  1. You forgot the most obvious candidate, a Twins Daily reader! There are numerous people every day on here who obviously feel they could do a better job than Rocco. 😄 More seriously, is there a reason you didn't include Tingler? A former manager and the current bench coach, who filled in as manager whenever Rocco was unavailable? Not asking as a complaint, but out of curiosity, as in, is there something I'm unaware of the would preclude him from consideration?
  2. I've advocated for similar approaches in the past. View the entire pitching staff more fluidly, instead of starters who go 5+ (ideally) and then a parade of relievers who go an inning each. As seen by the multiple options in the article and other comments, there are various ways of doing this, but in general, group your pitchers into sets of two or three primary pitchers with a handful of spot relievers. Mix and match various characteristics of the pitchers: righty/lefty, high/low arm slot, high velo / wicked movement, etc. You can do 4 pairs of 2 piggy-backing primary pitchers plus 5 more traditional relievers who come in for specific spots. Or 3 sets of 3 piggy-backing pitchers plus 4 spot relievers, etc. This lets pitchers go max effort as long as they can, focusing on just their best 2 or 3 pitches. Mess with the opposing manager's bench/platoon options. Mess with batters' timing. Don't let batters see a pitcher more than twice (a lot of times only once) per game so they can't get a read on pitches for later at bats. As has been said, there will be pushback from players at first, but I think they could be won over as they see the benefits. It will require a different mindset when valuing pitchers in arbitration and free agent negotiations, but over time that will also adjust to fit the new normal.
  3. They have an extremely poorly formatted/presented table of the broadcast schedule here. I copied that into Excel and cleaned it up best I could.
  4. Perhaps if they captioned their pictures they'd realize they put a picture of the wrong person at the top of the article.
  5. It would be good to see whether or not the umpire actually granted time. Video I've seen doesn't show the umpire, but Buck clearly is under the impression he's been granted time, but it's possible he's mistaken. Also, isn't arguing a pitch-click violation an automatic ejection? If both those things are true, he wasn't actually granted time and arguing violations is an auto ejection, then the ump is right. Could have handled it better, but still right. Now, if either of those things is not true, that is, if Buck was granted time and the clock was not reset like it should have been, or arguing a violation is not an auto ejection, then the ump is clearly in the wrong in my opinion. If time was granted but the clock didn't reset, then ump needs to be smart enough to know when he's buzzed for the violation that it is a mistake and not call the violation. Or, if the violation was legit, but arguing is not an auto ejection, then there was no need to eject Buck as he was calmly and respectfully arguing. He wasn't throwing a tantrum or disrespecting the ump in any way.
  6. There's a lot of speculation about Kepler's motivation and thought process in that article being unfairly presented as fact. Watching it on TV I was surprised he didn't score, but even Cory on the broadcast immediately mentioned Tommy's conflicting signals, and yes you can clearly see Max's frustration with Tommy immediately after the play. I think there's enough blame here for each of them to take some. Max does need to be more aware of the situation/play for himself, but when your coach changes his signals THREE times you have every right to be confused about what to do. Remember, Max can't see what's going on behind him, so even though he should have an idea what he's going to do as he rounds second before picking up Tommy, he is relying on Tommy for final confirmation on whether to go or not. All that said, I do agree that it seems this whole team has been a little lifeless lately. Things aren't going well and everyone seems be sorta going through the motions just hoping it will get better. No excitement or fire when when someone makes a good play or big hit, no picking each other up or encouragement when someone makes a mistake, mental lapses, poor fundamentals, not taking the extra base, etc. I think this team is sorely missing Correa's leadership.
  7. Yes! This has bothered me for years on this site. They always have pictures captioned with the photo credit and nothing else. As a reader, I don't care one bit about who took the picture, but I'm sure they're legally required to add that. But, since you already have to take the time to caption it with the credit, why not take an extra 5 seconds to at least add who is in the picture! Even better, depending on the article and picture, maybe add other relevant details like, what's going on in the picture (for example, if it's not a close up of an individual say "Twins vs Guardians 8/9/24" or "Team workout, Spring Training '24"), when was it taken, how does it relate to the article, etc.
  8. If the game gets delayed because the sprinkler system comes on, or some such thing, I'll totally give you credit for calling it.
  9. I'm guessing Farmer goes on the IL with ineffectivitis.
  10. Don't add Fubo, drop cable and switch to Fubo. The only thing that will motivate discussions to progress is when they start losing customers over it.
  11. I buy the argument they shouldn't be eligible due to the fact they're not prospects coming up through a team's minors, and the point of the compensation is to encourage teams to call up prospects from the minors. But I don't buy the argument that "they're not really rookies". Japan and other countries are catching up in terms of quality, but they still don't match MLB, and there's no guarantee they will succeed in the MLB. Exhibit A: Nishioka.
  12. 1. Umps could do so much for themselves if they would just drop the egos and admit when they screwed up. To me, the most egregious thing about the Boone ejection was Wendelstedt telling him "You're probably right, but I don't care!" Just admit when you screw up and apologize, and players, coaches, and fans will all start to give you more grace when they see some humility and contrition. I'll never forget Jim Joyce and Armando Galaraga meeting at home plate the next day and Joyce nearly in tears. I gained a ton of respect for Joyce right there. 2. We have the technology to get balls and strikes consistently right. There is no excuse to not use it. 3. I like the idea (I think it was DeGrom?) of official umpire evaluations being made public and at the end of the year the bottom 5% are relegated to AAA and the top AAA umps promoted.
  13. Lineup prediction: LF - Margot DH - Jeffers CF - Buxton 3B - Miranda 1B - Santana SS - Castro RF - Kepler 2B - Farmer C - Vazquez
  14. Yeah, crappy treatment from the Dodgers, but not sure why you'd complain to the Twins front office about it? It has nothing to do with the Twins.
  15. Churio trying to throw out Buxton at 3rd from deep right, lol.
  16. It's possible for things to be true, but still misleading. I agree that it was confusing and misleading writing. I understand what you were trying to do, but it didn't work.
  17. Considering some of the alternatives, I'll take that.
  18. Nevermind, just weather. I wasn't seeing anything anywhere, but just found this: https://www.mlb.com/press-release/press-release-twins-braves-spring-training-march-22-2024-game-canceled-due-to-inclement-weather
  19. Anyone know why today's games have been cancelled? Hoping nothing bad has happened...
  20. I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt that you're just being facetious here, and that you DO actually understand the difference between pulling a pitcher from a long inning in a meaningless practice game to prevent injury and allowing him to re-enter the next inning clean, vs reinserting a hitter who was pulled just because you now want the matchup. And honestly, if they made a rule that allowed reinserting hitters during spring training, I'd be ok with it. Say you want to get your young lefty second baseman some additional at bats against left handed pitching, go ahead and put him back in. It's spring training, that's what all of this is for!
  21. Yeah, seems a more apt comp would be Andrelton Simmons - all glove, no bat. Seems like getting a right-handed 4th OF, which this team needed, $5.5m, and a lottery ticket infielder is a decent return.

  23. Now that the Twins have a broadcast partner, has anyone seen a spring training tv/radio broadcast schedule? I'm ready to watch/listen to some baseball!
  24. If they give it to me for free I'll be sure to credit them any time post about the Twins on social media. Think of the exposure they'll get!
