  1. It will be interesting to see what Avila does as he joins another former Twins catcher to go to the Nats. The other (Suzuki) had very good success. We'll see. I hope Jeffers can do the job.
  2. I never could understand why Hall Of Fame candidates are on the ballot for so long. If they don't make it after 3 years on the ballot, they should be gone. After all, they don't get any better. I would still put Bonds and Clemens and even Sosa in the Hall. I also would have voted for Helton and Sheffield. How they can leave Helton off with his stats is a mystery to me. But I would set minimum standards for automatic entry into the Hall and dump much of the writer's voting if I were in charge. However many are held out because of their character which has increased in importance in recent years. That's why Visquel is out.
  3. I am not a fan of Lewis so I'll take Kiriloff but I'm willing to give Lewis a shot. However, I would trade Lewis for an established star that I can control for at least 2 years or pitcher like Castillo
  4. While he wasn't my first choice, it's a good signing but I wish they would have gotten him for 2 years. I'm not at all high on Lewis nor do I like the idea of Arreaz moving around so much but so be it. We don't need his offense though he won't strike out like Sano or others. His defense is almost as good as landing a 5th starter as he will help the pitchers a lot.
  5. In NC there is also a problem with hockey telecasts. I have DirecTV and sometimes get a break in the over-charges they have. You gotta keep calling. I generally follow my teams until the second half of the season then can subscribe to the Extra Innings package and get all Twins games except vs Baltimore and Washington (we have both MASN channels). However, this year- without leaving the house much due to COVID (yes, it will continue into June at least then return in the fall), I will probably pay for the full season for all teams (didn't know you could do just 1 team but the full season is only about $150). But radio (not available that I know) would bring me back to the days of sneaking a transistor under my pillow as a kid.
  6. I can't understand why everyone seems to be giving up on Cruz. He was the ONLY Twin to get more than 1 hit in the playoffs and the only one to get an extra base hit. So much for the second half slump. Over 162 (or whatever) games, he can be rested enough to be fresher in the last half. I don't know his stats in the last half of the '19 season but he did ok in the loss to the Yankees. We need pitching more than anything and that should be the focus. If the NL decides to have the DH, Cruz may become too expensive but that will come later.
  7. Arraez should be a lock at 2B. I would not count on Thielbar or Stashak as bullpen locks. Thielbar had his good season and Stashak is a question mark. Polanco is a lock somewhere but it could be at SS or maybe DH. Kirilloff should be a lock but the team won't play him at first to save a year of control. Hopefully Dhuran can help at SP or we can re-sign Odorizzi (and Hill if still available). Pitching is most important. The more I look at Simmons, the more I like the possibility. And am also hoping for Cruz. With hockey starting this week, I'm excited. Let's get going.
  8. In Lynn's defense, he never had a Spring Training when we had him and only rarely got into a decent pitching rhythm when on our team. The Mets clearly got the best of the Lindor trade but time will tell after 2-3 years. Don't count the Royals out as they have some good young pitchers. They aren't ready to challenge the Twins or White Sox but could make some noise. Detroit's chances hinge on whether they can resign Schoop and/or Cron (who may be hurt) and whether Hinch can attract some players as he is the best manager in the Central. We are lucky right now to be in perhaps the easiest division.
  9. I can't really consider most prospects to be on this list. My feeling about prospects has always been that, if they are valuable, they should be up in the majors. Of course, there are some who are of value and should not be traded so could be considered. My list would be 1- Maeda 2- Berrios 3- Buxton 4-Donaldson 5- Arreaz 6- Kirilloff (the lone minor leaguer in the top 10) 7- Duffy 8- Kepler (not really as valuable as some have him) 9- Alcala 10- Rogers (our only proven closer). Garver would be just outside this list as would Larnach and Dhuran. I would have included Cruz at #3 and Odorizzi at #6 and back everyone else up if they were on the team. Just my opinion.
  10. If I were to choose 3 players, I would choose Maeda, Garver and Rogers. Maeda was great in 2020 but now the league knows more about him so it is imperative that he maintains his high level of success. It may help that the West and East teams have not seen him. Garver was a bust last year and needs to bounce back to decency to settle the catching position. Rogers was less than what we need at the closer position and, if we don't get Hand or Colombe, will be counted on to bounce back. Right behind them would be Sano (if he is still here) and Donaldson to stay healthy.
  11. Gray and Marquez would be nice to have. Maybe we could package Sano and Lewis for them and even throw in a couple of A ball prospects. Story is another question. I think we can do better in the free agent market if we still want to sign a shortstop. Colorado is in a tough situation because they have some good pieces but can't get past the Dodgers and now Padres. So what do they do? Hopefully we can re-sign Odorizzi and that he is healthy. That would help.
