It was announced Berrios will be game 2 starter against Gray.  Personally, I think that works out well for Twins.  Berrios is not a lights out starter, most of the time.  He can be, we have seen this, but he walks 2.5 per nine, strikes out only 8.8 per nine, for a ratio of 3.5 about.  He will generally throw a lot of pitches, and we have some guys willing to work count.  Also, Berrios gives up a lot of HR 1.2 per 9.  He is normally that will give up runs in bunches when he does.  He has been known to get big for big games, which could be concern, but I think our general approach should fare well.

Gray on the other hand keeps the ball in the park. His k's and walks are about same as Berrios, but being he does not give up that many HR, that works in our favor.  However, I do not expect the team to allow Gray to go more than 2 trips through with having full pen available. Gray may hate it, but he just does not do as well 3rd time through. Here is to hoping he has 5 to 6 good innings and leaves with a lead, something that has not happened much for him because we do not score runs for him.  Lets change that now.

This is a tough one for me Berrios is my favorite player so I want him to do well.  Hope he can get through 7 and the bullpen loses the game.

There's no doubt that pitching is the most important of the four aspects of playing baseball. And it's pitching that is probably the biggest reason that it is difficult to predict the outcome of an individual game because just one pitcher having a really good day or a really bad day is often the determining factor. There's no way to predict, but between the two starters I think Gray is more likely than Berrios to have a good day and I think Berrios is more likely than Gray to have a bad day. I always wanted Berrios to do well when he was a Twin. He has talent and he works hard. But, and I don't know quite how to put it, he doesn't seem to have the ability to get the most out of himself when it's important to do that. He's the type that if his team scores him five runs he turns around and gives up four.

For some reason, I never really was a fan of Berrios when he was here. Obviously, I wanted him to do well when he pitched for us, but I just couldn't get on the band-wagon. There was just something about him that I didn't care for, or trust. I don't wish him any personal ill will, but I hope we rock his world today and he's out of the game early. I want to see the Twins bats unload today.

Liked Berrios as a Twin. Will always remember him as a Twin, fondly. Like him as a Blue Jay, and if he's pitching against the Yankees or Royals or Mariners or something, I hope he does well.

He's a Blue Jay now. Pitching against Minnesota and the Twins have the ability to move to the next round with a victory.  There's nothing I'd like to see more than the Twins to light him up for 5 runs in the first and chase him by the 3rd and get the Jays into scramble mode.

I'll then be happy to resume rooting for Berrios in 2024.

ON the way up, Berrios was a huge gate attraction in Rochester. People stayed in their seats while he was pitching. Biggest issue with him was when the other guys started to get to him, he crumbled quickly. Like flipping a switch, he went from unhittable to batting practice pitcher.

Still, I worry that he might toss one of his real good games today. Don't want this series to go to a game 3. Get the Jays out and move on.
