude with RISP and finally getting hits when they count. I do appreciate the aggressiveness on the bases, which seemed missing last year. If the offense continues to do it’s job, and with excellent starting pitching, maybe a playoff run past the first round isn’t out of the question.
