  1. Probably due to FCC regulations against obscene materials. Edit: Ninja'd by wsnydes
  2. You know, I bet if he held it just right, he could dribble a ball over to the left side of the infield where they have no defenders. Might be on to something here....
  3. MILB has announced that Cedar Rapids will play the Quad Cities on August 9 at the Field of Dreams site in Dyersville, IA, two days before the Cubs face the Reds. https://www.milb.com/news/quad-cities-river-bandits-to-host-cedar-rapids-kernels-at-field-of-dreams
  4. Don't eliminate the shift, mandate it! All fielders, minus the pitcher and catcher, must start the play on the batter's pull side of second base. Watch how quickly players learn to hit the other way!
  5. That's awesome that you really believe I said anything about it lowering ticket/cable prices (or getting coupons??). All I said was if the owners are going to get more money, I'd rather they get it from ad patches than from raising prices on anything I might pay for, with tickets and cable being two examples of things they could raise prices on. And I'll pre-emptively add, don't read here what I'm not saying, because I am not saying this guarantees those prices will never go up. TLDR; The ad patches don't bother me.
  6. I guess I'd rather they make money off the players' backs (possibly literally) with an ad patch, than mine by jacking up ticket prices or cable package prices or whatever.
  7. About the only thing more preposterous than the idea of moving Buxton to DH is the idea that just because someone has 26K Twitter followers means they're a voice that should be listened to.
  8. Cuz once the runner from second moved to third you should just run the guy from third back to third. They then have two runners at third, you tag the "lead" runner and he's out. Instead Sanchez risked throwing the ball way or letting the runner get around the throw and score.
  9. Buck and Correa get 'em back. Calling it.
  10. So we traded one year of a good reliever (coming off a season-ending injury) and a guy we were about to shove out the door for nothing, for two years of a decent reliever and three years of a currently struggling, but potential mid-rotation starter. I'll take that.
  11. I think I'd go: Buxton (CF) Arraez (DH) Correa (SS) Polanco (2B) Kiriloff (LF) Sano (1B) Urshela (3B) Kepler (RF) Jeffers/Sanchez (C)
  12. My original entry into Twins blogosphere was following Batgirl. When she called it quits I ended up following Nick Nelson's blog, and shortly after that he and the others joined forces to create Twins Daily, so I followed him here. What keeps me here is both the depth of the coverage, especially into the minor leagues and prospects, and the breadth of views, from all the contributors and fellow readers. Reading and seeing that broad range of view points helps provide a more complete picture of any topic.
  13. My idea for an unconventional staff is having three sets of three pitchers that all throw three innings each every three days. Mix and match lefties and righties in each group so opponents can't just stack their lineup to one side. Also try to mix different pitch styles, flamethrowers with guys with nasty breaking stuff, etc. Those three groups take up 9 roster spots, which still leaves you with 3-4 guys for spot matchups, or relief for someone having an off day, or just to give someone a day off every now and then. Since they're only pitching three innings they can throw a little harder than if they were trying to go six or seven innings, and they only need to have two decent pitches since they're only facing most batters just once.
  14. This just makes me feel like Iowans will get screwed by MLB yet again..."Oh, you're in the home market for 6 teams, so your in-market streaming will actually be $120/month, not $20/month"
  15. 2009 games 162 & 163. Making the four hour drive to Minneapolis for 162, and then back home through the middle of the night while friends spent half the trip calling the box office over and over until they could get through to buy tickets for 163. Then making the drive again the next day for 163. And then the amazingness that game 163 was.
  16. For the current uniforms I'd go Red, Navy Blue, White, Powder Blue for home, and Navy Blue, Grey for away. My all-time favorite though is the home cream pinstripes.
  17. Considering Rocco can do nothing right according to these forums I'm sure if he had intervened there'd be a big article and barrage of comments saying he was squashing his players fiery competitive spirit and babying them, etc. I have no problem with Rocco not stepping in here, Cruz and Watkins were both right there. And that conversation was nowhere close to getting out of hand. It barely, if even, qualifies as "heated" in my opinion. Josh could have handled it better than calling out his teammate on the field, but to me it looked and sounded like all he said was "Come on, let's go!" cuz Arraez clearly was not ready for the play to start, whether he was checking the outfielders positioning or staring out at the clouds.
  18. I don't think 5/$100 will get you even close to signing Buxton. I'm guessing his ask will start somewhere more around 6/$200, and his actual signing will be something like 5/$150. There are a few teams with enough money to take on the risk of a contract that size, and the potential payoff if he stays healthy is enormous. Buxton and his agent know this, and will not accept less. I wouldn't if I were him anyway.
  19. I like the idea of giving two bases for a HBP, but agree it has to be accompanied by more severe and/or enforced rules for players leaning into pitches. Is the current rule only that a batter can't move into the way of a pitch in order to get hit intentionally, or is the current rule that a batter must attempt to move out of the way of a pitch? Super-crazy, half-baked idea off the top of my head: if balls and strikes start being called automatically by robo umps, could you incentivize less inside pitching by making a called strike that ends up middle-middle (in the nine box grid often seen in strike zone graphics) be worth two strikes? Incentivizes pitching to the heart of the zone, which means less HBP, less walks, more good pitches for batters to hit, which increases offense and means less pitches per at bat, starters can go deeper into the game, less pitching changes, and faster pace of play. Incentivizes batters to be more aggressive early in the count, since called strikes down the middle are now worse you better make sure you're swinging at them. De-incentivizes selling out for power as one whiff means you're now one pitch away from a strike out.
  20. That's a trick you try in little league just to see if they fall for it. An MLB player falling for that is inexcusable.
  21. Why we all continue to come to the game threads...
  22. Add the fact that there's a decent chance there won't be a 2022 season, and the urgency to trade Berrios (and others) this year increases.
