  1. This is the problem = Even Popkins went on the record, and was available to the media recently to talk about the Ks. Admitted they may be overwhelming players with too much info. And This is the solution = I think the Twins need to focus on the practical a bit more and the analytical a bit less It's not too difficult to know where the problem is coming from and how to solve it. Fire the FO and Rocco.
  2. You touched on it briefly when you said 'he wanted out". Berrios knew this team, with this FO, and this Manager, are never going anywhere. Making the playoffs with them is a stretch much less doing something IN the playoffs if they ever get there. Look at 4 of the veterans they think so highly of, Buxton = can't stay healthy, now can't play defense and can't hit. Kepler = can't hit, hasn't for 3 years now. Gallo = can't hit, never has, never will and was given $11M as if he was going to be a savior. He isn't worth $2M. Correa = has injury issues that the Giants and Mets didn't ignore that the Twins FO did, also can't hit, never has been a hitting phenom and never will be, and now has 6 years of making superstar money and can play like an average Joe due to their stupidity.
  3. LOL! And there's some here that still think this team is good. Gallo is exactly what they got, a poor hitter that's going to strikeout a ton. Worst $11M ever spent. Kepler still taking at bats away from Wallner or Larnach who at least have some upside possibility but no opportunity to stay with the club long enough to prove it. Kepler is just too good to be replaced by anyone else, even if they are better. How's Buxton doing since his recall from injury? He looks more lost than Sano ever did. Good job there Rocco going to him as a pinch hitter to end the threat. I'm sure Detroit was glad to see Buck and his lost approach come to the plate. Why was Kirilloff pinch hit for in the 6th? Using Solano and his .284BA would have been better used in the 8th instead of a lost Buxton. Poor Managing, Poor Hitting. 14 K's.... well at least these guys are good at something. LOL!
  4. Based on current stats this would be my starting lineup. I am putting the least productive hitters on the bench and will only use them as pinch-hitters or defensive replacements unless or until their approach at the plate changes. 2B-Julien SS-Farmer 1B-Kirilloff RF-Wallner DH-Solano 3B-Lewis LF-Castro C-Jeffers CF-Taylor Bench-Buxton, Correa, Gallo, Vazquez. Kepler-DFA'd for Wallner's spot. If Polanco comes back and stays healthy he takes over at 2B, Julien slides into the DH spot, Solano goes to 1B and Kirilloff takes over in LF for Castro who replaces Gallo on the bench as he gets DFA'd as well. It's time to send a messaage to Buxton and Correa that their performance thus far is unacceptable. Then at the end of the year I trade both over-rated duds for whatever I can get and move on with the young guys in the organization.
  5. First - Who Cares? Not me. Second - If he can't hit anymore and all he can do is help defensively his $33.3M for 6 years is a huge overpay.
  6. This team won't get better until they get rid of the dead wood they think so highly of. Start with Kepler then add in Gallo, Buxton and yes, Correa. They are the 4 hitters that are hurting this team the most offensively. Unfortunately the FO is forced to stick with them because they have a lot of dollars invested in them and to reverse course would be admitting they were wrong. It's not going to happen. At the end of the season when ownership sees how big of a mistake they made, hopefully they'll all see the front door.
  7. The fact that, not hitting at an average above .250 is acceptable is a poor perception of hitting. Lowering standards so I fit in with todays game isn't something I am going to do. Having a lineup of guys that can hit .220 along with 15-20 HR's and will probably set a record for strikeouts is not a winning formula for an offense. My perception is fine. You've just decided to jump on the bandwagon and consider since it is how things have become, it is how things have to be.
  8. It's amazing how someone with a .240 Batting Average is now considered a "solid player". I've always felt that if they couldn't hit at least .250 that there had to be someone better that could replace them. I guess when the majority of the team is hitting .220 or below, .240 looks pretty darn good. Excuse me while I go puke. As for the problem when Buxton is healthy............... when will that be? In the year 2525, if man is still alive....
