  1. Seeing as how the Rangers are unlikely to make the playoffs at this point, the thought of the Twins possibly picking up Lynn crossed my mind earlier in the week ... and I immediately dismissed the idea as ridiculous. But .... I could see it happening. I don't want to see it happen, but it wouldn't shock me. But hey, if they want another starter I sure hope they are aiming higher.
  2. As surprisingly good as the Rangers have been this year, I doubt they will make the playoffs. Based on their history in the Daniels-era, the Rangers will most likely try to trade Minor for prospects. I would love for the Twins to have him. I think he would be a great addition to the rotation. And he still has another year on his contract, right?
  3. Looking over the top prospects list I was reminded of Akil Baddoo and his injury. Apologies if this question was answered in a previous thread: I assume he's out for the rest of this season but what's the timeline for his return next year?
  4. Looking at the Prospects List, at #15, Matt Wallner is a name I don't recall seeing before. Or at least I never paid any attention. What's his story and why is he rated so highly?
  5. I'd have to agree with that opinion, which is something I didn't think I would be saying a few months ago. I know that most on this board thought the Cruz signing was a very good one at the time, but I had my doubts. An aging slugger approaching 40 years old? How much can he have left in the tank? Well, quite a bit it looks like. I'm happy to have been proved wrong about my less than enthusiastic reaction to his signing. And hey, that Martin Perez signing looks pretty good too!
  6. This whole team has been a bunch of surprises, pleasantly so. the glow is still there! As you noted, it's good to see Buxton cutting down on his strikeouts. And hey, he has 42 RBI at the break, a very impressive stat for someone batting at the bottom of the order. I only hope he becomes more than a .250 hitter.
  7. Yeah, the Twins should have had, or maybe they still will, another player or two in the All-Star Game, but I also agree with your "give them a rest" idea. Most of the starters seem either tired or banged up at this juncture and few extra days rest might not be such a bad idea.
  8. Nice report on Adrianza. As you noted, he wasn't even hitting his weight the first month or so. I wouldn't have been surprised if the team HAD released him at that point. But hey, patience is a wonderful thing, and he has certainly rewarded the team's belief in his abilities. I knew he had been hitting much better in the past month, but I'm really astonished at the big numbers he's put up during that stretch. Probably not sustainable, but it sure is fun is see him playing well.
  9. Sorry, but I have to give a thumbs down on those uniforms. Once was enough.
  10. It seems like every time I read about Jaylin Davis he has done something good. I know he's not considered a top prospect, but would he be a guy that could fit into a utility role on the big league club, maybe like Jake Cave, in the next year or so?
  11. Reading this part: Bryon Gandy, the Twins 32nd-round pick out of Lurleen B Wallace St JC Ha! I wonder how many out there even remember who Lurleen Wallace was? That mention really brings back some weird memories. Sweet Home Alabama, indeed!
  12. First time I have noticed the name Luis Rijo. Hmm. ... some impressive stats in these recent games. What would be his approximate prospect ranking at this point? Is he a pitcher to keep an eye on?
  13. Good to see some positive results from Lewis for a change. But yeah, it's been a struggle for him this year. Let's hope he's shaken off the rust, or whatever the problem is/was, and starts producing like he did last year.
  14. No big surprise. And I'll sleep fine tonight. History has shown us that the Twins will almost NEVER be in the running for top tier free agents. We just need to keep doing what we've been doing this year, take chances on intriguing rejects from other teams, and keep hitting the ball like we've been doing. If it takes 12 runs to win these games, let's do it!
  15. For the sake of their locker room dining table, I hope they didn't grab Paul Prudhomme too!
  16. I gotta agree with your mindset. I used to get really worked up about which Twin (or in good years, Twins plural) "deserved" to be on the All-Star team each year.. But in recent years I just don't care that much any longer. A good percentage of the choices are totally undeserved, so why worry about it. Sure, it will be nice to see a handful of Twins get picked, but ultimately, I don't care either way. Let's focus on the playoffs!
  17. Great story! Congrats to Smeltzer on a fantastic almost storybook-like debut (getting a win would have been sweet, but hey, you can't have it all!). But Buxton bouncing off the outfield wall again causes my heart to skip a beat. I DON'T want to see him injured again.
  18. I haven't heard LaTroy speak on air but I love your reference to Amelia Bedelia and those "I Can Read!" books. We still sell those at my bookshop!
  19. Good thing we were able to trade Dozier when we did and get a couple of decent prospects. With his poor play so far this year, I doubt he'd fetch much of anything at all at this point.
  20. Yes, the bullpen overuse can become a big problem quickly. But don't forget Harper and Parker and are also looking good, plus we should a couple of guys back from the IL soon too. And Meija is bound to improve, right? I wouldn't have said this in spring training, but at this point I have faith in this bullpen.
  21. After all the anxiety and lack of confidence in our bullpen, I detect more positive signs lately. Might the bullpen even be one of the team's strengths by year's end?
  22. I'm really encouraged by the way that Pineda has pitched so far. What a nice addition to the starting rotation! But ... the concern is how durable he will be this year after his long post-injury layoff. This has probably been mentioned by someone already, and if so I apologize, but do the Twins have Pineda on any sort of pitch or innings limit this season?
  23. That was the first thing I thought about when I saw the insane number of home runs in that game: are they using a juiced ball in that league?
