Houston was clinging to a division lead when Valdez coughed up that GS and then drilled (it was not a cross up) his catcher with a 93 mph sinker. Salazar (the catcher) is a AAAA player trying to hang onto as much MLB time as he can get, so he of course had to eat it and nod along with whatever "explanation," came out afterwards.

Assuming they can afford him and he's willing to do a one year deal with MN (I think there's a near zero chance here) is Valdez really a guy you want on the roster? Yeah, this team is likely to suck with or without him, and you could theoretically flip him at the deadline, but as an actual fan of the Twins I'm on board with passing on Valdez.

Did anyone actually waste their time reading the article? Even if they had money to spend the needs of the team is the bullpen (like 3-4 quality arms) and a backup shortstop.

Why would they sign him?   If they were to spend that kind of money spend it on signing Ryan.   Signing Valdez would only lead to discontent on the team,  makes no sense at all.  Let's see what it does to the Tigers.  They  have the money to spend on him.  But they can't come up with the money to sign their own 2 time Cy Young award winner.  That is sure to have clubhouse and fan base implications.  I sure am glad you are not the GM.

Well that just made the Tigers the front runners by far in the AL Central.  To me it seemed like, besides Skubal, their starting pitching was a little bit hit or miss.  Flaherty and Mise kinda remind me of a Baily Ober.  They can be tough but seem to be up and down at times.  Now with Skubal and Valdez leading the way they probably walk away with the Central.

The only way I see this being possible is if they were planning to trade Lopez... otherwise how did they make a realistic bid on him?
