Jake Meyers in CF?

I like Jake Meyers. Very good defender with offensive upside. Still relatively young, coming off injury, and buried by depth on the Astros. He is cheap and controllable, and would be a great CF option for us. Worst case he is a back up CF/4th outfielder.

I think the Astros might seek out relief pitching in return—MLB ready paired with a prospect? Maybe Alcala and SWR?

What would be a fair trade?

Sorry, but no thanks.  We are long 27 year oldish types who haven’t really made it, strike out a lot, and have injury histories (Miranda, Larnach, Kiriloff, Gordon, etc.). Sure his glove is probably an upgrade over our other current rostered CF options (Martin, Castro. Gordon) except Buxton (dreaming),  but his bat surely is not. Why give the Astros a couple of promising arms for that?  Not a fan of that deal.

For the right price, adding Meyers makes sense. Low salary, excellent defense and some hope of being okay offensively.

When you mentioned Astros & CF. My ears perked up because I love the way HOU develop their hitters & a true CFer could help out. But his SOs is probably why they want to unload him & why MN would be interested. He could become another MAT. The only RP that is close to Myers is Moran. & that would be an overpay for MN if they are motivated maybe a Winder which they would overpay more. Because of the fact that they've mentioned that Myers is available & MN is a possible trade partner seems like to me that HOU has someone in mind from MN.

I wouldn't mind either way because of the glove but I think we could squeeze by with Castro, Gordon, & Martin until Buxton is ready. But if we get another '23 Buxton we better get a Myers & figure out the mess later. 

PS- paying for someone to take away our truly top defensive catcher doesn't make sense to me.

I don’t think they need to give up a prospect. I think a parallel trade of players that have had chances in the majors without significant success will be sufficient. Moran doesn’t feel like an overpay nor does Alcala feel like too little. Larnach, Miranda, Gordon, Balazovic also fit as similarly aged players that have shown glimpses of their upside. The view of these players and their potential will really vary by team but one might fit the Astros.

edit: Moran will miss 2024 to Tommy John surgery. The Twins have nontendered him and hope to sign him to a two year minor league free agent contract.

I don't think Meyers raises the ceiling for the Twins at all, so I wouldn't give up anything of any value for him. If they just want to dump him for a system reliever I'll take him, but he's just another guy as far as I'm concerned so I don't think there's any reason to try too hard to go get him.
