Maybe it’s the 937 OPS against and 5.63 ERA in his last 8 appearances?

Or it could be his 617 SLG against in his last 20 appearances?

The 8 HRs allowed over his last 20 innings?

Or it could be because his arm is tired and he has options?

It sure is a head-scratcher, though.

Larnach, Martin, and Miranda started in the minors....so I'm not sure how they planned to depend on them. Farmer is clearly a backup, not someone they were counting on depending on.

My point, that you responded to, was the college players are going to be in their mid 20s before they play in the majors nearly every single time, so saying that those guys rarely work out isn't about premiering in their mid 20s, but that most minor leaguers don't work out.

Well if any FO isn't counting on the their top guys in the minors then they should be fired. But that isn't the point. It isn't even the point about Twins and their players, it is about the expectations of what players will become is greatly dependent on their age (excluding catchers and relief pitchers) when they debut.

But you are correct there a the certain few that don't enter college until 19 get drafted at 22 and stupid covid, but if they are knocking on the down of the majors within 2 years like Judge for example they probably aren't going to be that difference maker.

The Twins have a whole bunch of guys that are good to better but they all have flaws and that is why they took the time in the minors they did and having too many of them at one time is why you see what you see with the Twins offense. Everyone of them is a deserving of being a major league player without of doubt and when a few of them get going everything looks fine until it isn't, and I get the injuries to Lewis/CC/Buxton caused most of this, but again my statement wasn't about the Twins and their roster building it was just about fans setting expectations

Alcalá hasn't been good lately with the exception of his two innings with a big lead on Sunday. I have been skeptical of his overall value, but the stuff is very good, so he is tough to give up on. He's shown enough that I'm sure the Twins will exercise Jorge's option for next year at a team-friendly price.

In this playoff run, with the starters frequently being pulled early, the Twins need innings that Alcalá recently hasn't been able to provide. I suspect that he'll be recalled earlier than the ten-day limit as someone will be placed on the IL and a rested Alcalá will be recalled.

Hell on? I don’t get it?

You will, if Brooks Lee ever gets his batting average up to .337

I don't even understand what's being discussed in this thread about Alcala being demoted at this point. Wallner, prospect development in general, college draft picks, "leetspeak" references.

Is Alcala better than one or more of the 9 bullpen options we have? A bullpen which apparently includes a primary starter, who has better splits starting than in relief, who is now apparently a reincarnated example of the once extinct LOOGY.

Is this service time related? Alcala came into the season with 4 years and 14 days of service time due to all the time he's spent on the MLB injured list. Keeping him in the minors more than 14 days should add another year of team control.