  9. The last thing I want to see this FO do is trade away more prospects for worthless veterans. Last seasons deadline acquisitions and how it "helped" the team down the stretch prove they have no sense of what it takes to actually make the team better. Also everyone is pretty much on-board with the theory that deadline acquisitions are more expensive than at any other time. That's reason number 2 for NOT doing it. The main problem I see with this team is that this FO has invested in 6 veterans that are not worth their weight in feathers. Vazquez, Correa, Buxton, Kepler, Gallo and Polanco are the problem. Taylor and his $4.5m contract has been decent enough as a backup CF, problem is, he's become the fulltime CF. Solano, Farmer, Jeffers, Kirilloff, Julien, Lewis, Wallner have all hit better than the 6 veterans I listed above with the exception of Polanco, who can't get healthy enough to stay on the field. As for Larnach, I would not throw him away at this point. He's still young and has not been healthy for long stretches either. He would get a chance to play over Kepler any day on my team. And why is Garlick and his special right-handed bat any better than Wallner and his lefty bat at this point? There comes a time when you have to put the blame where it belongs, and playing these veterans that are NOT productive verses the guys that are falls directly on the FO and the Manager. A rebuild would not be as disastrous as some might believe. Getting rid of the dead wood in the 5 or 6 veterans that can't hit the broad side of a barn for some young, up and coming talent, would be the best thing to happen to this team for 2024 and beyond. This current team isn't going anywhere in the playoffs this year, if they even get there. So let's turn this team into something better, and the sooner that happens, the better. But for that to happen, the FO, the Manager and the Coaches all have to go along with those worthless veterans they think so highly of.
  10. Nothing like a win to make the fans happy. Unfortunately the approach offensively is the same. Swing for the fences and if you get lucky we'll score, otherwise it's a strike out. Oh well, that's what they want and it works occasionally, just not often enough to matter.
  11. This season is a broken record and nothing will change under the current administration. Rocco is an extension of the FO. Even if there is no direct message sent on a daily basis Rocco knows what the FO wants and they are on the same page when it comes to analytics. That means Rocco will play righties verses lefties and vice versa regardless of the player and how they are performing. It's been proven for 2 years now and even if it fails they won't waiver from it. Their spreadsheet says it is a good strategy even when it isn't. I can just envision Puckett, Hrbek and Gaetti getting pinch hit for due to the same strategy.... Tom Kelly would have been run out of town. But it's ok with this Manager because he isn't held accountable for anything. Even when he can't figure out how to rest his main players on different days if their "scheduled off days" fall on the same day. A 10 year old could figure that one out. Batting Garlick 3rd is absurd. Batting Kepler anywhere at this point is beyond absurd, but it won't change under this Manager or FO. They can blow away another season using their analytical BS and get away with it. Only the fans can force a change by not attending games and showing their dissatisfaction with the current regime. Ownerships pocketbook has to be affected to be effective.
  12. Unfortunately this is probably true. And since it is up to the FO to fire Rocco and/or any coaches, they will have to go as well.
  13. Offensively this team misses their leader. No it wasn't/isn't/neverwillbe Correa. It was Arraez. Without someone who can take a bunch of pitches, get on base, and rile up his teammates, this lineup is offensive.
  14. If you want different results, you don't keep doing the same thing over and over taking the same approach. Changes need to be made and there's no better place to start than at the top. When Rocco got his extension the wrong message was sent..... Mediocrity was acceptable. It has come to the point now that only the fans can force the change and as bad as they are playing it might actually happen. Fans are going to stop going to games to watch this crap.
  15. I'd trade the FO and a few more guys... Rocco and his coaches. Acquiring hitters like Gallo that can't hit and keeping more hitters that can't hit like Kepler and then batting them at the top of the lineup or in the middle of the lineup proves these guys don't know what they are doing. If they trade away more prospects this year to try to make this current team better then they are only doubling down on their own stupidity. Add Buxton and Correa to Gallo and Kepler that are worthless. The last thing they need are more veterans that this FO thinks are good.
  16. The Minnesota Twins employ one of the best centerfielders in baseball, but unfortunately, he often isn’t able to field the position. And now, even when he is, he isn't given the chance. Where is he now? On the IL again and it is not due to playing centerfield. His last 3 IL stints had nothing to do with Buck playing defense but the powers that are in control are protecting him from injury. How's that working out? Is it insanity, stupidity or both? Face it, the guy is made of glass. A full bodycast of bubblewrap or medieval body armor are the only things that will keep him in the lineup AND on the field for a full season.
