Bengals release Germaine Pratt. Pratt would look really good in purple, IMHO. Like Cashman, he's a solid coverage LB. He's probably a bit better than Pace but, in any event, would really give depth to the LB room, which is a bit thin after Cashman and Pace.

I would have been interested in Pratt. Another good cover ILB is needed. Some pretty old guys left like Eric Kendricks and CJ Mosley, but not sure if they can still play both run and pass. They might still have some juice left.

Dolphins looking to tank in 2025?

I don't know if they're looking to tank, but they might be looking for tight ends on Craigslist.

I just read a description of their TE room as "two blocking tight ends and three UDFAs"

I like the deal better for Miami than Pitt.  Minkah can still play and I'm not sure Ramsey can.

Correct. I can’t believe they got Fitzpatrick back in the deal. He’s 2 years younger than Ramsey and making $9 million less than him.

Miami’s offseason as a whole has been very confusing… like they’re prepared to lose 10+ games. They’ve lost almost all of their captains from last year. OL stinks and Tyreek is still upset about the situation there. Mike McDaniel’s chill guy attitude seems to be wearing thin there

But I'd want A LOT more for Ramsey than that.

I don't think Ramsey had that much value, there was talk he could be cut due to lack of interest. Getting a quality starting safety in his prime is nice, but they also had to move Jonnu Smith who was their second best receiving weapon last year. The Steelers liked him enough to give him a 1/$12M extension right after the trade - apparently Miami didn't want to extend him so that's why they shipped him off.

Ironically it was the Dolphins trading away Minkah Fitzpatrick that signaled their dedication to the tank, getting a 1st for him... only a year after taking him in the 1st round.

It's pretty bad, but McDaniel has had a tendency to not utilize his TEs at times. In 2023 their starting TE was a blocking-only TE in Durham Smythe, and they went into 2024 with only Jonnu Smith ahead of him - which before his surprising offensive explosion looked like another year of them waving the white flag on the position.

If we’re interested, Tyreek Hill did grow up as a Vikings fan… It would be a lot of fun to go full 1998 on this offense and watch McCarthy sling it to JJ, Tyreek, Addison, and Hockenson. Good luck to everyone in the league stopping that

Apparently the Dolphins talked Darren Waller out of retirement to be their starting TE, so they're sending a conditional 7th rounder to the Giants for his rights. Definitely not what I was expecting them to do...

I'm sure Cousins will get roasted for his quotes and this article but I really thought this was a very honest statement about how players look at injuries/playing time/contracts.

"The information I had at the time, I made the best decision," Cousins said. "You also know that if you sit down Week 10 and take two or three weeks or more to let it heal, you may never get your job back. I remember reading Drew Brees' book back in 2010 when he first wrote it, how he made the point that he tried to never let his backup see the field -- even if it was somebody who was really no threat. He just felt like you should never do that. Doug Flutie taught him that.

"So that was something I always was aware of, that in this league, if you give someone else the chance, if you want to get 'Wally Pipped' and there's Lou Gehrig behind you, that can happen at the time.""

He's fully entitled to do it, but Cousins has always chased the money.

As any sane person would.

For a lot of his career I get it, but that last decision?  That's where I hesitate if I'm Kirk.  He's already been paid enough to keep multiple generations of his family rich, he'll likely get a rich broadcasting career when he's done, but the thing he doesn't have is a legacy of winning.

I think I take a smaller chunk of cash to try and win in Minnesota than chase a few more million for the pile on a garbage Atlanta team.  At some point, my legacy and my ability to win a Super Bowl would matter more to me.

(I would not have this take if I was someone who didn't make that much money in my career.  Someone like Dalvin Cook for instance.)

I agree. However, I suspect that there is a major athlete ego that most QBs have where they think, "I can turn this team around and win." I'm not sure how much they see bigger picture than that, if that makes sense.

Kirk definitely thought he had another 2-3 good years left as a starter in the NFL so he chased the largest bonus like he’s done for the last 10 years. Can’t say I feel sorry for him at all. He made his bed and now he’s gotta lie in it until his contract is more manageable to cut.

Meanwhile, the Vikings are able to put one of the best rosters on paper in the past 15 years. So thanks Kirk! Never change my man.

Same. Love everything about it, but it really sucks how sleazy of an organization they are behind closed doors.

Yeah, obviously this has always been how the wealthy operated; they break every rule they can because their only priority is to get as much money as possible. To me, the crazy part about the NFL and other billionaires these days is that they make such little effort to hide the fact that they break the rules. They don't hide anything, they just lie about it and everyone is supposed to take their word at face value.

Wow. Chiefs pay Trey Smith. 4/94 with 70m guaranteed. The Fries deal actually looks better now, IMHO. Interior lineman are finally getting paid.

Good linemen are hard to find and teams are recognizing the need to have them to go up against the freaks of nature we're employing along the defensive line.
