Per Bobby N:

Re: Kody Clemens starting in center field tonight.

Derek Shelton said OF coach Grady Sizemore felt strongly that Clemens could handle it. Byron Buxton is dealing with a shoulder issue, along with his sore hip, and Shelton wants Austin Martin to stay in right field.

Is one of Jenkins, E-Rod, or Roden close to coming off of the IL?  Seems early to shift away from a position if you're clearing for someone else.

I think Clemens is in CF because they want LH bats in the lineup and they want to entrench Martin in RF. This is the latest in roster shuffling to improve the defense for the season. Martin is the everyday RF going forward and they want him to log some innings there while Larnach plays LF. IF, and its a big IF, Wallner comes back he's a DH only. Buck is the regular CF and they're seeing if Clemens can be a backup there in addition to Kreidler.

I expect the next few weeks to play out with Lewis eventually back and Gray gone, Arcia and Kreidler at SS with Kreidler and Clemens the backup CF. IF they come back, Lewis is a DH/1B, Wallner is a DH. Outman goes when either GG or Culpepper is ready to come up. Bell is traded to create ABs for Lewis and/or Wallner if they show they deserve them.

Makes sense! And with it being such a long stretch of games, I can understand wanting to give them a few days off the field to recharge. Can't have every guy play everyday on a 17 game stretch.

I'm surprised Pawol is here too.. but I guess she's with a different crew as a fill in.

You are making two very big assumptions, first is Lewis at 1B, everybody on here wants that move but the Twins have yet to signal anything that it's going to happen.

The other is that Bell will be traded, they will have to DFA him if they want to clear a roster spot.  Last year Washington could find no one to take him at the trade deadline and there wasn't a lot of interest in the offseason.  Other than a couple of good stretches this season, he has not done anything to improve his value.

Jen Pawol is behind the plate again!

Just glad she’s not at 1st or 3rd because I feel like her swing vs no swing calls have gone strongly against the Twins recently

That was fast fastball turns out to be the preferred tool early for Sandlin.

Prefer to have her in a place where we have some control over the challenges

I believe her Umpire Scorecard from Boston was slightly below average, but not close to CB Bucknor level.

Yes this appears to be the case and Martin has made some good plays (including throws) in RF recently, However, he does have a below average arm for RF
