  1. That was my impression too. Sure, as others have noted, it's a small sample size, but once he was called up, he seemed confident, if not fearless. Hope he can help the club this year too.
  2. Cool article. I hadn't thought about Rick Reed in many years. Never an exciting player but steady ... and serviceable, as they would say. In those days, the Twins needed some stability in the rotation and he certainly provided that.
  3. That was my thought too. It's a tough call. Solano ended up being a valuable player for the Twins last year, at least in his limited but versatile role. The guy can hit! But, as the original post noted, the Twins don't seem to have as big a need for his services this year than last. But also, as Tony&Rodney just posted, it's still relatively early (did I just say that?!) in the off season and depending on trades and players added and/or moved, the Twins might feel the need to sign him up again. Heck, last year he wasn't signed until the start of spring training, if I remember correctly, so he could still end up with the Twins again. And as much as I want to see the young prospects getting playing time, I also value Solano's experience.
  4. We saw him near the end of his career, and Twins fans gave him a lot of grief, but back in his younger years with the Braves he was an amazing shortstop.
  5. Very sad news. I was a season ticket holder for the Orlando Twins back in 1992, but I have only a vague recollection of seeing Pulido play. Back in those days I was much more excited about a young pitcher named Pat Mahomes! Anyway, very informative article. I didn't realize that Pulido had come back to play for the Twins a second time back in 2002-3. Thanks for digging up all the stats and details. As others have noted, 52 is much too young to leave this planet.
  6. Interesting post. Hey, crazy trade ideas are always fun. One man's crazy is another man's plan. Who knows what these guys in the front office are thinking at this point? Hopefully, the egg nog effect has worn off and they can get down to some serious trading business in the coming days. I like the idea of dealing with Cincinnati again, although they have been very aggressive so far this off season. After that Mahle fiasco, they certainly owe us something back. Not that I'm expecting them to feel grateful, but it's a thought.
  7. Yeah, I think they hold on to Miranda and see how he performs in a healthy state this season. And as you noted, he doesn't have a whole lot of trade value right now. As for Ty France, I just don't think he would be worth trading for, prospects or even vets. As Tony & Rodney posted, Polanco has more value, even with a shorter contract.
  8. Very good article! Obviously, both of these pitchers have great stuff and tons of potential. Hoping they can stay healthy will be a concern, plus monitoring the number of innings they throw. Not sure if Canterino could still be a starter or not. Maybe we can put off that decision for a while and see how he adapts to the bullpen. In any case, hoping for a healthy and productive year from both players.
  9. You could be right, I was wondering about the Goodrum signing. I always liked him, and he seems suited for the role that Farmer played for us last year. But still ... I really like Farmer and hope we can keep him.
  10. The post proclaimed that Wallner was "clearly born to play right field", but I've also read other posts that maintain the Twins keeping him left field is the best option. I'm not arguing about either one, because I'm honestly not sure which position suits him best. But I'm wondering why he might be better suited in right field. As for Kepler, I don't know if he'd be comfortable with that switch or not, but seeing as how we have Castro, Gordon and maybe Martin as CF options next season, I don't see a big need for Kepler to move over there too.
  11. I was thinking the same thing. Players having to have the thoracic outlet syndrome surgery seem to very seldom have success rates. But hey, it's a cheap signing. The main worry is having him on the 40-man roster.
  12. Speaking of Dobnak, will he get an invite to Spring Training?
  13. I agree. I also enjoyed hearing Archer talk after games, or in other interviews. Very bright and personable player.
  14. A healthy year of Royce Lewis will be beyond wonderful! MVP? Well, at some point. Let's get him in the All-Star game and go from there!
  15. It sounds like the Reds are moving Steer permanently to left field next season.
  16. Great article. Seeing the photos of those old baseball cards brings back some great memories of those days gone by, when opening up packs of cards and wondering which players would pop out, and listening to ball games on AM radio, because there was no other choice expect for the Saturday game of the week.
  17. Yes indeed, that Joe Smith thing happened MANY years ago, back in the days before my hair started turning gray!
  18. Reminiscing about the good old days and hoping Sano can get it together again is a lovely idea, in theory. But in reality, I don't think he would have any role on our current team. Unless, he can do an Ohtani and dazzle up with his pitching prowess.
  19. Meanwhile, the Joey Gallo watch continues ...
  20. Good to see that Burdi is still hanging around. Never say never, right?
  21. I have no recollection of this guy!
  22. I recall a few years back, before he went to the Yankees, when many Twins fans were hopeful that we could acquire Montas. But, then the injuries came and he wasn't the same pitcher. Of course we are all wondering if he can rebound and pitch like he did 3 years ago. Is it worth the risk? Sure, it depends on the amount of the contract and the length, but it sounds like a reasonable gamble for the Twins.
  23. Honestly, I've never noticed this player before. Not sure it it's something the Twins would want to, or need to, think about. But I appreciate the deep dive into analyzing the possible benefits. At this point, with a limited budget, the Twins need to look at possible acquisitions like this or other trades that might land us a player with untapped potential. But as others have already written, Ashcraft doesn't seem to be that exciting.
  24. I don't regret that the Twins took a chance on the likes of Bundy and Archer, and even Rich Hill. They pretty much pitched as expected. Of course, there was always the hope that they would be even better, or show flashes of their younger selves, but that just wasn't meant to be. But I think when we signed those players we really needed to fill the rotation with some veteran arms due to the scarcity of capable pitching prospects ready for the next step. This year that isn't the case. We have several guys in the system that can fill the role of 4th or 5th starter. The problem is finding that extra arm that can make a real difference and help us get in the playoffs again. It looks like trading for such an arm is our only real option this year.
  25. I'm not sure if he'll get the chance either. It doesn't sound like he has made any sort of remarkable turnaround. Maybe it's a question of too much too soon, and he got lazy. He turns 31 in May, so he ain't a strong candidate for a quick rebound. But yeah, overall it's a shame, because he seemed to have real potential.