  17. I will add one more thing............ Last year on June 7 the Twins were 32-25. This year they are 31-30. There are a few variables to consider, especially the fact that the schedule of teams being played is quite different but...... isn't it the job of the FO to make the the team better than what it was? Maybe we being sold to believe that this is a playoff caliber team when it is really just a team in transition from veterans who just can't get the job done to a new set of hyped up youngsters still learning how to play the game? I think it is the latter.
  18. The Arraez trade for PLopez is another questionable move. Yes an everyday player for one that plays every 5 days makes it questionable to start with. Then take into consideration that it is one of the best hitters in the game for a slightly better than average pitcher, who also has some past injury history. Again, the FO ignores injuries. The weak knees of Arraez was just an excuse and an attempt at justification by many to move him. Again, the FO ignores injuries. The fact that they acquired Gallo and had Kirilloff coming back, both to play 1B, Polanco/Farmer/Julien at 2B and Miranda/Farmer/Lewis for 3B made Arraez expendable in their eyes. Add in the fact that the FO probably knew of the plan or it was their plan to use Buxton exclusively at DH and it made trading Arraez even easier since he was left without a spot in the lineup. Funny how an organization can work themselves out of keeping a batting champion.
  19. Trading for damaged goods (Mahle, Paddock are just a couple of examples) at any time is questionable, yet that does not sway this FO. Trading for a flash in the pan Jorge Lopez does not concern this FO. Every team takes risks, most of them not at the level that this FO does. I agree with Linus about the idea being good but the targets being wrong. Don't justify their mistakes by saying the Yankees made them too. Both are still mistakes. Part of the "cost" that they gave up in top prospects for these guys was due to the fact that they had two years of control. That made them more expensive. Neither Mahle or Lopez helped down the stretch last season and neither one is going to or is making a difference this year either. Then look at what they traded away and how those players are doing this year. So, it's easy to see that the FO swung and missed on both occasions. Kinda like the offense this year, they fit right in.
  20. I think the David Ortiz explanation says a lot about the Twins organization. Many believe that he would have never been as good as he became if he stayed a Twin. Why, because once he went to Boston he realized he could go the opposite way and make millions of dollars hitting the ball off of or over the green monster. He was strictly a pull hitter with the Twins. Take a look at today's Twins team.... They seldom win a game if they don't hit 2 or 3 home runs. How often does Kepler hit the ball the other way and take a single verses "trying" to pull it into the right-field seats? Why sign a Gallo who hits either home runs or strikes out? Why is your best singles or doubles hitter in Arraez expendable? Their philosophy is to hit HR's. They think that is the only way to win. How often do they lay down a sac bunt and it actually leads to a run? How often does Rocco try to hit and run? 95% of the time they are a one dimensional offense. Situational hitting is not exercised when it needs to be done. It's go for the long ball and swing for the fences, and more often than not they are striking out. Cano wasn't good with the Twins. Pagan wasn't good with the Twins. Why is Cano expendable but Pagan isn't? Why is any player the Twins are paying a fair sum in salary not expendable and players that they don't have a lot of money vested in are? It's all about money. They think they have to get a return on their investment, even if that player is bad and continues to be bad. Why did it take so long to DFA Duffey. How about Sano? How many chances did he get? Look at Kepler. He continues to take at bats away from players that could and probably would outperform him by a landslide. Hey, you gotta keep 'em and try to get your moneys worth. Which looks worse? Keeping players that aren't very good that are getting paid millions or releasing them and showing your mistakes by signing those crap players in the first place?
  21. The whiff boys were at it again. 16 K's and Gallo wasn't even in the lineup. Sure glad Kepler and Garlick are better suited to play in the majors over Wallner. (Yeah, that's sarcasm). As for Gallo, Correa and Buxton being out due to injuries or illness..... well I guess that is why they scored 1 run today instead of ZERO. Castro got to play at 3B due to Farmer having to play in Correa's abscence at SS and got the only run. As bad as the other 3 have been playing they probably wouldn't have scored at all had they been in the lineup. Tell me how Popkes (the hitting coach) is retaining his job? If they can't hit because of him he should be fired. If they can't hit and he has nothing to do with it, then he isn't needed. Either way they are worse than bad and something needs to be done.