  12. It's great fun to compare the prospect reports from year to year and see how many actually make it, with which teams they make it and how many of the top prospects are never heard from. Trying to develop this year's book is a challenge so it will be interesting. It can be very tough in any year to rank a prospect who is only in A ball or below.
  13. Obviously nobody wants Polanco to play short next season. Rumors have the Twins signing Semien. I would rather have Didi but would rather not trade for Baez- as good as he is. What does Lewis have left to do before getting a shot at becoming the regular shortstop? I'd put Polanco there, let Lewis back him up by playing twice a week to see what he can do. Otherwise, 3 years from now we'll be talking about why he never got a chance (though I'm not sold on him ever making it). If we are going to give up prospects, I'd rather do it for pitching.
  14. It's hard to tell whether this is a good signing but 2 mil is high for the past season. Let's hope he can contribute something positive and not be taking a spot from a youngster with better outcomes.
  15. I'm not sold on Thorpe and we'll have to see if Dobnick can bounce back. It would be nice to see a solid, 5 man rotation but today's games are won with a solid bullpen which we have seemingly lost since the end of the season. Let's shore that up and then build the youngsters.
  16. The Twins need to focus their energies on signing pitching and not on a utility player or new shortstop. If they keep Polanco at short (which I believe they should), then sign Profar as a utility player. If they go out and sign another shortstop, then trade Polanco for some value. I'm not crazy about any of the other choices though I'd take Didi over anyone else. As far as second, leave Arraez alone and hope that he continues to hit.
  17. Buxton would be great if we could keep him on the field but he's too injury prone. Cave has improved a bit but is not your every day answer. Bradley would be a good backup if we would sign him. At least he prevents runs. I don't see any of the minor leaguers as being an answer but would be curious to see how Urbina develops.
  18. If Hand is so wanting to pitch here, he should be able to be signed for a bargain- say 2 years at 12 million tops. I had read reports that he was slowing down a bit but he has been a top reliever and would be a boost to the pen. The problem is when will he slow down. Relievers tend to go 4-5 solid years then suddenly stop being effective. Also, signing both Hand and Hendricks makes no sense as both are closers and may not want to pitch in any other role. We also need a starter or two. Why not Paxton if he's healthy? We also have prospects to trade to get a starter or two like Castillo. Other teams have good, young strong pitchers for middle relief. How about us? Alcala? He looks ready since we were stupid to release Wisler.
  19. There should be no reason not to plan for a full season now that the vaccine is here. They can always have an alternative number of plans if teams get hit by the virus. All teams have lost money and will continue to lose money as long as they can't get at least 25% of the stadiums filled. They will then gain money once this is all over in 2022. If owners weren't so stupid to pay marginal players bunches of dollars, they wouldn't have lost as much as they (presumably) have.
  20. Though I was never the biggest fan of the Donaldson signing, I'm surprised that almost nobody mentioned the possibility of Sano moving back over- even if temporarily. Sano wasn't great but he wasn't terrible either. And first base might be easier to fill than third. I hope Gonzalez is resigned and that Donaldson doesn't get hurt again but chances are he will miss some games at some point.
  21. I think Rogers deserves another shot. His control wasn't that good in spots but there were times that he made good pitches that were hit off the end of the bat, etc. I still like Tony Watson of the Giants as a lefty specialist and would definitely try to re-sign May. A lower profile pitcher with closer experience like Soria or Trenien or keeping Clippard would help but we haven't had much luck in signing relievers from other teams. I would not count on Thielbar having a similar season to this year but he was a nice story. Alcala should continue to improve.
  22. I'd still put people in the stands with 4-5 per row, every other row and every other end of the row. That would get about 25-35% in the seats. I'd also have seat-side food and drink delivery and a monitor at the bathrooms. As far as free agents, there is always talk of salaries for many going down- especially those non tendered but it doesn't always happen. The top salaried players and those who happened to have a breakout year will get (over)paid. However, evaluating the free agents for next year is very tricky due to the shortened season. I would think there will be a flurry before Christmas then a break until Spring Training starts.
  23. There doesn't seem to be much here though Waddell could be ok. I can't see why they would let May go. I think that is a big mistake if they don't re-sign him. Clippard has the experience but generally doesn't do well but once every 3 seasons. I'm looking for bigger and better fish.
  24. I would keep Littell on the 40 man roster. The guy has proven that he can pitch in the majors even with a small sample. The only other option would be to trade him for a 6th or 7th round draft choice but I would not do this. Give him one more shot. You can always release him later.
  25. Hey. I'm an Atari man myself- not to mention a Radio Shack TRS-80
