Solano's career wRC+ is 97 against LHP and RH pitching.   They have several LH hitters with significant splits.  So, I think if they pick-up a RH bench bat it will be someone that is stronger against LHP especially the way Rocco likes to play matchups.   This need would be even greater if they trade farmer.

The problem with Solano (and Arraez) as first basemen is height and reach, which I think is hard to measure, but definitely a factor. Solano had some (negative) moments at first, but to me the biggest thing working against him is he’s 5’8” and right handed.

Call someone that wants a cheap bat that can DH & play 3 other spots if needed……mix with another guy & make a trade.

Sign him so we can trade him? Didn't we already do that with Farmer & Gordon?

Serious question

The problem with bringing in a low-cost free agent is occupying a roster spot. He couldn’t be sent to the minors and would have to be DFAed if there is no role for him.

Yes; 1yr/$5m seems reasonable, if you can get him for cheaper that would be great. Julien needs a consistent platoon option, and while Kirilloff/Miranda are most likely our first base platoon for 2024, Kirilloff might start the season injured and Miranda is a wild card with how bad of a year he had in 2023. Solano fills a 2B/1B hole while bringing a veteran presence and a contact-first bat to a power-hitting lineup. He fits in with next year’s plans and could be a great depth piece.

I think the Twins should call him back. Now I know tha he can play 1 more position (being 2nd base), I think the Twins would benefit from him. Plus, his team chemisty and teamwork is already there.

That was my thought too. It's a tough call. Solano ended up being a valuable player for the Twins last year, at least in his limited but versatile role. The guy can hit! But, as the original post noted, the Twins don't seem to have as big a need for his services this year than last. But also, as Tony&Rodney just posted, it's still relatively early (did I just say that?!) in the off season and depending on trades and players added and/or moved, the Twins might feel the need to sign him up again. Heck, last year he wasn't signed until the start of spring training, if I remember correctly, so he could still end up with the Twins again. And as much as I want to see the young prospects getting playing time, I also value Solano's experience.

Dis we really need Solano  last year  , if it wasn't for his first base experience from previous seasons , I don't think the Twins would have went and got him ...

He did a solid job for the Twins  , we really didn't need him last year and maybe this year either , but I would take his bat again in the lineup ...
