Brewers 4, Twins 3: Lara And Bauers Are WPA Merchants, Twins Lose Series

Those of you who have run the quarter will understand what I mean when I say that this race for the postseason is just leaving the last curve and heading into the final, long, tortuous straightaway. I think that the division will be too difficult to win considering the fact that the surprising Sox have five fewer losses at this point. The last wildcard spot is, however, still within reach but the Twins will need to power to the finish by playing over .600 ball the rest of the way.

Every game is becoming crucial.

The AL Central Division is still realistic but things have to go their way in a few cases. This next week is another big test.

A small nitpick, but their two catchers I do not believe have that sprint speed or does Yelich any more.  But the point still stands that we need more speed and athleticism.

Yes.  Get Walker up here too.  The Twins have lsot 6 of their last 8 games.  They played entertaining but losing ball in Milwaukee.  Not unexpected.  After they play the Orioles they have the Phillies, Braves, and Padres before returning to central division play.

Correct. I used BaseballSavant, where it shows 17 Brewers and 16 Twins for that 12-2 tally of sprint speeds of 28 ft/sec or better. The actual numbers for the recent series are 8-1, a large difference.

The idea behind the comment was to highlight the stark difference between the teams and account for why a Twin going all out does not get to a fly ball or ground ball, take the extra base, or is safe at home on a close play (as we saw yesterday), while the Brewer player is able to finish plays in their favor. It is a difficult discrepancy to overcome.

I do agree with the stark contrast, but they are a fun team to watch, just not when they are playing us.

Nobody likes to see the “collar” for anyone near top of line-up but it ended a 19 game on base streak and a 14 game hitting streak - eventually, particularly if facing Miz & Ashby, bad things are going to happen.

It is one thing to bunt for a hit successfully when the other team isn’t expecting it and another to bunt successfully when the pitcher and defense know you are going to bunt and do their best to stop you.

Jackson has one successful sacrifice bunt in his major league career. That was in 2024. The last time he had a sacrifice bunt in the minors was in 2016.
