Zak Kent, Luis Garcia, Justin Lawrence, and now Austin Voth.  All with fewer than 10 IP for the Twins this year, all no longer with the organization*

Their combined line: 22.1 IP, 29 ER, 18K, 19BB, 8HR, 11.69 ERA

That's the problem with thinking you can build a bullpen through the waiver wire: for every Yoendrys Gomez you unearth, there's like four or five (maybe more) of these guys.  And it's not even July - this list is almost certainly going to get longer/more depressing as the season goes on.

*Lawrence and Voth I guess aren't technically gone from the org, yet, but for all practical purposes they are

Yeah, a pitching prospect under the age of 27 in St Paul couldn't do better than that combined stat line? Hopefully Raya does well and we can move on with actually building something for the future.

You were in the same camp as me last winter. I shook my head at the narrative of bullpens being the easiest thing to rebuild in baseball. A team is lucky to find 2 building blocks in a given season. Last year's bullpen before the fire sale was the result of 4 years building up the back end of that pen.

So they literally decided to punt yesterday. Sigh.

I am not sure what they would have done differently. The Ryan injury was unexpected. Rojas had only one rehab appearance and wasn’t stretched out. They needed to bring up a pitcher who could throw some length that was also rested. How many choices did they have? Who would you have used instead of Voth?

April was a rough month for Raya. 12 strikeouts and 10 walks. Since then he has been very good with 24 strikeouts and 2 walks. His last walk was May 15.
