Popkins Hired by the Blue Jays

Toronto has hired David Popkins as their hitting coach. I'm sort of surprised that he would find a job this soon.

You’re surprised that the hitting coach for the team that led the league in pulled fly balls and line drives found a job quickly?

Yes hitting fell off down the stretch, sacrifices to Jobu had to be made.

Honestly, I think Popkins was fine as the hitting coach. The team floundered down the stretch, which probably necessitated some coaching changes.

Correct. The fact that Correa missed 2+ months, Buxton missed a month, and Kepler missed a month. And losing Joe Ryan was arguably the biggest loss. The hitters certainly struggled. Doesn't mean the hitting coach is a bad hitting coach.

Sometimes the same message (or messenger) gets tuned out after long enough.  Three years might qualify as a good run.  Batting coaches are fungible; doesn't mean they are worthless.

Too much boom or bust from the line-up. When they were 'on', they scored in bunches. When they weren't, the slumps became prolonged and affected the entire line-up.

All of the above comments makes sense. You certainly can't blame ALL of the hitting woes on the coach. Nevertheless, I'm also surprised that Popkins was snapped up and hired so quickly after getting the boot from the Twins. But hey, good luck to him in Toronto.
