I would trade Bell and move Larnach to DH against RH pitching. Opening up an OF spot for one of the many waiting AAA guys. Also opens up DH days against LH pitching. 

Royce Lewis can be traded. Change of scenery IMO. Trading for a quality 1B at the deadline is usually fairly simple. 

Im trading Caratini and keeping Jeffers. The drop-off from Jeffers to Caratini is immense. Alex Jackson is a nice backup. Giving Jeffers the QO in the likely event we cant extend him. 

Austin Martin is available.  

Buxton stays in CF. Keaschall keeps an OF spot. Lee stays at 3B. Kriedler/Culpepper at SS. Clemens at 2B. Trade for 1B. Jeffers at C

Obviously need pitching help. There are a few trades that can be made to help the team now and clear roster spots for some AAA guys. 

I dont like the idea of selling low on Royce who is controllable for 2.5 years. Then trading for another 1B.

He had a change of scenery and that was with St. Paul.

I believe he's reached base in like 35 of the 37 or 38 games hes played in since coming back. He's finally showing real consistency which I'd take over his random surges and then going cold for weeks.

Hancock Brazoban and Arraez would be my targets.   Reasonable value for all of them 

I personally would trade Lewis,  then prospects to even it off.   That shouldn't be anything that would drastically hurt the farm system.   

I personally think this team would be better with Arraez at 2nd and Clemens at 1st.   Arraez would bring a lot more professional at bats to the team.  He shouldn't be drastically expensive and Lewis is someone I don't just trust on the line or in the system anymore.

They have the prospects and the roster holes to make moves. They have opportunity to reach the post-season at the major league level that makes it a good idea to make moves. They have an org-wide positional imbalance that makes it a good idea to make moves.

None of this says anything about the nature of the moves, but Can We and Should We are both pretty obviously a Yes. 

I'd say Yes to anyone controllable, No to any expiring contracts, Yes to more middle infield prospect depth, Yes to arms, No to MLB corner OF, and so on, nothing fancy.  In terms of names, that's Hancock or Detmers or some other starter (with years of control left), it could be a real 1B thumper, maybe a 2B that replaces what we thought we had in Keaschall, and obviously all the bullpen arms you can find.

As far as im aware, his defense has always been good. It was the bat. If his bat keeps up like it has been so far, I could see him as a starter.

I dont like selling low either but hes just not getting it done. His OPS the last 30 games is only .671. Not anywhere near good enough for 1B. 

People all over this site had a huge issue with Clemens when he was starting at 1B but his numbers showed defense near GG levels and his OPS has been flirting with .800 most of the year.

I think this would be a more debatable decision if the twins were buyers where I do think they have lots of guys in the minors that could get a decent player, but with the potential this season is heading in it would raise other questions. Lots of teams like the idea of near major league level talent and a large amount of the twins' top prospects are in high minors, so they have lots of guys that in theory would be contributing within the next year or two. In a buyer's market, I'd say that's a very useful thing to be willing to part with if they were.

And on the other hand, with the positions those players play, you could also justifiably pivot to selling the major league players in those positions if you envision those guys coming up within the next year. You also have the obvious elephant in the room of the multiple catching prospects joining and rising in the system, so in a seller's market, it almost seems like a no brainer that someone like Jeffers could be worth trading. So like it has kind of looked like heading into the all star break, I think they are in a spot where they could realistically work in either direction and it really just comes down to how the team itself realistically views the remainder of the season going, and a week ago it didn't look as obvious which way it could go, but I'd rather they commit one way or the other sooner before fans get too shaky watching them float around .500 for the next week

Twins have three prospect hitters and only one sure thing (Jenkins).  Along with Quick, that's the farm system.