  22. I have no faith in the coaching staff to help Jax and Lopez "find their stuff". 2 months in and no sign of it happening. The reason why this team isn't as good as what it could be is because the veterans are bad. Correa, Gallo, Kepler, Taylor, and Buxton are being outhit by guys like Solano, Farmer, Castro, Jeffers, and Kirilloff. They need to bring Wallner back and give Kepler his walking papers. Gallo and his 2 or 3 strikeouts every game doesn't help either so he should be on the same bus as Kepler. Buxton needs to go back to CF and see if that doesn't jump start his bat. Taylor needs to be a bench/late game defensive replacement ONLY. Correa is one of the most over-rated and over-paid players in the game. I cringe every time I think of him playing in a Twins uniform for the next 6 years or more. He'll be one of the biggest busts ever. I hoped for a youth movement at the end of last season and the FO went the opposite way. Julien, Lewis, Kirilloff, Larnach, Jeffers, Miranda, Wallner are the future and should be playing instead of the bums we got now. It was a great game last night winning 8-2 but the old K bug was still there to the tune of 14 whiffs. You just can't be consistant offensively when you miss that often.
  23. Too many bad decisions are being made by the FO and Rocco to take this team seriously. I don't know about you but I'm sure glad Kepler has replaced Wallner in the lineup. 2 games back and he's 0 fer 9 with 4 K's. Impressive! But he'll play no matter how good Wallner was or is. Buxton has proven he's not good in the DH role but they won't move him back to CF because a healthy non-productive Buxton is better than one that is injured. How does that make sense? Is next to nothing really all that much better than nothing? They are taking a probable superstar and making him a one dimensional average to below average player. Good move there wiseguys. As for the hitters getting better due to coming back to the norm, the pitchers will do the same, as we are starting to see. Ownership needs to realize and remember the FO has assembled this lineup that strikeouts out at an impressive rate, quite possible of setting a MLB record this year. Oh well, the Twins have the HR record, they might as well have the K record too. Every year they tout how much better the team is going to be verses last year, feeding the hype to the fans. 2023 looks to be another repeat of disappointment and failure. The young guys need to play. Kepler, Gallo, Buxton, Correa, Taylor, Vazquez aren't getting it done but they are the veterans getting the big bucks so that's who we get regardless, When the ship sinks again this year, remember who didn't throw out the dead weight.
  24. If a roster lineup of 1st and 2nd round draft picks can be comfortably constructed then why doesn't it happen? Roster crunches resulting in good players being affected is partly Rocco's fault. The musical chairs lineup is of his doing. We all see it. This is titled "Time to do Something Different". Maybe one of those things is for Rocco to set a lineup that would actually be the same for more than a day or two and go with it, playing only his best players consistantly everyday for a couple of weeks and see if that doesn't jump start these guys into making better contact and getting some timely hits. Bench players are suppose to be that, not shuffled into the lineup at every opportunity taking at bats away from your best hitters. As for the FO acting at the trade deadline.... that is not going to instill any confidence in any Twins fan right now. Both Mahle and Lopez have done nothing for this team since they have arrived and those moves looks to be a total failure for the Twins. The FO also didn't help this team by signing Free Agents (Gallo, Taylor, Castro) that couldn't hit. If anyone that is running this team has their eyes open, they should notice a very disturbing trend that even the players that use to be able to hit with some consistancy, now cannot. Changes need to be made. It is one thing to address one or two players that are not hitting by the coaches, but when it is basically the whole team then it is not a player issue but a coaching, managing issue. Since when do Managers get rewarded for getting their players to play below their ability? The wrong message is being sent from the top. That mediocrity is okay. We've seen it for three years now. Nothing will change until Ownership demands more and the fans need to stop going to games and supporting this feeble attempt at being a playoff caliber team.
  25. It's funny that Buxton is considered the teams offensive MVP. He surely can't be consider for it defensively. And his .230 batting average is one of the teams best. Let's take a quick look at most of the hitters the FO has bet on this season to be difference makers. The Twins getting paid big money and their respective BA this year. Correa (($33.3M) .215, Buxton ($15.1M) .230, Gallo ($11M) .203, Vazquez ($10M) .227, Kepler ($8.5M) .212, Polanco ($7.5M) .284, Farmer ($5.6M) .275, Taylor ($4.5M) .212. Is it any wonder why this team struggles to score runs when they don't hit HR's. Outside of Polanco and Farmer, who have been hurt, the rest of them can't hit.
