The article uses the heft of Gleeman's article comparing team spending to the Dome days, but this is a good question Strack posits:

Quote

"

Why not just take your $2-3 billion, and exit the baseball ownership business  ...........  Complete the sale. Bring in an owner who cares.  Pass them off to someone willing to run the organization like it’s a multi-billion professional sports organization, not like a 1985 family-run business with an uncertain financial future."

Can't say I disagree

Sure, but what happens when you swap out an owner that has 2-3B in equity for one that has zero equity?

This is Minnesota, not New York, this team is more likely to get a Derek Jeter type ownership group than a Steve Cohen.

The Pohlad's either need to just bit the bullet and pony up to make the team better, or figure out how to become competent enough at marketing and televising their product to increase their profits. I don't think people understand that it's possible to make the situation worse with a new owner. Sure, we can risk it, but it's a real and serious risk. John Fisher? John Nutting? These kinds of owners are very real and very possible.

Agreed, except Twins are stuck with Dave St Peter as he's the business side, marketing and in charge of media rights. We could really use an update on in-game marketing ideas and sponsorships,  media rights, newer vision for generating ticket sales in the stadium. I don't know if we have had a few good marketing campaigns since get to know em marketing days. This team needs a boost and to stop annoying or brushing  off the fans. How about trying to work with Saints marketing team or even a Mike Veck. I'm not talkkng Savannah Bannanas silly-ness but Twins need to bring back some fun and atmosphere to Twins games and Target Field.  2024 was boring and a grind, in stadium that is for sure with exception of a really good green day concert, the other concerts were kind of meh.  Royals and Tigers had some fun in game promotions, with Mascot, and in stadium announcer. Twins just have TC wandering around ocassionally claps, or a tshirt cannon. One thing I liked was the stand up make some noise if you from Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Royals fans.  I mean you can't do that every game but you can on a Big weekend series. They have kids race against hologram of Bobby Witt. Tigers have some interesting in stadium segments too. Twins should scout out what the competition is doing on game days. If works well borrow it. Target Field could use a good spot cleaning, some paint and touching up of bathroom doors, steps Safety anti slip tape upgraded. A refresh of the club area to improve traffic flow, maybe some change of the artwork tables and chairs. You gotta keep things modern looking and not dumpy run down like the Metrodome. People will sooner spend more if they like the entertainment , food and beverage options, and the facility appearance matters. TF starting to show some heavy wear and tare. That dock seating area needs to be more interactive. The Truly area is nice.  The club area needs some improve viewing displays as do lower deck concourses. People get bored with the same old stuff every year. Twins have been in a bit of rut since 2019.

I don't remember who but someone much smarter than me once said. "When the God's wish to punish us... they answer our prayers". I think it was Olivia Wilde or Gene Wilder who said it.

Charles Nelson Reilly who we all know as the actor who play Gary Burghoff on the Series M.A.S.H once said. "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know". Charles Nelson Reilly has the ability to know a helicopter is coming before it even takes off and he is from Iowa so I would certainly listen to him.

Can we fact check here?  You're thinking of Radar O'Reilly played by Gary Burghoff on M.A.S.H.

THIS IS Charles Nelson Reilly.

For the other quote Brian was also thinking of either Oscar Mayer or Oscar the Grouch, both of which belong in a garbage can.

Oscar Madison!!! He's the one with the quote, he had a lot of witty sayings as a sportswriter for the New York Herald.

He was a reported slob. Which is just another social media rumor spread by people who are cruel, judgmental and quick to label others.

I'm not sure where I came up with that Gene Wilder stuff.

Can you please fact check. That's Brett Somers in a photo taken mere seconds before she passed out because she didn't think of Tiny Tom Tinkle!

She is famous because she was the ex-wife of Oscar Madison.

I don't know who the guy with the Pipe is but he seems to have the same color fashion sense that I have. His name is clearly Charles and his Green and Red lights seem to be not working.

I didn't read the article nor the comments, but, I think I remember during the dome days that the Twins were often in the bottom 5 or so of payroll.  I remember them signing Kirby to what was at the time one of the richest contracts in baseball.  But other than that, they also have Mauer.  But right now they have a few guys making good money.  Buck, Carlos, Pablo I believe so I mean that wasn't normal in the dome days to have multiple well paid guys, not that I remember anyway.

Based on the 2024 payroll numbers, and inflation in general, but MLB in particular, yes, they probably were at a lower comparable payroll than when in the Dome.

Simply not going to get in to another arguement about ownership...there's enough of that already...what's so damn frustrating is that I have previously argued against the "ownership is cheap" arguements because I saw moves, and some big signings, and extensions, and a year by year growing payroll the previous seasons before this one.

But even though I believe, and have believed and stated previously, that I think MLB is in for some major changes going forward. A recent OP used the word "reckoning" I believe.

But nobody saw or expected changes before 2024 happened? They did as hoped and kept growing the payroll, at least somewhat year to year before. And that's what I find so frustrating and disappointing.
